- Avelino "SAMBOY" Lim, Jr. topscored for 22 points during this game: The Phils. National Team against Malaysia during the 10th Seoul Asiad or 1986 Asian Games. Coached by Joe Lipa and included basketball greats Alvin Patrimonio, Allan Caidic, Ronnie Magsanoc, Jerry Codinera and others, this 1986 RP basketball team brought home the Bronze medal.
eto lang ang basketball player na talagang tinutukan ko, so exciting to watch, napakahumble pa hindi kagaya ng ibang pba players noon, Samboy Lim in my opinion is the best filipino basketball player of all times

I played with and against Samboy at the Letran gym and the gym rats that live there. Very humble guy with a great sense of humor. Can dunk two b-balls in one jump. Very strong grip. Samboy had a fantastic work ethic and made sure he was always in great shape. His weakness was the chicks. Can’t blame him.
My goal and consuming passion, is to archive some of the games of my idol Samboy Lim, who I believe, is one of the best, ever to play in the PBA. I want to preserve the memories of those daredevil and acrobatic shots - which were "magically delicious", not just for those fans who witnessed his skywalking, but more importantly, for the present and the future generations

i remember when i was growing up in the 80s in paranaque, Samboy Lim was the byword among the kids in the neighborhood ...every kid who put on a sneaker would want to be like Samboy Lim....

Galing mo tlga IDOL.......pangarap ko na maka pag pa picture man lng tayo at makita sa malapitan.maliit pa lng ako noon nakikita at naririnig ko na yong panagaln the dragon at skywalker sabi ni kintanar hawak pa lng bola excitement na agad mga tao dhil sa iyong galaw sa hard court at di ko nakitang umangal sa ref..kaya ikaw lng naka kuha ng sportsmanship award.

1986... Philippine Team was still composed of all amateur players. It was only the next Asian games that pros were allowed to play.

@junjorxful as i remember. nanalo tayo ng bronze nung 1998.. when tim cone coached the centennial team. composed of patrimonio, meneses, johnny a, lastimosa, caidic, etc. but they're still not the pba stars of today.. so mukhang tama nga na the batch of 2000's still has to prove about their abilities in internayional competition.
