I have worked for about 10 year and has come across with Australian healthcare system, still am not getting interview call, can you please guide for cv and selection criteria and gap to cover up
How is the registrar application for IMGs? I planned to do the standard pathway right after my graduation and internship then do my residency in Australia. Most of the IMGs I see are general practitioners and the registrars are from the specialist pathway. Do you have any insights on the Anesthetic residency for IMGs? Do we have a chance or do they only choose Australian doctors? How about the other residency?
Hello...I have a question please reply. i have completed graduation on pharmacy in Bangladesh...Now I want to do mph in Australia and after mph I want to do phd...So now should I apply research based mph degree in Australia?
There are two types of registration in Australia - general and specialist. It is not necessary to have general registration if you are only seeking to work as a specialist. If you are seeking specialist registration, you need to have completed surgical training in the UK, passed your FRCS exams and obtain a CCT certificate. You will need to attend an interview with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in person and they will asses your qualifications as well as your logbook for the past two years. They will then specify the period of supervision (1-2 yrs) you will require and whether you have to do the FRACS II exams. In general, the most common recommendation for a qualified surgeon from UK is 1 year supervision by two Fellows of the college and no examination is required. This year of supervision is meant to allow you to get used to the way things are done in Australia and is not a reflection on your experience. Things are done very differently especially in rural areas as distances are many times that in the UK. The logbook aspects that they are looking for is that you should at least have operated on the number and types of surgery that places you on par with that of a final year trainee.
It is definitely possible but it places you at a disadvantage compared to PR and people who are already have a visa for work in Australia. From an employer's point of view, the immigration and registration process is frustrating and uncertain so they will only embark upon this when they do not have other choice for example in a rural area. Having said that, coming from the UK after having GMC registration is definitely easier. I have seen doctors coming from Myanmar, Malaysia and India but some may be required to do intern level job again.
Thank you so much. This was so useful outback doctor!
