Another version of this lovely song is a 1959 recording from Venezuela. Nunca Sabre sung by Mario Suarez.

Beatles researchers in the 1970-1990's apparently never knew this version existed-they always cite the Manuel and the Music of the Mountains versions inspiring Paul McCartney-but he had to get the lyrics from somewhere. Plus the title sequence of the movie has this version.

In fact, Mark Lewisohn in his book "The Beatles Live!" (1986) went beyound sugesting that Paul wrote the lyrics for The Beatles version.

It was in fact McCartney who liked the song he heard in "Honeymoon" (or "The Lovers of Teruel" as it was shown in USA) that liked the song and suggested to the other Beatles they should record it for the radio show "Pop Go the Beatles". The recording was forgotten until 1994, when it featured in the album «The Beatles: Live at the BBC». I found this info in a Greek blog.

Naive and sincere at the same time, this song is perfect. The echo and tingly, slightly
tatty guitar are sounds from an era that has disappeared, more's the pity.

+Maria Lowe Marino was an electrical engineer and came up with many guitar effects long before The Shadowa

It is naïve and, as a Greek, I can tell you that the Greek lyrics (written some years later) are more naïve than the English ones.

+Allivegp Livalex If you don't like the record, just leave it. Don't spoil other peoples' enjoyment of it. That's why
      you're a dick.

I am terribly sorry, I don't understand neither you nor your language. If you interprete my comment more carefully, it expresses my dislike for the person that gave the one negative vote for this lovely song. Besides, I am a greek and I am very proud of the greek composer Mikis Theodorakis and a great fan of his. I hope you will make up for your wrong comment.

+Allivegp Livalex Fair enough. I understand now what you meant and I agree with you. Hope your country
escapes from austerity and that horrible Merkel woman.
