I've said for a long time that if Thornley had been born in the States, his music would be charting every year, because he would have gotten the exposure and promotion that he deserves. He is a special talent.
Yeah I dunno about that. Bryan Adam's became world famous and he was Canadian born. Same with Alanis Morissette, Avril Lavigne and Gordon Lightfoot. I mean Neil Young was born in Canada so was joni Mitchell two of the biggest artists ever. Justin Bieber and drake were Canadian born and two of the biggest pop artists of the past 30 years. The weeknd played the super bowl a few years ago. Daniel Landis, Michel frigging buble, Shania twain ....all giant Canadian born artists. Rock groups like rush , nickelback super successful and everyone knows they are from Canada. So, I don't agree that's it just where u are born.
It's because of the time they came in I think. Music scene was exploding in the 90's. They came out on fire with ILMO but the second album didn't fare great which then led to an extended break by the band. They got lost in the ether.
he chose this. he tried the main stream thing with the band "thornley". too much propaganda and crap he says.... this man has been around for years. and if you have heard good music you have heard his music
The fact that this man, along with Big Wreck, aren’t way bigger than they are is criminal. Unbelievable musician and singer. I’ve been a fan of him since The Pleasure and the Greed.
I whole heartedly believe that Big Wreck or even Ian Thornley are in the top 3 maybe event number one bands from Canada (I know the whole band isn’t). Regardless amazing singer/songwriter and super underrated!
Ian Fletcher Thornley is SO much better than all the rest! The reason he's not at the top of the list when it comes to popularity IS!!! He never sold his soul to the devil and the music industry!
Ian Fletcher Thornley... HANDS DOWN, one of the most PROLIFIC and HIGHLY UNDERRATED musicians of our time! THE QUINTESSENTIAL MUSICIAN'S MUSICIAN!!! 💯🎶🤘🏼😎🎸🎶💯

I saw these guys in a hole in the wall bar in Columbia, South Carolina in 1999, like maybe 30 people there. I was instantly hooked. A couple years later I heard they were playing a show at Mayfest in downtown Columbia and I HAD to go. Turns out I was scheduled to work that day so I quit that f-ing job and I'm sooooooo glad I did, it was a killer show! Top 3 of rock bands in my mind
We all need to help send Big Wreck World wide. Yes..a DVD or at least get these live videos from all the Suhr shows out in the public everywhere. I think they came out when the internet took over..where records sold less..plus all the rickers were having families..just unlucky timing. Plus..whoever- if anyone- was in charge of marketing these guys did not do a good enough job as well. Anyways..my God I'm a huge fan. Guitar player and songwriter myself..and I'm Taki g a huge huge cue and I fluency from Ian Thornley now. Thankyou Ian and all of Big Wreck. Behind you all the way!!!
This is probably the best signature guitarist/singer out there in 2022, and yet most of America has never heard of Ian or Big Wreck. One live shot of Ghosts and I think all of Blues Rock America would be hooked.
Tone for days and a wicked sense of melody. Guitarist who can tell a story within a story when he solos! A rare talent in today's shred world. Take note ALL YOUNG GUNS....restraint is often better than a.zillion notes. What's even more cool is the fact that when Thornley WANTS to rip.....he can and it's always tasteful. Just a badass that should be a HOUSEHOLD NAME
My favorite song by Big wreck by far!! Its live and so incredibly well done. The guitar, the DRUMS are just so perfectly done. The last two minutes of the solo I've played no joke probably a 150 times. I fall asleep to this track. Really good music is rare these days it seems. Its been so commercialize and created for the most part by computers. Most of it couldn't be replicated live. Big wreck is amazing to see on stage. No smoke and mirrors with these guys.

the first 16 of this song might be my favorite rock lyrics of all time "down here under the lighthouse, upstairs you'll see for miles. Keep my name under the whiteout, Just let me miss you all the while" perfect example of really good rhyming also when he does the on purpose non rhyming letter - brain just after is so well done.
I was there that night and I can attest that during this song Ian, Dave and Randy completely transported this club into another dimension. It was like they went to another level of sonic reality and brought us all with them. This was one of the most spectacular live shows that I have ever seen.
Felt the same here at home on the Atlantic coast a few months back in a small club setting. It truly is an experience to remember, and to see again soon!!!
WOW - so much going on here besides just playing. Alternating between slide and fingering chords - picking and fingerpicking - adjusting the volume knob and PU selector - pedal tap dancing - and singing. Tons of practice / rehersal + desire + talent + great band + great gear = AWESOME!!!

Overemphasizing from Big Wreck's 1st album has one of the greatest slide solos ever
Most Underrated "Guitarist," merci.
