I guess people are different. I havent changed my prescription in 4 years. (and yes I have checked my eyes).

I think it maybe depends on what type of eye problems you have. They told me that my astigmatism probably wont change in my life time. But my eyesight will get worse from aging etc.

I'm don't like sunglasses over glasses because it's not comfortable and more work. Not comfortable because it more than doubles the weight on my nose. My nose gets oily and my glasses tend to slide off. Even more so when I add more weight. Having two arms on each ear is also not comfortable. It's even worse if you have hearing aids or a wide head. It's more work because you have to ensure both glasses are clean. You spend more time trying to figure out which glasses are the ones that need cleaning. Trying to make them comfortable sometimes causes accidental smudging and your back to cleaning them again. A cheap pair of prescription sunglasses at Zenni Optical will cost about twice that of over-the-glasses sunglasses. Any glasses are going to have a lifespan because of scratching or use in general.

The "best" and most expensive transitions do "not" become "sunglasses" they merely tint.

They don't really work when driving because in a car you are not in direct sunlight. That's why I didn't get transitions.

1. It is expensive, but there are photochromic lenses that becoming category 3 sunglasses. Not just tint.
2. There are photochromic lenses that became dark even inside car.
