The vision of the people falling or jumping from the windows of the Towers, is burned into my memory forever.
I consider Jackson a living legend, his catalogue is full of great, meaningful, traditional country music. I would love to see more reactions to his music.
This song still gets to me today. I wish we as Americans could come together like we did then. It didn't matter your skin color, we were united to defend our country against an evil that wanted to destroy us that day.
That day we were all Americans 🇺🇸
its like everyone has forgotten that now.... i am afraid that we will have another one soon but with our current leaders the reaction will not be the same..... sad to say
Sadly that’s the last time this country was ever really united, sadly.
I remember that unity; it was a very strong bond!!
I would argue 2011 was truly the last time. When we got bin laden the whole country celebrated. It was all downhill from there
And the true fear is if it took something like that for us to be United as one for such a short time, what will it take to unite us all forever? And how many if us will survive it to even count as all of us?
😭 so true
The only time you mean
This song captures the feelings of those days... better than anything I have ever seen or heard.
When he first sang this song it was at the CMA'S and it had not been recorded yet. It was an instant number one hit on every radio station in the country no mater the genre. After that any profit he made from it went to the survivors of 9/11.
I even remember hearing it on a rap radio station almost every day for weeks post 9/11.
I was in 6th grade. Tuesdays where current events day in the morning. This time it became all day. I had also just visited New York City 2 weeks before. I went with my dad to visit an old friend who worked in the North Tower. He passed on 9/11. Almost 20 years later and I'll never forget
I still cry every time I hear this.
I remember the silence of no airplanes after that. It was eerie
It was super scary and eerie especially if you lived in the area.
I still feel weird when I see a plane flying low
I saw two fighter jets but otherwise the sky was silent. It was very odd.
I cried and prayed. I was so sad and mad at the same time. Wanted to help rescue those still trapped, also wanted justice for ALL of the victims alive and dead. All I could do is pray. Thank you to the first responders and everyone who pulled together to save as many as possible. God bless America and the American people.
That stirs so many memories and emotions! It is a truely, amazingly incredible song.
I remember watching him perform it on the awards show. It was like someone put a huge Band Aid over our hurts. I think it helped us heal.
He wasn't going to share it, because he didn't want to be taking advantage. Fortunately, his wife and others told him it needed to be heard!
What did you think of the song??
Almost 20 years later, I still get so emotional when I think of that day. Ironically I was watching BBC morning news on BBC America as it happened. They were in just as much shock as we were. And no I didn't get much sleep that night at all....God Bless you all and God Bless America
Thank you 🇺🇸🇬🇧
9/11, as well as April 19 (OKC bombing) will forever be etched into my memory - time stood still - every detail from where I was to what I was was wearing, what I was seeing, hearing and smelling. This song is beautiful!
You definitely need to do more Alan Jackson songs he has so many great hits.
"Remember when" is an incredible song! Should do that.
Yes… and some fun ones, too!
@@G-grandma_Army Yes!!! Like the official video for, "Chattahoochee"! 😉
Alan Jackson Remember when is another song you need to react to.
I remember I was in band class grade 6 and Mr. McDaniel walked in and started his lesson on G scales..! ...the Principal came over the PA... He told all teachers to pause their lesson and take a call.
Mr. McDaniel did so...
Then he came back out of his office and rolled the TV out.
I'll never forget it.
I am an American great grandmother...I was at work when we were attacked. To this day I still cry when these songs are played. I also cry at the National Anthem. I can't even sing along due to the tears.
My wife's mother was flying from Prague to Chicago that day to visit us...she was about an hour out from New York from the time...they were diverted, landed and grounded in Newfoundland along with many other US-bound flights.
And naturally we had no real way of knowing what was happening 🥺
Have you seen the documentary with Tom Brokaw about this event? 9/11: Operation Yellow Ribbon (Gander, Newfoundland) by Trabis. So many people are unaware of this amazing story and the part Gander, Newfoundland, (approx 10K residents) played in taking in over 6,600 passengers & crew members when there was a Ground Stop placed on all flights into the U.S. to prevent any additional terrorist attacks on the U.S. 38 commercial flights were diverted to Gander along with a number of military aircraft. Seeing the number of grounded airplanes in this documentary was stunning. Over 250 planes were diverted to various places in Canada. It's a beautiful, uplifting documentary. We saw the worst of humanity & the best of humanity on 9/11. Much respect & thanks to our wonderful, generous, good-hearted neighbors to the north. You have probably seen the documentary since you were affected personally by it, but if not, it is worth watching. Very uplifting story. Restores my faith in humanity that there are more good people in the world than evil.
When I hear about the people who were diverted to Gander it makes me thing od the musical "Come From Away".
I was in front of the twin towers when the first jet hit. Like everyone at first, I thought it was a accident. I watched the brave men run in as people where running out. I stood there till the second jet hit. Then I knew we where under attack. At that moment there was no way out of the city. I have nightmares to this day
Thank god your still with us today you were very brave for standing right by it
I and many of my friends can tell you exactly what we were doing and where we were that day. I’ll never forget.
I still can't comprehend it. I lost my aunt and best friend. It still hurts.
Where I worked, was only about 15 miles from the Pentagon in Washington DC. I saw American airlines flight 77 that crashed into the Pentagon, fly right over our shop. It was so insanely low I didn't think it was going to clear the high-rise buildings that was in it's path. 😔
Hi. What I love about this song is it tells the story of that day, the horror of learning of the three planes n their destruction. He shows America's emotions n actions of Americans over the next few days, giving blood, church attendance, calling your loved ones, appreciating things we otherwise take for granted. A wonderful song for a horrible day. Peace to you and yours
Not trying to be a douche but it was 4 planes:
1. Pentagon
2. Flight 93
3 and 4: Twin towers
People forget about Flight 93 being involved on 9/11 because the passengers overpowered the hijackers flying the plane and it crashed in a field in Pennsylvania before the plane could be used on its target, thus saving countless lives.
What people need to remember is , though it happened on US soil , 78 countries were affected that day . It was an attack on humanity . 🗽💖🗽
I was in Kindergarten at the time. I just remember the teacher hushing everyone and putting the TV on. Then going home early just to see the 2nd plane hit on the news. I didn't quite comprehend what happened until years later. It really was amazing watching the whole world come together in support of the U.S.A. I just wish we could have that togetherness all the time.
I was in kindergarten as well. I just remember how everything was so quiet, it was eerie.
My mother was a young counselor with my 2 year old brother and me. The principal gathered the counselors and teachers that were free and stunned asked what do we do. They didn't show anything to the students and tried to have as normal a day as you were going to get. The reason why and my mother made the call was to avoid the Columbia disaster where everyone say it happen live.
Still makes tears pour. 😢
You guys should react to ‘Boatlift’ it is amazing to say the least. One of the best stories from that day I’ve ever heard 👍🏻Definitely worth the watch blokes😉
Amazed how some people are so talented and creative they come up with something so meaningful. Found it interesting that he wrote the song the night of the 11th.
A humorous song along with the story behind it that might find interesting is Vince Gill's "It's hard to kiss the lips at night that chew your ass out all day long"
I was on board the USS Enterprise. We had just left Dubai and we where headed to South Africa, about 10 hours away from crossing the equator when 9/11 happened. You could feel the ship make a U-turn and back to the gulf we went. Sat and did figure 8's waiting for instructions. We then "lit up their world like the 4th of July" A time that I will never forget!
This was a surreal day. I still have The visuals of people jumping to their deaths rather than being burned alive and thinking how scared they must have been. I was shocked it happened, but I wasn't surprised. (If that makes sense). I remember everything about that day. I was getting ready for school (I had a dentist appointment and was going to be going to school right after). I went to school and we had a discussion about it and I found it more shocking that no one in the room besides me had ever anticipated this happening to us. Even as a young person I felt it was only a matter of time before something like this happened to the US.
This song means allot to me because I was helping people in Virgina Hospital Center were I was working. People came from the Pentongon to the hospital.. When I heard that sound that day and everything shaking that day. I worked there 23 year and I never seen anything as bad as that..
I still cry when I hear this song. 😭I was driving on freeway, taking daughter to school,I froze up hearing,on the radio.
Ill remember that day for the rest of my life
Love Alan. He has many great songs. Drive, The Sounds, Living on Love, Where I come from
A day us Americans will never forget
I was in the Army stationed in Germany when the attacks occurred
The events of that day and the months to follow will always be etched in my memories
Hard to believe this tragedy happened 22 years ago and this song is played every 9/11 on the radio thank you Alan Jackson for such a beautiful song
His song “ladder to heaven” is also really iconic 😂😂😂
I was about to turn 11 and my sister was about to turn 8 and we woke up to hearing my dad upset and my mom crying. By the time we walked in the living room to see what was going on we saw the 2nd tower get hit. I'm about to turn 31 and my sister 28, Never will forget that day.
It ain't been the same ever since , I was in 2nd grade in rural PA. an I will never forget this time 😭
I was in the 6th grade. Computer class. My teacher had tvs everywhere and when I saw it... I thought it was a movie trailer for a second. Then it set in. About 20 minutes my mom came to get me.
One of the most emotional moments in my life!
I watched the towers build from my bedroom in n.j., a n d I watched them burn down from the same window. Still have p.t.s.d.
🙏🙏🙏
Yes I still cry we I hear this song
I was under the Brooklyn bridge as a truck driver Sep 10 eh 2001, I woke up and luckily got to New jersey, I stopped at a target and watched it with people on the TV's that were displayed,,then we knew!
When the 2nd Tower got hit I knew we were attacked
Surely you've reacted to "courtesy of the red white and blue' after this. This is how we felt initially but the song I mentioned was how we felt when the smoke cleared.
You know, Alan Jackson didn't want to record this song originally. He basically wrote it as a form of catharsis with no intention of actually recording it. It was fellow singer Vince Gill who convinced him to record it.
I was in the first grade when it happened, my parents were at work. School shut down, my grandparents came to get me as traffic was so bad my parents couldn’t get to me. We had no clue what was happening, we were scared and it was a huge panic because we really thought it was going to be a war here.
Beautiful song from Pa had heroes who saved alot of lives that day losing their own lives
I remember I was at work. I was in the break room. I went the next day to the recruiters.
Wow...to hear your reaction just show the reason that evil cannot overtake good. Even though the proximity of the threat our breathern was acute to the reality to threat of our freedom!
I live close to a U.S.Air Force base. That day when all commercial flights had been forced to land, there a mass of Air Force planes went up.
America is so big economically; military, and culture/media I just like seeing how other countries look at it. It’s everyday normal here but there’s not other place in the world like us
I was in high school. We heard it on the news on the way to school. We all raced to our first classes to see the news. I remember holding my best friends hand and crying when the second plane hit and the buildings fell. No student said much of anything the whole day, we were in too much shock.
I will never forget that day. My daughter was at school in kindergarten. I went to pick her up early because I just wanted to be with her. Everything changed that day. Things would not be what they are today if that had not happened. Sad sad day for America. The whole world really.
I was with my girl and are kids had gone school i when saw the plains hit the towers, the day after was my sisters birthday and wished her a happy birthday! and she sais some birthday! I felt so bad!
Alan wrote this song in one night, he couldn't sleep because words kept running through his head. he performed it live at the cma's before it was even recorded
I can't remember if I was awake or asleep when the second plane hit the WTC but when I went downstairs my mom had the tv on and was watching the news
I was 3 with my mom watching an older lady and my mom was crying mind u i was 3 and i came and comphert her i told her dont cry mommy its ok and she told me she was fine
I was six years old and didn’t fully understand. They let all the kids go home from school early and I was excited. But when I got home my mom was crying and it was probably the only time in my life I’ve seen my dad looked scared. My mom explained what happened, but all I could grasp was that a plane had crashed and that a lot of people must have been hurt. My grandfather was actually working at the Pentagon and Mom was praying and made us kids pray that nothing more would happen and he would stay safe.
I think as a kid all you could grasp was that something terrible had happened. The next year in school we were learning about New York City and our text books still had pictures of the twin towers in them. My teacher cried as she explained how they weren’t there anymore.
Every year after that on 9/11 we went to special church services to remember the dead ( and were super patriotic and honestly kind of scary how they talked about American superiority)
It wasn’t until I was maybe 12 I saw actually footage of the attacks and just the more you learn the sadder it gets.
Plus I grew up listening to songs like this just playing regularly on the radio.
The events of 9/11 had a huge impact on America and was probably the biggest major tragedy of my lifetime. And sadly there have been a whole lot of tragedies in America in the last 20 years alone.
I wonder if it was for the same reason my uncle wasn't in there because he was supposed to be in windows of the world at the same time as you daz but the meeting was moved up a couple days. Cause he worked for st. Peters hospital upstate doing the nano nuclear research and he had a business meeting at that time in the restaurant but like I said it got moved so he wasn't in the building at the time
Story at the end is absolutely amazing! Both incidents the next day? Fate, WOW!
Not a very patriotic man but this song still makes me cry.
I'm not an emotional guy. I rarely show any emotion about anything. It's even more rare for me to actually tear up or cry. However, this song makes my tear ducts leak every time I hear it.
My (now Ex-)wife and I were trying to celebrate our second anniversary that day. I had the day off work because of that so I would not have been at work anyway. Woke up late, that was nice.
When I finally turned on the television I saw Brit Hume saying something about how we had been hit. Oh, boy. That whole time, praying for other people, that there would be few casualties...too late.
Something had been planned just well enough so as to be completely unexpected by 99% of the world. Later on, I heard that the intelligence community knew something about it but those kinds of threats are a regular occurrence so this was ignored. Then it was just too late.
This is why we now have longer and longer waiting times and security has tightened so hard that it is nearly impossible to just go have fun anymore. Only the fabulously wealthy ever really go on vacation these days, because now you have to hire security in order to make sure you don't get kidnapped if you are outside your own country. CRAZY world we lived in before, even worse now.
I live in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and I'm near many bases... PAFB, AFA, Fort Carson, Cheyenne Mountain, etc.
ok to much tear are running!!
I was at home about 20 minutes outside of Boston and woke up to the second plane hitting the second building.me and my wife were waiting for the birth of our daughter she wad born two weeks later. And I was in the same house on the Boston Marathon bombing the marathon goes right in front of our house.
Please also react to United Airlines Flight 93, the flight that fought back. Truly selfless people.
I was 9 when it happened, I arrived at school right before class began, and everyone in the hallways were talking about it. One teacher had a tv in her room and was playing the news to her class. I never understood why it happened, what were the Twin Towers, what was the Pentagon, where Afghanistan was or who was Al-Qaeda. All I know is someone didn't like us and attacked us. That we, the American people, had become comfortable and turned on God, and so, like He did with Israel in ancient times, He left us open for attack. The attack brought us closer, brought many back to God for a time, we were filled with righteous fury and ready to fight. Everyone had an American flag and everyone was there for their neighbor. But I look at us today, 20 years later, and I feel broken hearted for my homeland. Neighbors do not trust neighbor, they are ready to report them for some stupid reason. Race, religion, political affiliation is ripping us apart, the middle class is dying and the rich are getting richer while they laugh at us. Freedoms are disappearing left and right in the name of security. The America of today is not the America of 20 years ago. God forgive us...
As ugly as that was immediately there was the Boat Lift Rescue of 9/11 that restored my faith in humanity and then your queen and all of your countrymen Sung our National anthem 💖 it's like in the darkest of times even the smallest of Lights have a Brilliance to them that you can really see them shine 🥰❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥🇺🇲🎉 God Bless Us All 🕊️💝
I was on the west coast feeling helpless as can be
Awesome reaction guys. I have a request, I'd like to see your reaction to the song I Wish I Knew by Hank Williams the 3rd.
I had left my stepdad's funeral he was a veteran then saw the TV I had two sisters in buildings next to it I called my dad in New Jersey he hant heard from them we waited and waited .... they were on one of the boats taking people off the Island the boat rescue watch that sometime There two towers there were 4 planes the pentagon then the one the Americans on the one plane the brave men on the plane took the terrorists down crashed that one in to a Pennsylvania field . I also had a another brother and sister they were step siblings twins one a police officer one a firefighter He died in the 2nd tower my step sister a police officer she lived she moved to Oklahoma where I'm at today. So I remember well where I was that. I couldn't go there to counsel anyone I was with Red Cross Oklahoma disaster mental health we'd just been through so much in Oklahoma tornados and the Oklahoma City bombing I wasn't scared I was terrified tbh I worked tornados and the bombing in OKC and was so fearful for my siblings .
You should also watch 911 great boat rescue.
Have you guys ever thought about reacting to "The Columbine High School Massacre?" To me its another one of those incidents (like 9/11) where you remember where you were and what you were doing. Just thought it'd be interesting to give y'alls take on it.
Check out the Oklahoma city Bombing in 1995 (before social media)
I live 48 miles from flight 93
Keith Whitley - I'm No Stranger to the Rain - UA-cam
If anyone has a good video about Gander Newfoundland and the part they played on 9/11 that would be a great reaction.
I called my sister.
I cried like a baby the day this came out
369 comments and not one American Flag! 😎🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
"Little Bitty* Alan Jackson
They should react to the highwayman by the highwaymen
Watch "boatlift " please
He wrote this in 30 mins.
That has to be one of best written songs I've ever heard. The thoughtfulness of every line to give the different prospectives and reactions to the same event. All while not focusing on demonizing anyone for the act just love and caring for your fellow man to recover. It is simply a piece of art that still gives my goosebumps to this day.
Well said!
Alan is the real deal. :)
He also reminded us of Gods love and the gift he gave us. Eternity with him if you believe in him ❤️ That lasts longer than what’s down here. This life is fleeting~
This puts into words what I’ve always felt about this song but didn’t know how to say. Thank you.
U know it only took him like 15 to 30 minutes to write it
Hey y'all I just want to say from the bottom of my texas born florida raised heart ty to the United Kingdom for playing the star Spangled banner after this happened at the changing of the guards 💘 y'all will never ever forget that ty again
I remember watching that and sobbing myself sick.
It was a huge comfort but it also confirmed it wasn't a nightmare.
Agreed..well said
I was in the north tower a week before 9/11 just touring nyc with my family. My friends dad was supposed to be on one of those planes but he decided to stay home with his family instead. He keeps his plane ticket in his bathroom mirror to remind himself.
My mother- in-law was in the Pentagon when it happened. Thank goodness she made it out. But she did loss 40 friends. This song really hits home for me.
Just went to an Alan Jackson concert and when he played it may have been the single most moving experience I’ve had at a concert. Crowd just dead silent during, and the cheers afterwards were deafening. I think Alan himself may have teared up
I am a native New Yorker who was living abroad on 9/11 and I lost a family member that day at the World Trade Center. Due to the US airspace being closed, I couldn't return home until 9/20.
Before returning to the US, I was at language school emailing friends and family about the attack and trying to get my return flight date changed. While sitting at a computer, an alarm at the school began to blare. Someone had called in a bomb threat to the school. Everyone -- Americans, other foreigners and native locals--- began to run. Luckily, it was just a sick joke. I saw many women and girls trip and fall due to their high heels while trying to escape the school.
The airport security the day I returned home was insane. Bags were checked at least three times before being able to board any flight heading to the US. I saw a pilot for an American Airline decked out red, white and blue with a necktie of the Statue of Liberty and the WTC in the background. He stood at the door to the jetway watching everyone board his aircraft. Once everyone boarded, he double checked the jetway and entered the plane.
When I landed at Newark Airport in New Jersey, there were cops everywhere with AR15s. My brother told me that it took him an hour just to reach the airport entrance due to the security. Then it took us more than 3 hours to get home to Long Island.
I was born in ‘04 so I’ve only seen videos of 9/11 and it’s terrible I can’t imagine what it was like to witness it in person not only that but to lose a family member I’m sorry for your loss.
@@damonculbert5853 Thanks!
So sorry for your loss- and to be so far away. Cant imagine how long that trip and wait must have felt
@@brittkelly6326 Thank you.
20 years ago, I was 17...and I witnessed my teacher’s reaction to being told that her family member was on 93. I immediately felt her pain and grief and I am just now learning how to cope with it. There were three events that happened at the same time in America that day, and I always feel that 93 gets over looked. However, the story of that flight and the heroes on that flight, changed me for the rest of my life. Please do a reaction to Flight 93 trailer...the A&E version of the movie, not the theatrical. And also do a reaction to Alternate History Hub’s video of what if the 4th plane hit its target. Both videos are full of inspiration and bravery. Thank you.
I was in elementary school in Sarasota, Florida
As an American, I often forget that everyone was just as horrified as we were. My hands are shaking typing this. Your reactions evokes a lot of emotion in side of me, good and bad. you all are so genuine and thank you so much for this, I needed this tonight.
Another interesting one on this theme is when the Buckingham Palace guard played the Star Spangled Banner on parade the next day
I finished this video & went straight to that one, still gets me. 🇬🇧 🤜🤛 🇺🇸
Ya'll are real one's for that. Respect
My daughter was in New York at the time teaching school in Brooklyn, almost everyone student in her class lost someone that day. Traveled across the country shortly after that and the flags were waving everywhere.
I was a high school senior in Queens and my father was FDNY. I spent the night wondering if I’d see him again. Thankfully he made it, but he lost friends, colleagues and family. Most of my friends also lost someone. It was a horrifying time.
I was at my 17 th floor Apt across the street from the Oklahoma City Memorial on Sept 11 on my balcony staring down at the reflecting pool and 168 empty chairs remembering how 6 years earlier the FDNY answered the call during our darkest days as I watched the towers fall tears ran down my face. It doesn't seem like 20 years have passed
Amazing song. Also one the best country singers ever. This event made the whole country unite and we were ready to fight anyone. Sad now how most young kids now hate America and hate most things about us.
Because they are ungrateful brainwashed cry bullies with serious selfish entitlement issues
It’s still really hard to hear this song. I still cry like a baby. I was a brand new Airman in the USAF. I’m retired now and spent 20 years fighting the war of terror. Lot of good that did us. But thank you our awesome UK allies too. I had a nice tour at RAF Mildenhall.
9/11 Will forever be in my mind and never forgotten. I remember where I was and what I was doing. I remember feeling like the world was ending. My heart broke for all those lives that were lost. I had a coworker that was cocounsel to A law firm that I worked with. His office was in the north tower. He was an older gentleman and had never been late for work a day in his life. He was always the first one there and the last one to leave. On that tragic day, he was late for work. There were so many stories like that. Never forget 9/11!!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Do his song Chattahoochee next. It's the complete opposite of this.
It really is opposite. Awesome! :)
On September 12 Her Majesty Elizabeth II ordered the Queen’s Guardto play the Star Spangled Banner at the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham. As an American and former USAF, to me that’s the coolest thing Britain did after WWII.🇺🇸🇬🇧
