That's actually my way to "listen to" death metal growling vocals. To treat them just as background music track instead of trying to figure out what is being sung. That's also the reason why I don't care about "ideology" that certain bands try to present occasionally. I just don't care - it's just additional music track.
Most modern tech death is about space and human condition, which is not the most interesting topic. Nobody and I mean nobody listens to death metal for the lyrics haha

Especially metal fans aswell. Any pop rock is gay emo music, any Rap is music for little kids, any electronic music is just "noise" made by a computer. I'm not saying you should enjoy all genres like I do, but atleast appreciate good pieces within different genres.

Jari of WinterSun did the drums for The Forest Seasons album with samples. Also, I'm pretty sure the dude behind the black metal band Leviathan uses samples as well because he can't play the drums. It is not very common though.

For the record, you didn't miss out on anything by not understanding their lyrics. Necrophagist is pretty well-known in the metal community for mind-blowing instrumentals combined with a boring vocal style and lyrics that sound as though they were copied and pasted into whatever the first online translator was. Fans like to affectionately mock them by spelling out and pronouncing their song titles the way they sound when vocalized. Ergo, "Diminished to b" becomes "Drmrnrshed tr bree" and "Only Ash Remains" becomes "Oh We a Rash Oy Mains", etc. By the way, pre-congratulations on 100k subscribers! (99k when this was written)

The drummer on this record is the astonishing Hannes Grossmann. Romain Goulon, another awesome drummer went later and even Marco Minnemann played live with them on tour.

@@hughneutron5303 it was recorded using samples, not physically played. Hannes recorded the samples from his kit I do believe, and went on to learn and play it live like a goddamn machine. Watch live recordings to hear the real thing ;)

Yeah! I never realized it myself, but Marco Minnemann has played for a while with Necrophagist. He's one of the most famous and skilled german drummers and I normally I wouldn't associate him with technical death metal, but rather jazz and fusion. You can check his stuff out here on UA-cam, if you haven't already.
My Name Is Simeon hannes Grossman was the one who drummed to this though. Marco Minneman toured live with them only.

Romain Goulan is absolutely not on this album. I saw Hanes tour with them that year after it was released. Romain didn't join to many years later. And he never released an album with them.
The actual drummer on the record, I believe, is Hannes Grossman. Amazing drummer who has done many great albums since. fyi. they were a great band and left everyone waiting for the next album since this was recorded in the early 2000s. Great to see more people digging in to them

Equipoise has a brand new album out, but those two bands really filled the void that Necrophagist left for technical death metal with that classical touch + a bit of prog

Velda Fayz both albums were actually recorded with a drum machine. live shows were originally played by Marco minnemann and hanes grossman. i can't remember who was first. romain is there current drummer.
david theune Hannes joined immediately after Epitaph and played it live for 4 years then Marco joined for one year. After he left, Romain joined and ostensibly is still their drummer, assuming they're still together

This is the good part of UA-cam. I love folk, americana, post-rock, ambient, etc. but I love me some tech-death. Necrophagist was easily one of the best shows I've ever attended. They headlined with Origin, Dying Fetus, Decrepit Birth, Beneath the Massacre, Winds of Plague, and Darkest Hour. Life is amazing sometimes.
You got my follow for your openminded-ness and enjoyment of music. Seem like a real genuine guy. I Love Necrophagist btw. Idk if you have listened to Opeth-Deliverence but its a masterpeice.
