I think this one of the most important videos about this machine. I think you additionally showed why some people might find resampling in octatrack making their sounds "flat'. It's the filter which is by default on first effect slot as default.

Quality video! This is exactly the help I need with the OT. I'm using it more and more but I gain staging the various internally routed elements has proven a stumbling block.

oh thank you mate, that's another great one of yours. as a standard for hi hats n claps i use max vol and distortion of the filter for more presence. but there's lot more to do with gain. thanx alot.

Nice, fun to see a thorough demonstration of the limits of different settings in the OT. I was unaware of the +3db tool as well. You're making some cool stuff

wasn't quite expecting what happened to that sinewave with the +3dB - is acting like some sort of horrible wavefolder :D

@@maxmarco yeah, it looks like it's folding the wave, but it adds inharmonics probably due to the sample rate. I personally liked how it sounded on the sine, but it doesn't seem useful for most occasions

@@maxmarcoIm about 4 years late to this, but it looks like whats happening is a little different to wavefolding. In a normal wave folder any signal that goes past the ceiling gets inverted or 'folded' back down across the ceiling point. It looks like whats happening here is that the signal going above the ceiling on the positive half of the waveform wraps back around to the negative half and vice versa, like going off the side of a pacman level and ending up on the other side. Very strange behavior from the octatrack, but honestly pretty cool, I've never seen that form of waveshaping before.

nice! Finally a video about this. I kinda had to learn the gain staging inherent to the OT on my own. There's a few very informative thread on Elektronaut about it but that's it.

Amazing! The Octatrack can be now a pretty amazing drone machine as well.

very helpful video .. it is good to know the quirks of your sound machine the OT as a synthesiser you master in that ... its a good option to have but not necessarily a must, just sample en extern synth is more time economic

thank you! this video is mostly about gaining an understanding internal gain stages, although the possible synthesis applications are interesting - if the economics of music production are of a concern then I would always suggest to avoid things like Octatrack (or Elektron boxes in general) and simply use a DAW :)
