Get a proper bike bag, hard to keep it under the weight limit depending on the ride, but oh so easy, 5 mins and you are riding! Pool noodles are a cheap light hack to add in to protect forks etc as well.
@@bestdayevermtb2 I keep the pedals accessible for sacrificial removal......it doesn't get me under weight removing them, but so far (fingers crossed), it gets me close enough the check in staff sneak it through!
It is not legal and they might remove it for you permanently, it happened to me with a 10000mAh powerbank. You can hide all you want, they are looking with x-ray
And, believe it or not, it survived the trip to Queenstown and back despite having all the other luggage (including my bike) in the shuttle bus piled on top of it.
I just bought a flight that gives you two bags. Also good in covid times as can get refund if I don't fly. Saying that in QUEENSTOWN now riding bike no issues.
@@bestdayevermtb2 I just checked the pedals and they can be removed by allen keys indeed!!! Brilliant. I didn't know that . Thanks a lot, and thanks again for posting this video. It's very practical since you literally showed the whole process. I just ride bikes but don't know much about bikes...
I actually used the same box for a large full sus e bike last week. Some boxes are designed for the rear wheel to be left in and are obviously a lot longer. This works well for me.
love this! very compact. I hope I can bring my bike in NZ.
Glad it was helpful
@@bestdayevermtb2 For sure. excited to bring my bike in NZ next year.
Well done Lance. Very informative. Always nice to have a mid week special(ized box)…
Thanks a lot Lance. That really helps for ametures like me.
Can already tell you will send dream track for 7,000 subs 😁
Yeah nah. Went up there yesterday but not doing that.

I have looked at bike bags many times. They seem to weight about 8.5 kg. That will make me overweight.

great tips!
Lets go baby! Clothes and everything else can stay home but the bikes gotta come with! Period. Its a non-negotiable!
excellent explanation
Congrats on 7k subs u made it a long way can’t wait for 10k u gonna do a 7k special 👍👍👍🥳🥳🥳
Will do something at 10 000. Shouldn't take more than 10 years to get there.
Haha yea thanks lance
Great one, am planning to take my bike but hustle is to find a box bigger enough
Nice video as usual mate. Can you do one with an ebike showing how you conceal that battery in there somewhere so none notices it 🤪
Would loved to have packed the ebike.
Take the battery on your carryon….
@@petedavies408 I wish. Sadly you can't do that.

That is why I pack it well. Box on its side with suit cases stacked on top of it. No damage done.
Haha everything was booked for me to go to queenstown today (10/3) (from Auckland) but I ended up catching covid yesterday! So the trip was postponed
Bugger. That is what I was worried about. We all got here covid free. Hope you feel OK.
Congrats for 7000 subs!!!
Thanks for that. 10 000 sounds even better.
Hey lance, great video as usual sir - could you tell me what your final weight of the bike/box etc was ?
Ended up with 22kg. Could have put my helmet in as well.
make sure to go to coronet peak aswell!
and of course skyline
Doing that Friday.
Doing that as well.
Shuttles on Rude Rock as well!
How about packing the blanket as well, or are you going to use Zacs sleeping bag to put your bike on to reassemble
Did have to take sheets and towels but I don't travel with blankie anymore 😅
I was wondering after you arrived. In your trip. Where do you store your bike box. So you can reused it again on the way fly back.
In Whistler and Queenstown I just kept the box in my accommodation. I must admit in Europe I had to keep the box in a van we hired.
When are you down here mate?
We are in Queenstown now. Rode Glendhu today and Cardrona tomorrow.
Is the bike just registered as a drop in bag? or do you have to pay extra?
I just bought a flight that gives you two bags. Also good in covid times as can get refund if I don't fly. Saying that in QUEENSTOWN now riding bike no issues.
What’s the dimension of the box mate?
What is the dimension of the box?
Need to start growing your hipster beard so you don’t look out of place with your fixxie
May I ask what multi-tool that you're using? Thanks.
To be honest I can't remember which one I used in this video.
@@bestdayevermtb2 That's all good. Thanks anyway. I've noticed most of the multi-tools don't have pedal wrench, that's why I'm asking.
@jackluo219 neither did mine. Used the Allen key instead. Need to make sure they have grease on the thread.

@@jackluo219 I actually took a pedal spanner in my hand luggage on my last trip and security took it off me.
That box looks extremely short for a full-size full suspension mountain bike! But if you can make it work, that’s awesome!

what is the dimension of the box?
This box is 1350x350x900. Boxes to vary a lot.
