- Fair Cop founder Harry Miller says police officers are “terrified” of going into the Notting Hill Carnival because of the ‘increased likelihood of violence and instructions of soft-policing’.
This comes after three men have been arrested over the stabbing of a 32-year-old mother at the Notting Hill Carnival which left her in critical condition.
The woman, who attended the family day of the Carnival on Sunday with her young child, was attacked in Golborne Road shortly before 6pm and police officers gave her emergency medical treatment until paramedics arrived.
She was taken to hospital where she remains in critical condition.
Harry says: “The police are scared to be there!”

If those attending cannot act in a decent and respectful way, then it needs to be shut down, permanently. It is a privilege to be allowed to do this, they need to remember that.

My work colleagues son is a met police officer. He hates being deployed to the carnival. We all know who the perpetrators of the crime is, but if the police even try to do anything they are immediately accused of racism. A complete no win situation.
So if you know who the perpetrators are why haven't you informed the police, by law that would make you complicit right?

Wish I could sympathise, but I can't. That police officer would happily arrest someone for social media posts or praying, but can't police actual violence citing the "we'll be called racists" mantra. Does he complain about taking away people's free speech? He's OK, he's surrounded by cotton wool. Its the rest of us that have to face the mayhem. Maybe he should leave and get himself decent job.

I attended it on one occasion: 2004. I was with my Mexican girlfriend who managed to attract the most unwanted attention from certain members of the peaceful crowd. We were there for 36 minutes and 42 seconds 😡🧑🏻🦰💁🏾♀️🇬🇧

The police are very brave when arresting a pensioner or a disabled guy in a wheelchair but not when the guy is able bodied.

Perhaps this particular peaceful extravaganza should move to Poland, Hungary, or perhaps even Russia where I believe the police forces would deal with such an event in a rather more proactive fashion.

Regarding shoplifting . Even if the Police arrested every shoplifter the Prosecution Service still wouldn't charge years ago they stated that prosecuting shoplifters was a waste of their budgets and was not in the interest of the public. Which of course it is .

Well about 2 million people attended this year across both days and I’m pretty sure most of us are sane. It’s one of the most popular carnivals in Europe and generates a lot of money.

Have you seen the crime stats? Seeing certain groups as more likely to be a problem was merely noticing a pattern, not discrimination based on a deep seated dislike for people who look different merely because they look different. The whole thing was rubbish then, and thinking otherwise is part of exactly how we got to this point. Pretending discrimination that is not happening and replacing it with deliberately institutionalized discrimination. Claiming systemic racism in order to actually impose institutional racism. Don't even pretend any of it was legitimate.
I think the police are brave to go into such a hostile environment.
I fully agree, who in their right mind would choose to go in there knowing they will face deliberate confrontation and aggressive behaviour and that every person they arrest will accuse them of Racism. The police in London are controlled by the likes of sir Mark Rowley, a totally ineffective and spineless apology for a man who is noted for his advocation of leniency towards every criminal who isn't British and White. The police have been ordered to show leniency at Notting Hill and to avoid confrontation. Pathetic and appalling leadership from an appalling Government.

Apart from everything that is being said, it’s a beautiful wonderful carnival. So colourful and we should be proud of such an amazing event.
You see all that footage of the tight sardine can scrum they've been showing? I want everybody to know that that's what the London Underground is like in general that weekend-- you don't even have to be NEAR Notting Hill, just travelling in London in general. It's the most frightening, claustrophobic, suffocating situation imaginable because there are NO COPS AND NO STEWARDS AND MARSHALLS anywhere in the Underground Stations. Why this is never ever ever talked about anywhere online or in the media absolutely enrages me. That's a reality people deal with and it's completely swept under the carpet. I literally couldn't get out of a train carriage that weekend (I was on my way to have a nice Korean lunch with my husband but that didn't happen obvs). I was pressed against the wall of the train and when the train pulled up to the next stop, gangs of half naked tooled up blokes reeking of weed literally pulled the doors open as they gently 'beep beep beeped'. They were that aggressive and out of control they couldn't wait for a door to open-- they had to push it open with great force and then they just tipped into a train carriage that was already at full capacity. It was hell on Earth. I almost pulled the emergency lever/button I was that frightened. I just wanted to get off but how could I do that when everybody was pushing their way into the carriage when the doors opened, absolutely oblivious to regular commuters needing to get out. No policing or management in the underground.

I used to run the stewarding for half of Glastonbury's se corner that's the all night party bit of the site, we would get 100,000 people through my 3 fields did that for 6-7 years never saw a fight certainly never a stabbing .
But used to go to the festival in the 1990s and it was a bit rough, we put up the big fence to get in you need tickets now way less violence . use one of londons parks put up a fence and watch towers like glasto .

The people getting stabbed are mostly gang members, a lot of gang members in London attend carnival and they have opps. You can’t single out carnival because of the 0.004% ruining it for everyone else
The true figures are much higher because NHC crime figures are only counted within the NHC designated area, take one foot outside that area and the crime will not be counted as NHC related. BTP figures should also be added which are outside the designated areas but are NHC related.
The fact is that nobody wants it in Hyde Park either, its an impossible situation.

I've been to a mini Carnival in Hyde Park and there was a stabbing which left one young man needing to be air lifted away by Helicopter. Not sure if he survived but I don't think he did. I am not sure moving it would solve the issue at all
it's no wonder shops are lcosing and sales are moving online. Much safer and no losses..not to mention cheaper to run
