Tony thanks for checking this out and working with me on this and thank you for the inspiration to go down this Ulta 64 insipred rabbit hole!!!
I want one of these. Are these gonna be on your etsy in the future?
What the person above said
I want one
Tony doesn't back down and doesn't apologize, solid.
Hes right, you know

I don't understand why people would disagree with the Yoshi Story D-pad idea. It's a 2D game after all and it makes sense to me. Sure, you could argue that you could use the analog stick to ease on movement, but you don't really have to do that in the game at all.
I can remember one particular point in the game where you had to sneak past one or more bee hives. This wouldn't be possible with just the D-pad. You'd also have less precise control when aiming eggs.
@@tjrhodes85 Hmm... I didn't remember the bee hive bit, but you do raise a good point regarding the aiming of the eggs. My mind misremembered and thought the aim controls was like Yoshi's Island 2.
Kirby's Dreamland and I think Goemon and Mischief Makers used the D-Pad. N64 controller feels like a SNES controller when using D-pad.
I always hate when 2D sidescrollers force you to use the analog stick rather than giving OPTIONS.
The dust under the control stick probably came from too many rounds of Mario Party.
Hope you're doing well Tony, love the content.
Tony complained about the prototype's stick, but negleted to mention (or possibly notice) that it has a circular gate compared to the retail controller's octogonal gate. A circular gate would absolutely contribute to the sense of slipperiness and lack of precise control that Tony mentioned. Now, I wasn't there and have never held a protoype controller, so take what I say with a grain of salt. But I do think it bears mentioning.
Noticed it, had it in the original script, didn't include it. Think I just forgot tbh. 🤷
If you are going to de-evolve game systems, mod the original Xbox to fit into a giant metal X case (like it looked when they first previewed the console at E3).
Very cool replica parts to make this controller like the original prototype. I have a magazine with an advert for the Ultra 64 and love it. Great video Tony!
Pretty cool. All that effort just to remake the prototype controller. It's proof that retro gameing is very much alive and we love it.
Amen to this!

Great job man. Made me wanna check out your channel. Good stuff.
@@TimothyTimPSP man I appreciate that 🙏 definitely need to do more n64 mods in the future and who knows shoshinkai next?!

If you're into the psp and got the time please give my channel a look. I'm all about custom psp's.
To this day, the most memorable video game quote to me is, "AVAILABLE FOR HOME IN 1995, ONLY ON NINTENDO ULTRA 64!" Good God that hyped me up so much back then.
This was a fun project to work on! Great video!
Thank you for your contribution!!!!! Do you have a social or youtube page I can add to the description?
@@hard4games just my twitter is fine 👍
Why are the code names for consoles always better and more memorable? Ultra 64, Revolution, Dolphin, Scarlet, Morpheus, Lockhart, Orbis, I could go on.
Total guess here, but I bet R&D has somewhat of a say in the development name, and Marketing has more of a say in the retail name.
Ultra 64 wasn't even it's code name. They were really going to call it that. I think somewhere along the line Nintendo of Japan must have asked Nintendo of America to stick to the global name.
The code names are more memorable because they're usually known for years before the retail names. I still call PlayStation PSX out of habit.
Who wants to invite friends over to play with their Orbis?

You can also use Loctite blue or red if you want it permanently attached.
Apply on the screw and voila!
Good evening from Greece 🌞

Amazing content! Thanks for the upload
Nice new episode thanks.
I'd love to see an Ultra 64 styled stick gate too
this is the nurdys thing ive ever seen I LOVE IT !!!!
That's a pretty cool replica. Dunno why people would give you backlash for wanting the D-Pad to be usable for Yoshi's Story...I wanted the same thing when I played it.
Can u make a replica of the ultra 64 controller but with the recent 2 prong aftermarket looking controllers
Ficou perfeito o controle e o Nintendo 64! Parabéns.
I really need such an Ultra 64 jewel on my console! ❤️
How very interesting.
This is why I'm here, prototype stuff.
The analog stick is now ribbed for Tony's pleasure.
Hopefully some more prototypes leak out and someone will lend theirs to make reproduction U64 controllers I honestly really like the form factor way more than the retail n64
I agree with you, yoshi story should,ve be played with a d-pad and not with the poke stick, but i guess nintendo wanted to force use to get used with their poke stick!!!
For such knowledge people, it's weird that you guys don't know of blue threadlock for screws.
No apologies. Love it. Also, I agree. D-pad is much better for 2D platformers.
just make the top of the post square ya dingsus
So not is bigger, the Z button is the same and the joystick mechanism is the comercial one...
The interesting part of the prototype is that is an adult controller, while the comercial version was tweaked for kids...
Any game that looks two dimensional like Super Mario Brothers or Yoshi's Island or Shantae, should always have d-pad support just because feels really weird using a joystick
You looked like Kumail Nanjiani, lol! It's the chin.
SATURDAY!!
@5:16 CHUCKLE
3d printing at all to replicate the shape? I thought after seeing those 3d renders in some software he showed.
Find out the system and play it!
On youtube name lets e go
Good morning
Good morning! Welcome to the episode!
Did he match the button colors?
Крутой канал, мне нравится
Never knew.
where do I buy
People got triggered by you not using the D pad for Yoshi story? Seriously I just think if the game has the analog stick as the option, it still counts to test with analog as well. I was always more triggered by the fact that everyone in the world except Australia got the Pink Yoshi cart and we were the only ones who got the green yoshi. I had nothing against Pink!

I want
You're right about Yoshi's Story lol Would rather just use a D-Pad myself since my Analogue Stick is worn out. -Matt

I was so, so interested... until I actually saw the joystick itself. Octagonal gate, steelstick compliant... I just lost all interest sadly. I'd be interest in a purist model for purists like me, a metal *bowl* would be fine, though.
