I'm glad moondorp also realized that the round shape is difficult to carry.
A much anticipated change in the form factor, add a lot of convenience when carrying. It's amazing how USB DACs has improved over the years.
Thanks for the review. I've just lost my DAC amp and My IEM's just don't sound as good. These are something I loose or break more often than I like. Obviously due to this
I'm not going to spend a lot and this has grabbed my attention. I'm 99% sold on this.
I already own and love the Tanchjim Space but if I were to buy a dongle DAC today for my IEMs use exclusively it would be the Dawn Pro for sure.
Thanks, clear review. I'm new in this hobby,my new cheap dac/amp.
Thanks Dave, I picked one up last week to use for IEMs. Super little device, no issues with power output. Sounds great!!!
Glad to hear it! Thanks for watching!
Does it work with mic? I have a hd560s and replaced the cable with a boom mic so i was wondering if it works like the apple dongle does.
@@scooter-wp6fhDid you found this information?
The Dawn Pro caught my attention last month when I first saw it. I should have purchased it then, I will be ordering it now! Thanks Dave, Great Review!!! 👍👍👍
Nice! I Thanks for checking out the review!
Ordered mine! Thanks for the excellent review
How was it, any update❤
@@Supun-zn4kkits great for the price. Small and compact. Sound is super clean. Tested with kinera celest phoenixcall and truthear hexa.
I was in the market for a small portable DAC that I can carry with me (still new to audio stuff) - this is perfect. Thanks for the review I'll get myself one to pair with my blessing 3s
How do you like the pairing?
@radiofreealbemuth cancelled my order because shenzeng audio were being douchebags and sold me the item then 3 weeks later told me they were out of stock (AFTER collecting my money)
I bought a soundblaster g6 instead
Nice review, mine just came today.. too bad its cable is a bit weird, cant make it stay straight. Outside that zero problems and great volume/sound for iems at least.
Been waiting for this review! Thank you!
You helped me make my decision. This will be my first DAC!
Hey, what do you think about it? It worth?
Just bought this and waiting for it to deliver 👍👍
Blind bought this, and I'm glad it was as good as it is. Thanks for the review!
Hi I never had dac so I want to ask why people buy this? Will the sound change or something? The sound is better?
@@f_society9151 Hello! Well, it doesn't make bad equipment sound "better," but it definitely scales the function of our equipment better. Think of the DAC as your graphics card for a laptop. Most graphics cards work fine for most uses, but when you play heavy games, which in the audio world is like high quality music files, a the regular graphic card can play it, but it loses out on showing the nicest and most detailed qualities of the game. So, this is what the dongle does, it sort of allows for more of the music to be pumped out for a lower volume setting, and that in turn makes it sound better because you get more details and just a generally better feel of the equipment you're listening on.
@@f_society9151no. All dacs do the same thing. Transform audio from digital to analog. Hearing a difference between them is just placebo. They're good if you want more volume than your phone's headphone jack, or if you want balanced audio if you have interference.
@@f_society9151 Improved Sound Quality: Phones typically have a basic DAC and amplifier that prioritize efficiency and cost over ultimate sound quality. A dedicated DAC and amplifier will generally have better quality components that provide a cleaner, more accurate conversion of digital audio to analog. This results in clearer, more detailed sound with better dynamics.
Higher Power Output: A dedicated headphone amplifier can provide more power than a typical smartphone. This is particularly important for headphones that are harder to drive, though less critical for efficient IEMs like the Blessing 3. Nonetheless, even for easier-to-drive IEMs, the extra power ensures that you can listen at any volume without distortion.
Reduced Noise and Interference: Smartphones can introduce electrical noise from other internal components like the CPU and wireless signals. A dedicated DAC and amplifier are designed to minimize such interference, thus offering a cleaner signal path and reducing background noise.
Better Handling of High-Resolution Audio: While some smartphones support high-resolution audio, dedicated DACs are often designed to handle a wide range of audio formats and resolutions with better fidelity. They can decode higher resolution files natively, ensuring you get the most out of your high-resolution audio tracks.
Enhanced Volume and Gain Control: Dedicated headphone amplifiers offer more precise volume control and multiple gain settings, allowing you to fine-tune the listening level and dynamics according to your preferences and the specific needs of your headphones.
Improved Stereo Imaging and Soundstage: A high-quality amplifier can improve the separation between channels and enhance the soundstage, making the audio feel more spacious and immersive. This is particularly noticeable in well-recorded music where instrument placement and spatial cues are key.
Hope you guys can get your hands on the Fiio KA13 as well. Same DAC chip I think, but they added an Amp to the mix which increases the power considerably. Only about $20-30 more depending on your location. Pretty crazy value!
I have the ka13, it's really good
Thanks for another great review! How does this compare with the macbook pro's headphone jack for iems?
Been waiting for this to come out 😅
Appreciate you watching!
@@Gizaudio I've been considering on getting this or the dc03 pro
I guess I'm gonna get the dawn pro
Having a 4.4 is a nice bonus, and most of my stuff are not that heavy to drive either
Good Review my bro
Thank you!
Great video! Is this the best DAC in it's price?
Great review! Would you say there is any difference in soundstage between Tanchjim Space and Moondrop Dawn pro? I'm starting out and don't know which one to get haha
that room looks so comfy
Glad I didn't order the Space right away after watching one of your earlier UA-cams. 😊
Could you check the Akliam PD4? Its similar, but has a Lo/High gain slider, volume+/- and a button that features as a play/pause/next song.
I actually was listening to this video with the Dawn Pro as part of the chain!
lol, nice! Thanks for watching!

Only ap10 is available around 50$ in my country. One dawn pro user said me it isn't great with bright signature iem . Which one do u prefer around 50$ balanced signature 😅
This is where subjective reviews like this fail. Dawn Pro and Tanchjim Space have the exact same output. The opamp section is included on the 43131 dac chip and all dual 43131 basically output 130 mW into 30 Ohm that use the onboard amp section. So no you did not hear any output difference as none exists. You were hearing ghosts based on reading a description.
I'm quite surprised why so few people review Ibasso dongle products. I have an Ibasso DC04 Pro dan Fiio BTR7. In terms of sound quality, comparing the two, I think the Ibasso DC04 Pro is absolute beast.
I have a dco3 pro and it's fab for iems. Have you tried dco4 pro run your headphones if any?.I am getting hd660S2 in couple is days. Hope ibasso can run it off laptop (M1 Mac Air)
@@Maheshutube The only headphones I have are the ATH-MSR7. It's only 32ohm and has almost never been used. Sorry..

Wondering if these or fiio ka3, im using letshouer s12 pro and hexa on balance mode. Do you have any recommendation between them or is there any better? 🤔🤔
I bought without even single thought when it was available to buy for first time.
How does Dawn pro compare to Jcally AP20 in terms of sound quality?
Do both Dawn Pro and Space drain much of phone battries?
Nice review. What happens if the dust get into those holes?
You can blow it out with compressed air, but the water resistance is next to nothing because of the holes. Not a great decision in my opinion.
I have one being shipped to me. Thanks for the info.
You're welcome! Thanks for checking out the review!
@@Gizaudio I've tried the Moondrop Dawn Pro for a few days now and must say it's a good DAC. And for the price it's an extremely good DAC. I'm very pleased with the purchase.
Daaaaave, I mostly listen to IEMs through the 3.5mm jack. That being said, would you say there is enough difference in bass presence between these two dacs to warrant going for more power from the space?
If not, I’ll totally go for the dawn pro. Thanks 🙏
Hey! Thanks so much for checking out the review. I only have the 4.4 version of the original Dawn, so the only direct comparisons I could do was with the 4.4 outputs. I couldn't find the power output of the 3.5, but usually, it is about half of the balanced power output, which would be around 60 mW. That's more than enough power for almost any IEM.
So you should be safe just getting the Dawn Pro if you mainly listen to IEMs. I can't really hear a difference in bass quality when switching from the 3.5 to 4.4 using IEMs. The only time I noticed a difference was with full-size headphones.
@@Gizaudio thanks Dave. I appreciate the reply and the great reviews.
I don't really like the Dawn Pro compared to my Note 9 internal dac. (Was told Note 9 has the Qualcomm WCD9341 chip) Would you recommend the XDuoo Link V2, Earmen Eagle, or Periodic Audio Rhodium over it?
Trying to find something comparable under $50-$100 to use with my Xenns Mangird Top on my phone and Laptop.
I stands with my prior thoughts, Timmy, please do some DAC hands-on & minireview to share your own opinion on these mini badboys 🧐
can you tell us how to clean iem cables? i cant fix the water clogged inside the earhook cable😅
Do you have a recommendation for a small, cheap inline mic DAC? Or, do I even need one between the Kamira Duo headset mic and my Samsung S24 Ultra?
Would you say the Moonriver 2 Ti is worth upgrading to coming from a Dawn Pro?
I Own Both Dawn and Dawn Pro. The Only Plus is The Extra 3.5mm Connector Which I Can Use For My Unbalanced Set of IEMs!! Rest is Same.
Is there a buzz in the background if paired with sensitive iems?
Can someone suggest a good Dac/Amp upgrade that has balanced output from the Fiio E10K-TC. I'm getting sent a pair of Moondrop Venus headphones and know they have a balanced cable, I really want to see what that's all about but do not have the hardware to support balanced yet. Whats the best hardware to buy?
what is that banger song at the intro?thanks
I'm from Malaysia and I've recently received a Sennheiser 560s as a birthday gift and would be highly grateful if you could advise me whether the Moondrop Dawn Pro can power up the 560s. TQVVM in advance.
Is it able to drive planner iems like dioko with full potential... ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Will this dac play with bright Grado SR80x headphones? Does it need some warmth, especially the high and mid tones?

I was considering taking Fiio Ka3 (I'm ordering my first IEMs and DAC) and saw this straight after seeing your Fiio Ka3 video, would you recommend this simply for the 50% smaller price or does Fiio still offer better performance?
The KA3 does offer a little more power but if you don't need the extra power, I would just get the Dawn Pro. Do you mind me asking what iems or headphones you'll be pairing it with? Thanks for watching!
@@GizaudioHey thanks for the response! I'm getting Moondrop Chu II's, I wanted something budget that is highly praised to try it out before I consider more interesting expensive options. Also looking to get 7hz hero's, Tangzu Wan'er and some crinacle tuned collab IEM's!
Tho I'll hold back with getting a DAC for now as I believe Chu II's don't really need a DAC 😅
can we expect FiiO KA13 review? 1100mW on 4.4 for $80 sounds unreal, even 340mW it does on 3.5 is ludicrous for a portable little thing@@Gizaudio
Enough power to drive Dioko? I'm feeling it wouldn't get the most out of planar IEMs
Hi Dave, this is something completely different. But how well would moonriver 2 ti perform with moondrop variations ? Any thoughts on it?
yes, worth the money esp if found cheap
@@iikatinggangsengii2471 i bought it and yeah it works perfectly with variations. I can really feel the difference from the dawn to moonriver 2 ti. The dawn is more harsh and it can get peaky at time but with moonriver 2 ti it definitely become cleaner and more forward especially in the bass and treble. Tried it with my kiwi ears quartet and i found it to be less recessed in the treble and more rumbly sub bass even more pronounced soundstaging. Without the moonriver 2 ti i can see myself struggling to use my kiwi ears quartet 😂. I think it is a really good DACs.
In the description of shenzhenaudio theres two characteristics, ultra_low background noise and distortion as lowas 0.0001%. can somebody explain what this means, please?
How the original dawn 4.4 compare to the new AFUL SnowyNight ?
Are there clicks during pauses between tracks? I have this problem with dd TC35B.
Any recommendations on portable DAP. I am new to the hobby and looking for a reliable DAP I can take on the go preferably under $500
Shanling M3 Ultra
how is the performancewhen compared to fiio ka13. I want to buy for sennheiser hd599
How does this compare to the Qudelix 5K?
How would this compare to the Fiio KA3?
Anything on the Shio? I'm super curious about it. I'm between this, the Shio, or the Hidizs 9S Pro. Need to be able to drive my HD58X's though as current my hardest to drive Headphones.
They would both drive HD58X fine. To me it sounds identical to the Shio, Dawn Pro has better build though, and independent volume control. Shio you can switch between low and high gain by holding down both keys, with the Dawn Pro you need to use the app to switch gain modes.
@@blorg8206Shio also has independent volume control
@@blorg8206u could switch the gain on the go with the moondrop dawn pro, use the larger volume button and try to feel that it has like 2 different click, u need to hold that button down, sorry im so bad at explaining but u could try it yourself, the led light will flash white color if u succeed to change it
I bought a Shio once. Dead out of the box. Tried everything, plugged into different sources, no indication of life from the unit nor did the sources sense anything attached to them. It was a tiny brick. I threw it in the trash.. 😮💨
I have the HD58X and the S9Pro and they work well together, and that’s on 3.5 mm unbalanced.
Question MOONDROP DAWN do you think it can drive a pair of Dan Clark Aeon Closed RT.
Is the moondrop dawn pro compatible with iPhone? Like despite needing to buy another dongle for it, but will it work? I’m seeing reviews saying it doesn’t work on iPhone but I’m seeing websites saying it can….
How would you rank HIDIZS S3 PRO? Same price as MOONDROP DAWN PRO. No 4,4mm output in Hidizs but it's not necessary for me.
I wonder how is it compared with the BTR5, I saw refurbished units at $55 🤔
The BTR5 is a completely different beast from the Dawn Pro. The BTR5 is basically a BT device that can be used as a wired dac/amp. It has WAY more features than the Dawn, like a LED display, a battery, a mic, NFC, etc. It also puts out double the power from its 2.5mm balances output (240mW), has a dual balanced DAC chipset, a dedicated app, hands-free calling, among other things.
If you want features like this, the BTR5 is a no-brainer. If you want a dac/amp with a sole purpose being just that without all the bells and whistles, the Dawn should be better. I have/have had Fiio dac/amps on the past. I also have the BTR3K that I use when I want BT. Sound-wise, The 3K (through its 2.5mm bal out) has a warm-ish sound that has decent detail and resolution but based on how the Dawn was described, it sounds like it might have better clarity and detail.
@@housepianistthx for this, i am looking for a portable dacamp and this is very helpful. Idk about BT or calls but the best one sound wise for maximum 100 bucks, in the future im going to buy a closed back for travel and commuting (i have an hd599 at home) and the BD dt990pro seems a good choice with the audio technica m50x being my second one
Been waiting for this review cause I wonder if Dawn Pro got enough power to drive KZ PR2.
its more than enough bro. i have shio. its run well with 4.4 balance. sometimes too loud for 28% on phone volume. maybe you better pick this over shio. idk how to say but shio trebel bit flavored not very neutral. For technicalities good enough for price but there more better option like dc04 pro, tanchjim space, or dawn pro
No, pr2 need atleast 400mw
I want best dac price to performance ratio doesn't need to be portable suggest me one
I tried this using my phone (Poco F5) with Apple Music. One issue I encountered was when streaming Hi Res Lossless, no sound was heard on IEM.
may you are using ttrs instead of trs
Hi anyone can help plz
Which is better between Fiio KA3 and Moondrop dawn pro?
Honestly I'm intrigued by the comparison of truthear shio vs dawn pro. Almost the same price, shio has a little more power. Which one would be better ?
at this point depends on what you need to drive, the extra power isnt needed on iem for example
@@orlandoinnamorato yup that's the question, which one sounds better ?
To me it sounds identical to the Shio, Dawn Pro has better build though, and independent volume control. Shio you can switch between low and high gain by holding down both keys, with the Dawn Pro you need to use the app to switch gain modes. I don't think there is any meaningful power difference.
Hi Dave... I need to get a new Dongle DAC since my daughter appropriated my HIDZIS S9 Pro when you went to college. What is currently your best suggestion < $200?
Thanks for watching! Probably Moonriver 2 Ti but Fiio BTR7 is great if you need Bluetooth, and screen. BTR7 is kind of bulky though.
@@Gizaudio Thanks a lot... I really don't care much about BT since I will be using it only with wired IEMs or headphones, also paying for MQA when I have no MQA music makes no sense. I recall you did a review for the Moonriver so I'll go back and look at it to get your impressions on its sound. Once again great work on your reviews and thanks for the recommendation. Now let's hope my daughter doesn't listen to it and likes it more than the S9.
there is FiiO KA13, it can push a lot of power, same DACs like this thing, $30 more expensive at $80@@josecintron85
@@komi1834 will have to look at that one as well. thanks
mmhhhhh waht i see is that the tanjim space has screws... my dawn pro broke after about two months, dont know if it has to do with loose circiutboard inside but only the fact you can press the volume button by wiggeling the cable is a big nono for me. sounds great but build quality is bad.
hello, total noob here, If I buy one like this will I be able to enjoy my IEMs at its fullest?
Can anyone confirm if this one is compatible with the Asus ROG Phone, preferably the 7?
Because Shio doesn't and DC04 pro does.
Hi. Is the moondrop link compatible with ios? Both my dawn pro and space travel in my iphone11 and iphone15 are not detected. Works fine on my android.
Hi, same here. Did you found something?
I'm considering either buying this DAC for my IEMs or an LG V40 to use as a DAP. This DAC for 50 or V40 for 100, used when travelling and from home. What do you guys think?
I suggest you buy a real digital audio player (DAP) instead of LG smartphone with audiophile features. For budget ones the Hiby R3ii comes to mind (I'm buying this myself soon enough). A dedicated DAP has the advantage of not draining your phone's battery and vice versa. Phone is for communicating, DAP for music listening. With Bluetooth enabled DAP, the phone can easily be connected to the DAP.
Or if a DAP is out of your budget or impractical, then buy a dongle like this Moondrop (or even go cheaper with one of those Jcally types).
Why not the audiophile phone like the LG V40?
Because smartphones come and go, you don't want to tie in your music listening to a smartphone. There might be other phone brands with better features than the V40, so you don't need to compromise with an all in one.
@@benedictjohannes hi Benedict I'm new to this so I want to ask you if I buy the dap that you recommended do I also need to buy the small dac in the video?
@@f_society9151 the DAP can do what the small DAC can do for music playback, so, if you buy this DAP, I don't recommend buying this DAC.
But if you want to use an earphone with an inline microphone, because this player doesn't support it, you'd need a dongle. A cheap JCALLY dongle will do the job below 10usd.
Point is, Hiby players allow you to load your music files to listen to it independent from the phone. In addition, it can also function as a DAC through USB or Bluetooth. These functions aren't available in dongles.
Use the V40 as a dap. Longer battery and it has its own storage, plus it frees up the USB-c port on your main phone.
@@benedictjohannes Thanks for your tip, I ended up buying an R3 Pro Saber second hand for a great price, and I am really enjoying it so far!

Hi. Andy from donglemadness said that the dawn sound identical with dc3pro. And with this review we know that dawn pro sound the same as dawn but less power.
So conclusion is dc3pro sound the same as dawn pro, but I think dc3 pro has more power. Three of them has the same dac chip.
I my self have the dc3pro and curious about dawn pro, thanks to this vid, I see no point for getting it.
But had I not have the dc3pro, I would probably went for dawn pro because its dual bal output.
@@totokprasetyo5170 thank you for the explanation!
Does the Dawn Pro support microphone input for IEMs with mics in their cable? Wondering since the HiBy FC1/3/4 have this feature. Dawn Pro would be perfect if it did since I really like the 100 step volume control. The only thing making me consider the FC1 is that mic support. The FC4 actually fits my preferences, but it's ~$25 more than the Dawn Pro.
Also, do you think the 3.5mm output power of the Dawn Pro is more or less than 70mW? Asking coz the FC1 is rated for 70wM @ 32Ohms. Thanks!
Most devices with balanced out don't have ADCs. Would be shocked if Dawn Pro supports inline mics
Thanks for checking out the review!
I just made a call with the Kinera Gramr cable w/ mic and Dawn Pro and it worked great! Not sure about the 3.5 power output. Usually, the SE output is about half of the balanced output, so it could be as low as 60 mW but can't say for sure.

Just ordered one, from Amazon. Unfortunately, it has to come from China, so it will not be here for quite a while.

It works with iPhone 15 and iOS 17.4. but the MOONDROP App does not recognize the dongle. So the Dac is ok but don’t expect to be able to change the settings with MOONDROP Link App.
How does this compare to the Apple Dongle Dac?
Yes
it's much better, Apple Dongle DAC does only 3mW @ 32Ohms, this does 120 on BAL, 10x more power is 2x the perceived loudness, so 120 vs 3 is like 3x as loud

How can I know if the MOONDROP DAWN PRO is working at 32 bit? I currently have the ifi UNO and the LED changes color to yellow when it is in 32 bit and thanks to that I have noticed that in Windows 11 every time the PC turns on , the DAC goes to 24 bit and does not allow you to go to 32 bit unless you turn it off and on again, which is very annoying. I would like to buy the MOONDROP but I am afraid that like the IFI UNO it will not stay in 32 bit all the time
The light turns blue when the Dawn Pro is receiving a 32-bit signal. I'm testing on Windows 11 right now, and it seems to be working fine. I disconnected and reconnected the Dawn Pro several times, and the blue light comes on every time.
