    Even as over 200,000 irish people went across the water to work in factories to assist the in war and or enlist, it was enough to prevent the introduction of rationing.
    Why, I hear you ask?
    Because Ireland was far from neutral in WWII.
    It fed and Guinnessed the 300,000 American troops as well as exporting food to UK.
    This in turn, forced the government to introduce rationing during the emergency as it was called.
    Youngest wing commander to die in WWII was a Dubliner called Paddy Finnicunne.
    He had a Shamrock painted on his plane so everyone knew him and where he was. He was just 21 when he was shot down.
