      Not as bad as the people who go from a junk food diet to a carnivore diet and write comments like, “I will be glad when oxalate shedding is over from all the spinach and kale I have eaten”. Yeah right, a) it’s not a thing AND b) you haven’t eaten kale, ever (you might have eaten a spinach leaf in a restaurant salad garnish by accident, once)

    • @TuftyVFTA
      @TuftyVFTA 8 місяців тому +11

      Yeah, this is one of the biggest problems AR Activists have. The word 'Vegan'
      If 1000 people say confidently that the word 'Vegan' means eating plant food for our personal health or for the environment, for every 1 that says "But it's not about your health or our environment it's about animal rights" Then it's really going to be an almost impossible road.
      That's why I'm starting to use the 'V' word a lot less and starting to use 'Sentientist' to describe my chosen lifestyle.
      A sentientist is by definition an anti-speciesist and a vegan, but the word people will see and hear is SENTIENTist. ALL ABOUT SENTIENT BEINGS.
      With that message up-front and clear, sure we can then go on to talk about what we choose to eat, and why.
      The word 'Vegan' is just too damaged and corrupted now. I think as long as we remain determined to stick with the word 'Vegan' sadly we will continue to get swamped, by misunderstanding and corrupted distorted meanings of the word.

    Anyone new to Joey's activism, please note that, this man has actual experience on farms and slaughterhouses. He has seen and experienced first hand the kind of stuff most would turn away from. His recent investigation into a large multi location turkey/chicken/duck producer, of which probably supplied your own xmas turkey, was a true shocker. His experience on the farms, and discussing the lack of welfare with major supermarkets was indeed something that needed to be done., and I think we all should be thankful for anyone who exposes such animal horrors. How would we have known about the terrible suffering of these "xmas birds" if Joey had not done this investigation? Joey has his own UA-cam channel and is on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter.. I would urge anyone who is interested in making a stand against the abuse and suffering encountered by these animals and birds, to have a look. He walks the walk as they say.

      When I do outreach, I leave off the synthetic supplement recommendations because it only confuses non-vegans. Why would they need a pill just because they stopped eating meat? It makes no sense. My whole foods plant-based diet of soaked & home-cooked lentils, peas & beans, fruits, dark leafy greens, vegetables is loaded with real B vitamins and every single nutrient, and it supplies plenty of natural & healthy beneficial gut bacteria.
      B12 pills aren't even in the B-complex group, they're not even a vitamin, they're just genetically engineered bacteria made in drug labs. If you're wondering why there's so much fearmongering about B12 the past couple decades it's because it's a highly lucrative business and fear sells.

    The reporter was so typical, you rightly stated veganism is NOT a diet but and ethical stance against animal exploitation, yet she kept saying it was a diet, even at the end, she said she tried veganism for a week, NO SHE DID NOT, she maybe ate plant based for a week but that's NOT vegan. The way I address people talking about youtubers who go back to eating animal flesh is that they were never vegan they simply ate plant based which is a diet, and like many diets they tend to fail. People who go vegan for the animals and ethics do not go back to eating animals. I have been an ethical vegan since January 1, 2010 so I am in my 15th year as an ethical vegan, vegan for life! Joey and Ed are great voices for veganism, taking the torch from Gary Yourofsky!

      I so agree with you. And those big supermarkets and all the accreditations they boast of!!! The Red Tractor Assured labels and RSPCA Assured labels. Its Rubbish!. I watched Hogwood too, about the terrible sickening abuse the thousands of pigs endured! (The farms closed after it was all exposed). But Hogwood on UA-cam is another big expose of how the system and all the inspectors rally together to keep things well hidden from the public. The Hogwood documentary took a long while to make and the pig farm concerned supplied TESCO (who refused to believe or acknowledge any of the undercover investigation, even though it was actual film footage!) I remember, on a facebook posts, I commented that the police were complicit by not arresting those farmers and farm hands who were responsible for the suffering, and a policeman did reply to me on Messenger and told how he had been active in numerous other problems with farm animals, which he had to involve RSPCA ... Until people start digging, they will never know the full extent. Sainsbury's shocked me when they said they would take onboard the undercover investigations which were done on these bird farms a few years back - back have, it seems, STILL been getting their turkeys from this same supplier, which Joey exposed in December!!! They all have no shame. Its a terrible cruel industry which people are being brainwashed into believing is some caring, humane, welfare assured farm! Far from it. I am sure you will find strength to campaign for a better world for animals. You haven't said you are vegan, but your compassion sounds like you are a true animal lover and would want to do what is right by them. I agree - The BBC needs to do another farming expose. They did it with cows and dairy, now we need to see the other farmed animals and what really goes on.

    • @jademelinlo
      @jademelinlo 8 місяців тому

      I'm not sure I follow about the utilitarian approach. The billions and billions of animals are just as equal as us and they outnumber us tremendously - to reduce the overall suffering IS to reduce theirs.
      Nonetheless Joey is very direct but also inspiring, informative, and persuasive - and just an overall professional within this passion we all share. He's incredibly effective.

    • @FriedZime
      @FriedZime 8 місяців тому

      @@jademelinlo Utilitarianism states that one should do the action that maximizes utility. Utility is most often understood in hedonistic terms, that is maximizing pleasure and minimizing pain/suffering.
      The problem with utilitarianism is that it can lead to some counter intuitive conlusions. For instance, it can lead to the conclusion that hunting and killing animals is not only permissible, but the right thing to do in many more cases than most vegans would find intuitive. This because it can be less suffering if one kills one animals painlessly than if one buys plant foods in the supermarket that has caused at least some deaths in the harvesting of crops etc.
      If one instead holds that animals have rights, such as the right to life, then hunting becomes impermissible. And the animals that die in crop production are not right violations because those deaths are (i) unintentional, or (ii) intentional but to protect one's food source and therefore not a rights violation (just like self defence against another human is not a rights violation).

    • @jademelinlo
      @jademelinlo 8 місяців тому +1

      Quick search "utilitarianism is a family of normative ethical theories that prescribe actions that maximize happiness and well-being for the affected individuals. In other words, utilitarian ideas encourage actions that ensure the greatest good for the greatest number."
      This is regarding both the act itself and the consequence or result of the act. Utilitarianism is on the side of veganism and the > 80 BILLION animals affected globally each year. I'm not going to argue about this because I find it purposeless and doesn't further the cause, rather its an intellectual exercise that doesn't help the animals who are still very real victims. If you're a vegan I support you though and I think you're very intelligent! Just focusing this year and every year on lessening the amount of animal victims around the world.

      @@jademelinlo A small correction in what you wrote. Utilitarianism is a consequentialist theory, meaning that it is ONLY the consequences of actions that matter. There are therefore NO intrinsically bad actions according to utilitarianism. Some actions most often lead to overall negative consequences however, like murder for instance. But in some circumstances murder could be permissible, or even obligatory according to this most common form of utilitarianism, what is know as "act utilitarianism". You can appeal to another form of utilitarianism to try to get around these sorts of cases, "rule utilitarianism", where you should act according to rules that increases utility for the society as a whole, in contrast to every case for itself like in "act utilitarianism". But every form of utilitarianism is exclusively concerned with the consequences of actions, in contrast to deontological theories, which instead is concerned with actions themselves being good or bad becuase they violate inherent rights etc.
      But yes, the most important thing for the vegan movement is probably not having a discussion about which ethical theory is the correct one. Rather, the important thing is to include non-humans in our MORAL SCOPE, that is, to grant these beings moral status whose interest should be taken into account when we act in our daily lives.

    When people have the mindset veganism is anything but about animal rights, they reject the actual definition of Veganism & substitute it for their own thoughts/feelings/personal gain. She is doing what companies did to the term vegetarian, to make people more relaxed about things that may contain dairy & egg, to straight up adding it & people accepting it because the term was bulldozed just the same as they are trying to do to Vegan/Veganism. Her exact behaviour is what forced people to very definitively define from personal diet or anything else but Animal Rights. Whenever you hear this argument/someone isn't listening to you/is inputting their own opinion on a defined word instead of using the word as defined, stop all conversation until they understand you cannot claim Vegan/Veganism unless that is why you are Vegan - for the animals, for their rights to their own bodily autonomy. Anything else is called plant-based or vegetarian, or simply does not fit the definition of Vegan. Any time someone says vegan diet & they aren't vegan but eat plant based, but still buy leather/go to zoos/pay for or participate in any animal exploitation, they aren't Vegan, they are plant based or what the original term for vegetarian was closer to/actually meant, before it was changed to fit people's personal narratives, instead of being about the animals.

    Steve Miller was one of my trainers many years ago at Heart of Birmingham primary care trust. He was brilliant and inspirational and I was gutted when he moved on to other things. He would be a fantastic advocate for veganism. Take the step, Steve. Please. X
