People have been saying SEO was going to die off and on for years - nothing new. It has changed throughout the years and it's doing so now. Search won't die. Seach is a $200 billion goldmine for Google with its ad platform - SEO will also still be a factor in that evolution. All the AI discussion is not as relevant for local search either - trying to find a restaurant near you, or any other retail business, or getting driving directions - people will still want to see those results, the reviews, the images of the businesses, etc. The landscape is changing, and SGE (search generative experience) is changing things, but now we look at ways to get into SGE recommendations, but SEO is definitely not going to go away.

Also... ChatGPT says so much crap... many answers are jumbled up, grossly incomplete, or straight up incorrect. I once asked it to calculate the odds of winning first and second prizes in euromillions, and although it calculated first prize correctly quite easily, it took me forever to get to a prompt to make it calculate 2nd prize (and it never factored in that if you win 1st, you don't win 2nd also). Sometimes it just ended up saying 0 (fair in practical terms, but mathematically incorrect 😂). You'd think that it would at least be good at math/statiscitcs... So the issue is, that often if you don't know the answer already, you'll just get incorrect data. This was with GPT4, btw. A human would never say such crap...
You have it correct AI is not a brain. AT&T is all over AI tried to get some help on an issue that is a little complex and it could not provide an answer. It just kept giving me junk responses. If I had known, I could not get to a person with a brain I would not have changed to AT&T. I finally called the guy that did the installation and received the help I needed which was simply asking if the system could do what I wanted the answer was no. That is all I wanted to know. AI can do a lot but you still need a brain if you are going to relate to humans.
