One time my party beat the shit out of Strahd when we were level 4. I mean he got away but if he'd stayed a few more rounds he would have been temporarily dusted.
I have a feeling your dm left Strahd around too long, didn't use his temporary hit points properly, didn't trigger regeneration or legendary actions, or didn't use his HP from the stat block. He would be EXTREMELY difficult to hurt much at L4
@@kyleweir689 Between the paladin, cleric and sun soul monk we had enough radiant damage to keep him from regenerating. And his legendary actions don't help him escape from being pinned to the ground by an angry Barbarian, since he can only mist form on his own turn, and which uses an action. It was very touch and go for several rounds, but after he was pinned we had a round where we could all just wail on him, which is where we got through the bulk of his HP.
@@kyleweir689 No, the Barbarian got charmed at first. I honestly thought it would be a TPK for a bit since Strahd repeatedly passed his concentration checks and our maximum HP was going down fast from his vampire powers, but once the charm finally ended, then the Barbarian pinned him down. As for the 50 temp HP, I don't know how the DM handled that. I wasn't keeping track of the damage numbers so I'm not sure exactly how much damage we did to him before he fled, but I know it was quite a bit.
