If you’re a wrestling mark Gief is looking so incredibly sick, that Strong combo is some Kenta Kobashi shit and it’s amazing Also important to note that apparently the only reason Gief has that kick parry is because the designers think Dragon Screws are super sick and while they aren’t wrong I hope it’s more useful this time.
It doesn't really have to work against punches, it's enough if it works against all kicks, is easier to execute, less punishable and gives you a bigger reward. If gief has a harder time getting oki with other moves, this gives you oki and you don't lose a third of life bar if you misread you might as well throw it out now and then.
That Goldberg jackhammer, the "last ride" reference after doing a Rainmaker to someone, the literal tombstone piledriver, they're really making Gief into a real wrestler this time around.
Only countering kicks wasn’t the problem of Tundra Storm in SFV, it was that it was more specific than that and only parried specific kicks. Supposedly kicks that are “horizontally aligned”; it would parry Ryu stand medium kick, but not stand hard kick etc. in this game I imagine it’s probably just universal to all standing kicks at least and maybe to crouching kicks too? The blog post just says it counters grounded kicks. I think it will be better in this game because people throw out kicks trying to confirm into DR in neutral a lot and hopefully it’s less specific
You can recognize what level the super has based on whether the camera zooms in on activation. Level 1 supers don't have a zoom-in at all whereas level 2s and 3s zoom in on the character

Gief is the only character they try to justify reasons for not giving him his move back. There’s always some reason why he doesn’t need it even in a game where every character has every move they’ve ever had and more

Gief is tundra storming Honda's stand roundhouse, I think? Which isn't possible in SFV. It would be nice if the move was buffed to work on all outstretched kick attacks, but even then it wouldn't be great. Also, I think cammy had a 1 hit axe kick and a 2 hit axe kick? So if the 2 hit kick isn't EX, perhaps it's the charged version of hooligan.

Could be either or, honestly. Gief's stomp was just his Close LK from SF4 but multiple times, and the EX had his Close HK in there as well. They could've just changed it from a Special Move to a target combo
I very casually played SF4, and minus a few hours I entirely skipped SF5. When SF6 was revealed I decided I'll play it (and hopefully more serious than I did SF4), so I've been watching more FGC content to tide me over to release. That Cammy turn around into what seemed to be a neckbreaker, the move that had a big impact, it seems to come from the Animated Movie, when she killed the Prime Minister with a similar attack.
Nobody uses it so I'm not surprised Brian didn't recognize it but her Axe kick here is very similar to her V-trigger 2 jump kick follow up that was a overhead. She could also do a duckable command grab from the same jump so it was a 50/50 and both options lead to a combo. Nobody uses it because it's horrendous on block and it's on a three bar V-trigger for a 900 health character but it seems like they're incorporating both elements into her hooligan.

these are aztec obsidian war clubs the black orbs at the end of the stick are made of obsidian (vulcanic glass). Aztec warriors used to use thos apparently.
Yeah obsidian was used because it was sharp enough to maim and not kill, so the injured warriors could be then captured and subjected to ritual sacrifice (among other things).
It seems that Lily's clubs resemble Iroquois war clubs. Much like the case with Gief's grappling, Capcom went hard on the research with this character and it's showing a lot of love going into the game.
Pretty sure those are supposed to Aztec quauhololli, consdering where T-hawk and her are from, but yeah didn't realize the Iroquois used such a similar weapon.

Capcom is crushing it right now man. They’ve been on a roll for awhile now and I loved what they showed here of these 3 characters plus I can’t help but be excited for RE4 Remake.
I like grapplers because their existence can change up your normal flow of battle. Things you could do against other characters are now unsafe with the threat of being scooped. Do I want to fight Gief in every match? No. But running into one keeps my matches feeling fresh.
The dynamic of trying to get them the hell away is kinda fun too, specially if your character has to rely on normals to keep them out, it's pretty tense but in a fun way I would hate to play a Grappler on a tournament tho
At first I wasn't excited for Lily but the more I look at her gameplay the more I'm interested. A hyper mobile lightweight grappler sounds really interesting and her normals look like they have some good reach. If I don't click with Marisa I might take a look at Lily next.
I get a feeling she'll be quite a bully in neutral with the big normals and oddly mobile Hawk moves, but I think her command grab will probably have small range and she'll use it mostly for pressure situations, instead of being like Gief where he just scoops you from pretty far away, altho she might have some cheeky "whiff special into throw" setups

The flipping grab is called atomic suplex. And tundra storm was so bad it only work with certain kicks. It didn't even work on most characters. It'd be decent if it at least countered kick buttons in general.

I can see Zangief's target combos being stopped early for tick throw situations. If that's legit, I'm worried lol
If even one of those target combos is special cancelable you could also drive rush cancel them and end up in their faces at plus frames.

Gief’s counter works on moves that use legs or kicks. Balrog doesn’t get countered at all iirc
