Imagine we actually have 2 sidecars haha! One oldtimer, as video'd. And a modern one ( vmc chassis fitted with a 1 cilinder build ktm engine ( 450 to 665cc )
I love sound if these bikes ticking over but they sound awesome on full power ,I remember them racing at Streetly hills circuit back in the early/mid eighties. 😊
Years ago when I was younger and raced mx... on a CR500 I may add I was practicing with my friends who had a 1000 Eml. Do you want a go Glen they asked. OK I said. After a while of kicking it over and new plugs it fired up and I took the helm. It was incredible the raw power this machine put out and the fear it gave me. After a while I went into the sidecar and away we went. Fear returned.... 10 cm too far to the left or to the right and we were all over the place. I thought solo mx was hard but this was another level. It was an incredible experience for me. I'm no pussy on a dirt bike but when Martin asked if I wanted to have a go another time I sadly declined. My CR500 was a beast but the 1000 was a monster. So I doff my cap to anyone anywhere who races an outfit and they have my utter respect. 🐒
Thats a very cool story!, ive been racing sidecars for the past 15 years ( 27 years of age now ) and its the best thing ever. The jumbo is the fastest bike ive ever ridden, even compared to my modern vmc - ktm 665.
Thankyou! It will be fully rebuild when we have some time in between races. New chrome, wheels will be powdercoated and new silencers are on their way.
Some straps and you'll be able to hang on🤣👌. Jokes aside, when it hits the powerband you actually have to hold on properly or it'll suprise the hell out of you.
Monster , i have seen one off this aircooled enginges for many years on a Gemany motorcycle pice market. Eml (Jumbo)next come with watercool engine with 1000ccm ,to strong, then 800ccm.
I worked at the auction 1990, a 650 kawasaki sidecar came in, I stopped him before the auction, he said give me £€30 I wanted to see it run but he said needs a battery, i was a bit wary, the end of the day I heard it start up & been purchased for £200.
Thanks! I sadly can not tell you, theres no reason for us to put it on the dyno ( except hp figures ) as every track is on a diffrent altitude and we have to change jets and throttle needles all the time.

Hahah its great fun tho! We always say you have a good passanger when : you look through the left ear and can look straight out the right one🤣. And there's no way in hell i am kicking it without a boot on. Ive had a kickback from it when we were playing with the ignition ( with boot on ) and my foot got so big i couldnt take my boot off anymore after. Imagine if i was wearing trainers to start it.
@mikekeuben There's a video of a Yamaha 490 someone advanced ignition to much and when he Kicked it it ran backwards , also I commented on a new rider teaching people how to wheelie in trainers and shorts and he said I can't feather the back brake in boots and I replied it'd be alot more difficult with your legs in plaster , you go-to show these machines respect Just starting them
Life long motorcyclist, not familiar with that brand. Why run the pipes like that? I'm sure there is a reason, I would think the monkey would get burned. Anyone? Beuller?
I cant really tell you, sidecars go all the way back to the 50's and 60's and most of them were made of just random bikes, whatever they could use basically. When they started making chassis specially for sidecarcross people put their streetbike engines in those and to save the engine from exhaust heat as the exhaust would have to be routed next to the engine because running it underneath would squash the exhaust at the first stone/hard landing and also for the passanger ( as you stated ) they routed the exhausts through the sidecar instead of the conventional way.

Salute for keeping this thing, taking up quite a bit of space in your garage.
It's "the beast". ❤

Absolutely love these things. Great to see one going. 👍🏻
If only they would let me race it in uk. Sadly it's monoshock so not allowed.
