I travel worked in a big city with a place that looked just like that. Asked at the desk about prices for extended stay and they were very reasonable so asked if I could look at a room. If the room wasn't crawling with bugs with visible filth on the carpet I would have paid up front for four months at that place. The bullet proof glass at the desk should have been my first clue.

There is a party store located across the street, it's the meet up spot to buy. These people aren't just standing around doing nothing, they're waiting for their customers. My dad used to buy from a lot of people who were housed here. Unfortunately, my brother and I were in his backseat. Also, the hotel is being emptied by the city or county. I can't remember which. It was in the news a few weeks back.

But here's the really sad part: areas & aces like this can be found in every major city from Maine to Oregon and from Michigan to Florida.
The Royal Inn doesn't look like a family hotel. It looks like a homeless shelter or a hotel that has some sort of linkage with various programs to house a certain population. Ijs I'm not familiar with this spot so I really don't know.

Stayed here once about 20 years ago opened a dresser drawer had a paper lunch bag in it and so many cockroaches it was incredible then the moron at the desk didn't want to even give me a partial refund until he called police and they practically laughed at him.... I got my money back

So much activity that used to go on up there, it's crazy. People rent rooms there from hookers, homeless people, drug dealers you name it.

I love everything you just mentioned. I just had my engagement photos on Belle Isle and downtown at Campus Martius. Detroit was, is and will only continue to beautiful and up and coming.

Angie the entire time you have been alive the city has been in constant regression. It went from being the 4th biggest city in 1950 to 711,113 in 2010. These are facts. There are not a lot of positive things to be said about a city steadily declining for 65 years. But hey, at least you have clean drinking water?

Mel Far the Superstar car dealer with the red cape flying over South Eastern Michigan back in the day! Right next to that motel. Wyoming and 8 mile... good action always can be found there.

One small problem, this motel is not in Detroit. It’s on the north side of 8 Mile, I believe that’s Royal Oak Twp.
