  • In this video, I cover one of the most famous of all 2D mechanisms, the slider-crank. My goal is to help you understand this important topic.
The MERM has some major gaps and problematic approaches to Rigid-body Kinematics and Kinetics. To address this shortcoming, I have recorded this video as an instructional companion to the MERM.
I hope this video helps you understand these topics better. After you watch it, let me know how this video has helped you with your review for the PE Exam? In your college course? Passing a test?
You’ll find lots more videos on my UA-cam channel on fundamental mechanical engineering topics. If you’d like to see more videos like this as they become available, subscribe to our channel. And if you’d like to hear more from Dr. Tom’s Classroom follow us on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest and Twitter.
If you’re preparing for the PE Exam, DTC also offers Mechanical PE Exam reviews. You can learn more at drtomsclassroom.com
    Thanks, Dr. Tom

Only a kinematics buff like yourself would consider this easy. It is the most famous of the classical mechanisms. Tom

Chamira Wickramasinghe I assume you are studying mechanical engineering. One of the items on my Bucket List is to travel around England, then Scotland. I'll have to make sure Wolverhampton is on the list of place to visit. All the best, and thanks for letting me know. Tom

Vijay Pandey These videos were created for those preparing to take the Mechanical Engineering PE Exam, and seeing an offset slider crank problem on this exam is highly unlikely. However, only the geometry of the connecting rod changes as the slider is still in Pure Translation and the crank in Pure Rotation. And no closed form solution exists, so each problem is unique depending on how much the slider would be offset. If you understand the principles and steps in this video, you should be able to solve any slider-crank problem. By the way, how did you come to watch my video? And where are you located? Tom
