My friend the famed singer T K Govinda Rao saar could sing with no talam display by himself for hours. Sri Ramprasad is doing the same thing; he goes without his own talam motions without missing a beat. I think that is a delighful visual delight -- atleast for me.

Excellent recital Dr Ramprasad. These days when our youth throng to go the US to settle, you took your PhD in Economics from Univ of Georgia, and returned to India in pursuit of divine music. You are an excellent example of renunciation. It is difficult to achieve and you did it.

The rare Nilambari "Nageyu barutide enage" by Carnatic music's 'Pitamaha' Purandaradasa was excellently rendered by Sri Ramprasad making his paternal grandfather 'abhinavanandi' Palghat Mani Iyer[who could make his mridangam 'sing'] who aspired to be a stage singer proud. Though his dream never realized look where he ended up. He looks muscularly healthy. I want him to be like that for years and years to entertain us. One more Palghat Mani I yer reminiscence: He used to yield the main artiste to the upapakkavadyam vidwan many many times. Here this young man Kaushik has yielded his space to his senior Purushothaman without breaking in -- just like the great PMI -- while Sri Ramprasad was singing. I see it all the time the mridangam man is all over; if at all he yields he would come and barge in right before upapakkom soul has a chance to finish off his business. 'Akhilandeswari' is a popular song; even Semmangudi mahavidwan had sung it many times. Nadswara vidwans play it all the time. Nothing wrong with that. But -- there is a lingering doubt about the authenticity of that song as to the composer Muthuswami Dikshitar who was in fact the creator of Dwijavanti which he modified from Hindustani's Jaijaiwanti(two 'Jais' ended up as 'Dwi' in his version) he came across during his Kashi trip. One thing is sure : 'Cheta Shribalakrishnam' is indeed his and his only. No wonder a Dwijavanti lover Madurai Mani Iyer never sang Akhilandeshwari but -- Cheta Shribalakrishnam countless times. Just a point I am expressing while listening to this serious take that Dwijavanti deserves by this young vidwan Sri Ramprasad.
