We have been working super hard on this project and are thrilled to finally be releasing "Apple Pie," aka The Best Commander Card from Each Set. We scour magic's entire history and look for the strongest originally printed cards from every release offering new cards. What are your favorite sets/expansions for commander? Would you change any of our best commander cards? What did you think of this video and would you want more big projects like this in the future? Let us know!

KingoftheKarps Jitte is not a card we like on commander.
Fun fact: Tezzeret the seeker is actually not canon, as the book where he comes from, where he is A)a good person B)not bound to bolas (he actually beats him) and C)mono blue is completely retconed. So much so that his official info pages completely skips the events of the book. Test of metal was also retconed basically immediately as the literal next story tezzeret appears in retcons it
He defeated a clone. Bolas even stops by later to put it out of its misery. (Though this was from the web story, which is probably the retcon.)

This is by far the best video you've ever made. I'm only 10 mins in, but it's amazingly well put together.

This is probably the best video yet I miss the pre 2004 sets maybe it’s just because I was young but magic had a totally different feel back then I like how you brought in some of the history along with the runner up cards great job guys

I love the humor Joe edited into the vid, especially any and all wrestling and Adventure Time/Bravest Warriors references. Fun fact, I have a Catbug d6. Beezey has a very good narration voice as well. I started playing around Onslaught and off and on from there, so I love all the nostalgia I get form watching this. My first "EDH" deck was around the time of the format's takeoff in popularity, Scion of the Ur-Drag0n, and was followed shortly after by the original version of Kaervek. Years later, my first "Commander" deck, was actually Karador, so I too love that guy. I've been playing ever since and haven't missed a commander precon cycle since 2013. You guys are awesome, can't wait for more!

That card jumped in price because of the GREAT Minotaur commander that came out of JumpStart Sethron. I should know because I built him and I definitely had to get my hands on it. Glad someone mentioned the artifact even though it basically has one use lol.

Jitte is for sure better than hokori. Goes in any deck and makes combat a nightmare for any fair creature deck.

I've been feeling very disillusioned with Magic lately because of the direction WOTC/Hasbros has been taking the game over the last couple years, but this video has me feeling really nostalgic. Remembering all the fun games and interactions I've had with so many of these cards reminds me of how much genuine joy Magic/EDH has brought me. Great content.

I think you have a typo in the „Prophecy” set and wrote „Phophecy”
Yeah we vetted it and cut out about 50 errors but I think 5 or so still made it through

Holy crap is this video amazing! Taking a trip back through time and getting to relive all the good (and frustrating) memories of all the magic sets from those magical "first few years" of magic when you first get introduced to the game. This video ticks all the nostalgic charm.

This should not be misconstrued as a negative comment as you are clearly evaluating the cards from a casually competitive perspective. That was a cool brief history of magic through the lens of commander for me. I played some in 2012 but didn’t get into the game until 2019.
This was my introduction to your channel, not sure why it popped up in my feed now, but will gladly see what else you're working on.
This video was very fun to watch good job. Personally I would like to have seen a version where lands and mana producing cards were excluded. Because they are predictably the go to pick after I saw they were included.

Love the video. Only critique - since it's everpresent - the black, thin text is hard to read on a lot of the backgrounds. I understand that thicker, sans serif fonts may look a little less professional, but I would recommend looking for something a little more bold-faced and not in black.

As 'poopy' as Portal Second Age is, it has one of my all-time favorite card arts in all of Magic's history in Denizen of the Deep. If I could get Portal Second Age's version of Denizen's art as a poster, I'd hang it on my wall. I like the art so much I went out of my way last year to buy it online - it was the first card I ever actually bought online.

I've never actually played Commander, but a friend of mine who does has informed me that the one card that I would want to use as my Commander is actually banned as a Commander - Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary.

Without being too picky, but the math you did in your example for the Craterhoof Behemoth is wrong.
5+(2x247)+(1x11)+(1+247+11)² = 67591 which is about 2.7 % lower than 69420. You first failed to sum up 247+1+11 some how resulting in 69420 as a multiple of 260... but anyways, great video! So much research done soooo well! (: Thanks for the good work.

I'd like a zombie lim dul personally. But gary the merchant of asphodel would hopefully be a zombie merchant because why not. Even have the original gray merchant art referenced as a zombie on sale
Great content! This video made very clear for me how the release schedule of Magic sets has been accelerated, to the point of now being doubled compared to the previous era. When the video gets to 2008 (approx. half the lifetime of the game), it is only at one third of the sets.

Obviously did a lot of work on this and I really appreciate the effort, but I ended up turning it off because of the volume inconsistencies. Highly recommend either making sure you sit a certain distance from the mic, use a clip-on, or fix in post. Regardless, cool idea and I enjoyed what I watched.
