Is this town cheap to live in or are these one of those retirement type towns where if you wanna live you you're going need to be someone who's already well off and doesn't need to work? This place interests me for the sake of moving somewhere secluded.
Point Roberts WA is a very unique place, and it can feel secluded. There are not many jobs in Point Roberts, as it is only about 4-5 square miles in area. Most of the residents either are retires, work from home, are dual US-Canadian citizens who work in Canada just to the north, and there are a few who do commute to the mainland part of the US for work.
I visited this place as a kid, about 30-40 years ago... would like drive up to there again, but seems the border agents on both sides always hassle me with nit-picking questions about my visit.
@@livinginbellinghamwashington Yeah, I'm talking about the Blaine and Hwy 539 border crossing. Driving up I-5 to BC crossing, the agent would ask me questions where I'm going, what I'm doing, even if I have a motel/hotel to stay in... even though I just said I'm just "visiting" and not sure if I'd stay the night or not... like probing questions... I'm just doing a road trip and I dont know where'd I'm going and if I stay the night etc.. it's an ad-hoc road-trip.. so why do these border agents expect that I know my itinerary to tell them, even though I dont know myself.. it's these types of nit-pick questions that bothers me...
@@be236 Yeah, if you're not a Canadian citizen (as stated roughly half of people living in PR are Duals) then unless you get a Nexus card you will need to deal with the hassle of "entering Canada." They don't care that you are going right back into the U.S. You are entering a foreign country and every time it will come with all the bullshit you mentioned. Same for Canadians just trying to go to the beach in the summer in their car at Point Roberts. U.S. border guards will DRILL them questions and the laughable part is, where could the Canadians drive to in the United States if they cross into Point Roberts??? Nowhere! It's ocean on 3 sides. There's no access to any other part of the U.S. But those border guards take their jobs very seriously. It might be fun to go there and watch a sunset, but that's it.
@be236 all the borders are like that. Try the south border they assume every one is trying to illegally smuggle something even though the dogs don't smell anything. It's so bad you want to sue every time you go 😢
I am not aware of any work office space that is for rent in Point Roberts. If anyone is reading this and knows of an option, please feel free to chime in.
Electricity is provided by PSE (Puget Sound Energy), but the actual electricity is purchased from BC Hydro Authority. Pt Roberts does have a fire station and EMT is typically provided by helicopter from St Joseph’s Hospital in Bellingham. Delta BC often assists with emergency calls as well, and their long-standing cooperation with the Pt Roberts is a great asset to the community. Sewer is typically septic systems except a few areas near the marina.
Pt. Robert’s has a fire station that is staffed 24/7 by professional firefighters and sometimes a paramedic. I know the fire chief, he and his crew are top notch.
The most common way to get to point Roberts is driving north on I five and cross the border into Canada and then continue on the highway around to the west and back down through the town of Sassan, then you cross the border back into the United States at point, Roberts. It is about a 40 minute drive from the mainland of the USA. Most people have a Nexus card so they can take the fast lanes through the border crossings.
I am sure you could get a ferry from point Roberts to Birch Bay. And there is also a small airstrip in point Roberts, but I do not know if San Juan Airlines services that regularly.
Thanks Dale very interesting video. Considering this as a possible early retirement location. Are many homes in HOA or are there some without HOA in PR ?
Thanks for watching the Point Roberts video. Not all homes are part of an HOA, but all property in Point Roberts is subject to the Whatcom Count Special District Amendments that dictates many way property can and cannot be used. I would be happy to email you the PDF if you want to contact me.
If you have kids, there’s no school and they’ll need to be bussed out (and back) to the town of Blaine. Also means they need to go through border checks. Don’t you just love bureaucracy!
Like so many places in the United States, there are more and more rules being instituted. Some are good, and others think some are bad. I guess you just have to do the old Ben Franklin and compare the pros and cons.
There is a very diverse group of people living in the Bellingham area. I think you will find people from all different points of views, backgrounds, and political leanings. It makes for a great intellectual location, as well as a beautiful location to live.

Point Roberts just got a VHS copy of Arthur 2 On The Rocks starring Dudley Moore. Darren has it in the office of the supermarket
Great News!
Pretty cool spot. Looking at some land there soon

The border crossing at Point Roberts is the most chill in all Whatcom County. No long waits. Just answer their questions and you’ll be fine.

Hi Dale, great video. Is there a work office space in point Robert’s which we can book for months for weekdays?
I am not aware of any work office space that is for rent in Point Roberts. If anyone is reading this and knows of an option, please feel free to chime in.
Good job. Thank you. 😊
Thank you for the feedback. Do you live in the area?
How do emergency services and utilities work in Point Roberts?

@@PeteHoleman thanks for this great info. Have they had a fire station for a long time? Or is that a recent addition?
Is there a police dept there? I would hope/think so?

can you hire a water taxi or a ferry to birch bay ? or book a flight through san juan airline ?
am asking the same thing but apparently no one has a clear answer

Can we bring our dogs and cats?
Do yall have a railroad?
If your from the united states is the only way to get there by airplane? Also do ya’ll get hit with hurricanes like Galveston or Florida?
Hurricanes not really. To get there you can drive through Canada.
If you have kids, there’s no school and they’ll need to be bussed out (and back) to the town of Blaine. Also means they need to go through border checks. Don’t you just love bureaucracy!
Yes, kids in school is not convenient if you live in Pt Roberts. I’m sure the school bus gets through the border crossing pretty fast though.
Wow so do the kids on the school bus need to carry passport or passport cards with them at all times?
I understand a lot of kids go to school in Canada and pay for private school there.
Loved the Michelle Visage easter egg.
Please do explain??? 🤔
The second one 😊🎉🎉❤❤❤ please
Oops. You lost me with HOA....
Like so many places in the United States, there are more and more rules being instituted. Some are good, and others think some are bad. I guess you just have to do the old Ben Franklin and compare the pros and cons.
Safe community, but you do give up lots of freedom.
Move around so we can see.
