    Awesome video, clear and concise, it gives me confidence that I can do this.
    My question, which might help others: I've used the "Test Record" feature at the top where the "Hosted zone details" section appears to test out the subdomain, getting back a DNS response code of "No Error" with a green check mark. However, in a Chrome incognito browser, I just get a "DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN" message. How long does this take to propagate? Should I just wait 24 hours?

    • @TinyTechnicalTutorials
      @TinyTechnicalTutorials  3 місяці тому

      Thanks for the kind words, Ron! 😊 Hmmm...I haven't seen this error myself, but judging from the giant troubleshooting page from AWS, it seems like a common one: repost.aws/knowledge-center/route-53-troubleshoot-nxdomain-responses. (It's strange that you get different messages in Incognito mode??) But for general domain errors I've encountered in the past, waiting does seem to fix the problem a lot of the times. Looks like it's probably been about 24 hours by now, so let me know if that did the trick. Hopefully it'll help someone else too! 💪🌟

      @@TinyTechnicalTutorials Thanks for the response, I was able to figure it out. I had originally set up the domain via Lightsail. The fix was to delete everything (related) in Route 53 and then add the records via Lightsail. Hopefully, this helps someone else :-)

      @TinyTechnicalTutorials  6 місяців тому

      Hi Eliud! 👋 Thanks for the kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. 😊
      To your question, where is your domain name currently registered? Is it with Google Domains? You should be able to use an external domain to point to a static site on S3. I actually *just* published an article for a similar project here: www.freecodecamp.org/news/aws-project-build-a-resume/#domain-name-option-2-use-a-domain-name-from-a-third-party-provider. It's not fully what you need, but should help you get started on the Route 53 piece. 🤓

    Hi, Route 53 is great, but is it possible to use other providers to do BOTH the functions of registering the domain + domain hosting, especially if we want to use AWS resources like Cloudfront, ELB etc, which typically would have been convenient if we used route 53 to do the domain hosting with the 'alias' feature.

    • @TinyTechnicalTutorials
      @TinyTechnicalTutorials  6 місяців тому

      Hi again Praveen! 👋 It's possible to use other providers for domain registration and hosting, but with CloudFront specifically, you'll run into issues because you need to point the apex domain (example.com) from your provider to an IP address, which you can't get for CloudFront (you only get a URL). There are also complications with SSL certificates. So using Route 53 and an alias is a better/easier way to go. Here's a pretty lengthy post that gets to some of the issues: repost.aws/questions/QUersPbB2LQF-FJN6IFfCEKQ/how-can-i-serve-cloudfront-assets-to-a-naked-domain-i-manage-with-a-non-aws-dns-provider

    For a domain registered in AWS, do the name servers need to be changed to the ones from hosted zone NS record? (I created the hosted zone manually). Because my domain is pointing to a working elastic IP address, but is not accessible from the browser

    • @TinyTechnicalTutorials
      @TinyTechnicalTutorials  Рік тому

      Hi Konrad! When you create a new hosted zone, an NS record should be created for you automatically, with values that match "Name servers" in "Hosted zone details." I've never had to edit these myself. I wonder if the issue might be a security group on the instance you're trying to connect to? Check that HTTP port 80 is allowing inbound traffic?

      Hi Jyolsna! 😊 I haven't tried registering a domain with the CLI before, but just checked the documentation: awscli.amazonaws.com/v2/documentation/api/latest/reference/route53/index.html. I don't see any obvious command for this, so you might have to use the UI. When you get a domain name, there's a "checkout" flow where you see the $$ amount and such, so maybe that's why you have to use the UI. Thanks for watching...glad the video was helpful!

      Hi Narendra! 😊 For Route 53, you'll be billed based on queries to the domain name (plus some small costs for a hosted zone). Pricing details here: aws.amazon.com/route53/pricing/. But then you'll also pay for the compute power that's running the website (like an EC2 instance or a container).
