I've been impressed with mine. Got the 2-channel a month ago, preempt off of Marantz. Getting 320 Watts before Distortion at 40 Hertz, 308w at 1 khz and 288w at 4khz before distortion. The fan in it is not loud but I would think could be redesigned to be even quieter, however that might not matter given that it only turns on when driving hard and you won't hear it over the speakers at that point anyway. It runs for a minute or two after turning it down but not a big deal I love the minimalist front panel
A higher end dedicated preamp (with or w/o dac dont matter) for stereo listening would be awesome. With Balanced outputs for compatibility with those 300w monoblocks. Booyah. Id buy that hands down.
I purchased my BasX A 100 new from Emotiva during the summer. That same day I went back to the Website to look at some other Emotiva products and noticed that you could no longer buy a new one. Either the company only had a handful of A100's left, or consumers who wanted an A 100 found out it was being discontinued, and cleaned out the remaining supply of these amplifiers. I am just glad I was able to purchase one for $199.99 with a 5 year factory warranty. I am still waiting to see if Emotiva is going to offer a new dedicated headphone amplifier in their new BasX lineup.
I have been waiting for a balance input (XLR) amp to power my 4 in ceiling Atmos speakers.I was really hoping Emotiva would have upgraded their BASX amps with balanced XLR
@@brad6200 If your processor only has balanced connections, then you could use an RCA to XLR adapter to make the connection. For Atmos channel's, you don't really need fully balanced since they are just doing atmospheric playback. Sorry you took offense explaining that if you wanted balanced connections on the amp, you would need to go up a level to the XPA amps.
@@EmotivaAudioCorp You should use a DI BOX instead. You feed an unbalanced signal into it and it gives you a balanced out via XLR and/or TRS. You usually cannot feed it RCA, so you need an RCA to TS jack converter cable first, then the DI Box.

Absolutely the A2 would be perfect to power your bookshelves and still have enough power if you ever decide to upgrade to towers. For a subwoofer you would need a preamp to go along with your system to control the volume and manage the sub.

I heard a lot of bad reviews about Emotiva amplifiers,, These reviews were from 2015.. I just wanted to know has Emotiva upgraded their spec since then.
There are thousands of great reviews on our amps. I know some people scoffed at our Gen3 design but that has been a massively popular amplifier series for us!

Please add bridgeable-Mono capability to the A2mini, and increase the power a little bit to 85Wpc into 8ohm speakers. That way there is an upgrade path getting a second A2mini instead of having to change the amplifier to a different one.
Hi. Could you please make in next BasX generation: a) 8-ch amplifier to power 9.x.6 setup with 7+8 amps or b) even 9-ch amplifier to power base layer in 9.x.6 setup with possibility to switch off (in movies without Atmos/DTS:X) height speakers, powered with 6-ch amp ?
You can always mix & match smaller amps in a modular configuration. Remember: the fewer the channels, the more WPC you get. In your case, you may get A3 to power your LCR and A4 to drive your surrounds. Leave the rest to the AVR.

If it makes you feel any better, I just got the same model not too long ago. One thing I have always wondered about, is how would the sound be different if I was using a 2 channel XPA which costs a lot more money, vs the A300? I use it mostly for music, and only occasionally movies. I don't blast my music, but I wonder what the difference in sound quality would be, and if that difference is worth the extra money for an XPA amp. Wish I could try them side by side, cause no need to spend the extra on XPA if it doesn't sound different to my ears. I wish I had a better understanding of amplifiers in general too, it's hard to know what to buy. Overall, I am happy with my A300 for now.
@@petef.4361 I tried xpa after good experience with A300. Ended up returning xpa because was getting strange sound anomalies with my main speakers. Now I moved on to amp x10 the price of A300, but still hold fond memories. For movies it is safe to stay with A300 for life, for music it depends on personal taste.
I can see where on the surface the A-300 looks better - but the truth is slightly more complex. While the A-300 had really good dynamic characteristics, and could deliver 300 watts when asked to do so, we beefed up the power supply in the A2 to be capable of supplying a great deal more current. The transformer in the A-300 ran at a slightly higher voltage than the one in the new A2 - but wasn't able to sustain it's full output for as long. The new power supply is built more like those in our XPA Gen2 amps - which means that it is designed specifically to have the capability to deliver high current for sustained periods of time. As a result of the additional copper in the transformer, and bigger filter capacitors, the rail voltages that power the audio stages in the A2 are much stiffer than on the previous model, even though they operate at a slightly lower voltage. This enables the A2 to sustain it's full power output for longer than its cousin the A-300 - especially with 4 Ohm speaker loads. What this means is that, in real world applications, the A2 is able to deliver a more true to life listening experience. Explosions, and other sounds requiring significant sustained bass output, will have greater impact and sound more solid. This may not show up in the power ratings - but the improvement is clearly audible when you listen to the amp.
