    I live in NYC and I rarely find gardeners on UA-cam in this climate. Many of them live in the south so I can’t grow a lot of what they show. Love this channel! ❤️

    Over plant and use Sluggo heavily for those pesky slugs! By the way, you don’t need to cover your garden unless it’s at freezing temps, around 36. Even so, plants can spring back from a light frost. Temps in the 40s won’t cause any damage because there won’t be any frost.

    • @SunshineFarm

      Hi! In my experience covering helps the heat loving plants stay warm. I’m not so much worried about freezing as I am about stressing out the plants. Basil also hates the cold and will be damaged even under 45. And actually our basil did show signs of damage unfortunately 😢
      But of course frost is a bigger issue, thankfully we didn’t have an actual frost!!

      @@SunshineFarm, Sweet, Genovese, or Sweet Basil is so prolific a dip in temps into the low 40's, even upper 30's, won't affect it long-term. While no harm in covering some of it up, your garden will do just FINE w/ temps dipping the low. Though, if temps hang low for days plants will sulk & not grow at all till it warms up again.

    Everything looks great! I’m always interested in food forests because they vary so much based on region. Also that giant artichoke 😍

      Thank you! Yes food forests are so cool and varied. I don’t see a lot of them in northern climates

    Your garden looks amazing giving me lots of inspiration. I cant wait to see it as the weeks go on. You can see so much hard work and time has gone into it. I'm not sure if you've heard of an organic slug pellet called Neudorff. Its active ingredient is an iron compound which naturally occurs in nature. Its also safe for pets and wildlife. This is my first year using it and so far so good. Another one too try are wool pellets I'm not sure how well these work but have heard good things about them.

    • @SunshineFarm
      @SunshineFarm  3 роки тому

      Thank you so much!! Yes, we actually have been using an organic pellet to see if it helps. We just have such an overwhelming slug population.

    We’re doing something similar...trying all different methods in one year. We’re waiting for everything to come up before we do a tour. So pretty to see your garden already green and growing 😍 oooh your spinach looks soooo good!

    We have gypsy moths everywhere this year, and last year. But this year I started spraying BT on my stuff to take care of it before they do too much damage. Plus, I really don't want to scrape off the egg masses again in the fall. That was so gross.

    • @SunshineFarm
      @SunshineFarm  3 роки тому

      Yuckkkk!! I sprayed the tree and the surrounding affected areas with BT as well. Fingers crossed it makes a dent in the population. I know they’re super invasive and not native to this area so I know it’s a good thing to manage them as best as possible

    I'm obsessed with your garden, this is absolute goals!
    What sort of peas are those with the purple flowers, please? Are they golden? They look like some I'm growing at the moment.
    I've had so many problems with slugs and I've found beer traps work amazingly here.

    • @SunshineFarm

      💛💛 I think they are a golden type! I bought them in bulk I believe from johnnys seeds.

    Hey you’re in NY, a little north of me. Have y’all ever dealt with Psyllids. Mainly on tomatoes peppers or potatoes? We have basically had 90% of our tomatoes decimated by pest damage. I originally had thought what I was dealing with was aphids but upon further inspection of the damage and the disorder I guess you could say that it caused the tomato plants, most master gardeners or people I’ve consulted online have landed on the psyllid. So I’ve been asking around to other New Yorker gardeners and homesteaders or people growing on their property if they have dealt with his past or if they have ever seen “Psyllid yellows” disease on your tomatoes. Most of the information online is for gardeners out west where they deal with it on their tomatoes and potatoes really bad. But we do have them geographically in the Northeast, but I feel like it’s something that nobody talks about so anyways anyone in the chat this is open to that’s in the north East or to Jen

    • @SunshineFarm
      @SunshineFarm  3 роки тому +1

      Hi! I have not dealt with them, that I know of. But we have had yellowing potato plants prematurely, so it’s possible! Have you looked into spinosad? I was reading that it’s effective and it’s an organic spray you could try!

    • @freelivingtennessee
      @freelivingtennessee 3 роки тому

      @@SunshineFarm I just got some name oil in the mail, and I was reading that’s been a sad is really effective on them so my husband was going to order it for us and give it a try I didn’t know that you could use it organically which is awesome so thank you for that tip and yeah it’s pretty crazy I’ve never seen this on tomatoes and it’s stunted almost all of them so I’m about to head to the nursery to buy some more and we’re just gonna rip them out and try again. I did visit my sisters garden which is about an hour away from me yesterday, and I grew all of her plant starts for her and her garden looks lush and amazing, so while it was bittersweet I was happy to know that it wasn’t my growing or seed starting that set me back and it was just the unfortunate cruel mistress of nature lol

    • @SunshineFarm
      @SunshineFarm  3 роки тому

      Nature can definitely be cruel! I’m sorry about your tomatoes. I would definitely use spinosad maybe preventatively with your new plants since the pest is likely still hanging out
