Chuck Person: The Indiana Pacers sharpshooter before Reggie Miller | Forgotten Player Profiles

- The Rifleman, Chuck Person came into the league as a complete scorer and won rookie of the year with Indiana, but just a year later, they drafted Reggie Miller. And although Person kept producing, Miller continued to separate himself each year, until Person was traded about halfway through his career. Person would bounce around with 4 teams the remainder of his career, finding some success as a specialist in San Antonio. Unfortunately, a back injury led to a steep decline in the later years of Person's career. Even though Person may not have been the most consistent scorer, or the best defender, he was a threat to go off on any given night and gave fans a lot of excitement and opponents a lot of buckets for 13 seasons.

This man was an NBA Jam MVP. “He’s on fire!” Burning up the net from long range.
Can't lie bro. This channel is awesome for me. 39 years old. Bringing back my childhood. Reggie Lewis, Jeff Hornacek, Terrell Brandon, Vlade Divac, A.C Green, Allan Houston, Dennis Scott
Same reason I fell in love with this channel.
He hasn't done Hornacek yet
His matchup against Bird in playoffs was classic
1991 and the 92 playoffs vs the Pacers was fun. The night of my senior prom was game 4 in 91. I was watching the game all night :) Tough loss for Celtics but Larry got the last laugh in game 5.
Yeah the Celtics were aging during that time and Bird back was so bad but he found a way to get it done
That game when he a Bird went off is what made me love basketball
The amount of shit talking in that series was legendary
He gave Bird that cheapshot elbow at the end of the game 5 that caused Bird to miss game 1 of the next series which ended up costing the series.
Its crazy because there's noway anyone from the past 2 generations will actually know or understand where is Nick Name Rifleman actually originates from.. .. literally and old Western who's main star had the exact same name coupled with his ability to shoot long range.
One of the best Nick Names in NBA history.
I had the privilege of watching him play.
Like wise
He was an underrated player. I imagine he and Charles Barkley were a good outside inside combination in college.
Yeah, they probably could have been, but person played in the post alot when Barkley was there
@@ForgottenPlayerProfiles barkley always complained about him being a black hole on offence.
War Eagle
They would kill the Auburn cafeteria:
Person
Barkley
Bo Jackson
Frank Thomas
the left nothing for Lionel James
He was one of my all time favorite Pacers, I was freshman in college when my blue n gold drafted him
He was without a doubt one of the best shooting big men in the history of the NBA.. honestly it's hard to think of anybody with as much range as he had 🏀
Abdul-Rauf, Arenas, Curry and Lillard.
@@nocturne311 I said shooting big men.. and he still has as much range as anybody you named.
@@mrrida503 My bad. I thought those were separate thoughts and you were saying he had as much range as anyone in general. Person wasn't shooting from Arenas-Curry range with the efficiency they did in their primes, but I'll give you Abdul-Rauf. Chuck was a sniper though. That's for sure.
@@nocturne311 Remember, he wa gunnin' from the "old line" which is farther.. I'll still take "The Rifleman" over all of um. I want a guy who can rebound too! 🏀
He is a big man compared to an average human. Small forwards are not considered big men in the NBA
As a lifelong Pacers fan when they traded him i was so mad
Oh man...me too. He was my favorite player
Good video. Lots of research went into this. Narrator works hard.
A lot of these duo's never get along hurting their franchises in the process. I remember Chuck Person back then it was unusual for a guy his size bombing from the outside.
Hey man great videos, keep it up
Appreciate it!
Great player one of my favorites....!
Draft night suit is fabulous 👌
Didn't realize that Chuck Person was Rookie Of the Year. That 1986 draft was the dope fiend draft. Washburn, Tarpley, Bias and put William Bedford in there too. The 2nd & 3rd round pics made the impact in that draft. Sabonis was drafted in 1986 but didn't come to the NBA until 10 years later
❤❤❤❤❤❤ one of the best
Thanks dude
Thank you
You should do an episode on the Mavs trio of Derek Harper, Rolando Blackman, and Mark Aguirre. Also, a shame that Aguirre is not in the HOF. Or the 80s Bucks of Terry Cummings, Ricky Pierce, and Sydney Moncrief. One of the most underrated groups of players.
Check out the channel. I don't have one on the mavs trio but I do have one on the Blackman Aguirre duo
4:00 Roy Tarpley is now deceased.
yea the Riffleman - i remember his last game as Sonics he play Vs Spurs and scores 9 pts ( 3x3pts )
We used to get our haircut at the same barbershop on Michigan Ave in northwest Indianapolis.
had that he got caught up in that college bribery situation
Great shooter
welp, love this series thats a subscribe....some players id love to see: Kevin Johnson, Danny Manning, and Glen Rice.
I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American. I LOVED how he scored against Boston (because I'm Japanese-American, I HATE the Boston Celtics), but HATED how Chuck and Wesley Person KILLED the Blazers and Sonics.
Can you get a Bernard king?
Rifle man
Yeah that name fits too
Number 4 pick in the 1986 draft. 4 of the top ten players washed out of the NBA due to cocaine.
He did Larry Bird dirty with that cheap shot to the back!!! But I laughed my ass off
It caused Bird to miss game 1 of the next series which ended up costing Boston the series.
1:12 none of the players had skinny legs in those days
Shout out to Chuck Person! Great shooter and talked a lot of shit to Larry Bird but didn’t have a team like Boston to bag it up lol.
The matchup in 91 of Person vs Bird was real. For a real short period of time Chuck Person was enemy #1. I believe after Bird got the last laugh in Game 5 a reporter said to him and I am paraphrasing. So I know you 2 are enemies on the court. But I hear you guys are friends off the court and have met in Indiana etc. And Bird said " oh yeah me and Chuck are real close, in the summer I have him come up and mow my lawn" Not sure if that is true or not but it's classic Larry Bird
@@bryanburnap4537 Dee Brown said on a podcast that Larry had bet Person that Celts would win game five and if they did Chuck had to come cut his lawn. Anyway Chuck did work for the Pacers under Bird.
Shoutout eccojams
Ahhhhh yeah he did play with Charlie
Sean Elliott butt smacked seemed a lil awkward lol . 😂
That 1991 series against the Celtics was a classic. Chuck was so close to backing up all of his trash talk. I hate the Celtics and wanted so badly for the Pacers to upset them, but alas...
Do one on Glenn Rice
Did one on him already
@@ForgottenPlayerProfiles Bravo 👏 gonna check it out thx🤞🏾
Nice video. Was amongst the many basketball cards I had back in the day. Im glad the truth about Christian Laettnier came out. Disliked him @ DUKE, was appalled when he was selected to the Dream Team (reserves). OVERRATED.
He is coaching scoot now...
Chuck had an issue with his weight and cardio.
I always thought wesley was the better person. 😜
He was better then Reggie
Reggie just got all the plays ran for him
Gotta be honest, his brother Wesley Person was a much better shooter
Over rated give me dale Ellis
Hell no!!! Person over Ellis any day
