- This week i take a trip to T. Nolan & Sons SCANIA to test drive a P440.
With it's 12.7 Litre in-line 6 cylinder diesel engine delivering 440hp and 2,300 Nm
We will have a quick look around outside, then i'll check out all t's interior features before getting hooked under a loaded trailer and taking it for a test drive.
So has it got enough power?? Let's find out...
I also have a quick look around a couple of other interesting trucks too.

I started in a era of the 300 bhp for 44 ton truck, to me it's got plenty!
I dont think most employers give a flying .... what the driver thinks ,just get that trailer hooked and get going

There's three things they care about fuel economy resale value and what r & m deal they get. They literally just buy what a salesman tells them to buy. So if you think you need 500 bhp for example a computer will tell them the lower powered truck gets better mpg and it's cheaper to buy so the poor driver can struggle. It's such a shame that the profit margins are pathetically too tight that it's all about mpg and not a lot else. I wish it wasn't like this
Now I remember why I hated my old p380 .. No ####cupholder..
Mine was a Manuel as well and I was also looked out once.. for slamming the door ..to hard
Nice to see the old Give truck used for hauling windmills.. I bet you that it has.. or use to have more power then 580hp.. most off then where fitted with an powerchips I believe about 650-700hp..
Last time I saw it it was running with a tipper behind...
Most Danish cabins that time are fitted with The red "busplys" and leather..old school... it would be nice to see a vid off you driving it around.. 👍

I never asked about those plastic markers on the wheels. In South African we have a case where trucks wheels are stolen or sold by drivers. I have always assumed the plastic markers were there to keep track of tempering on the wheels (to see if anyone has swapped the wheels or something). Great to finally know what their true function is... :-)
The red scania 164G is an ex Give Sværgods, they used to have an yard in uddingston scotland where i live. Seen this truck alot.
That 164 with all the red and black leather inside... I'd say that lad entertains a few ladies in there alright.
I used to think I was the bees knees piloting my Scania 93 280bhp at 38tons.. Great days
In Europe 440hp felt bad but in Indonesia 440hp use for heavy haulage like 50tons or something

Where I'm from a P440 is considered very powerful, most trucks here have 320-360hp regardless of manufacturer. They say it's due to the speed limit of just 60kph/45mph
Meantime for me at my company it is mostly r560/580 and a few r730 and that feels a bit weak sometimes when driving 74tons in 10% hills

One very annoying thing about the P sleeper cab, the interior light switch next to the bunk is so low that you'll keep bumping into it through the night, turning the lights on and waking up all the time.

Nice video stravos as always. I think for a distribution tracktor is 440 hp very nice. In the 80,s was 330 hp up to 420 the max there was. So 440 is plenty. The australian spec. T 143 450 is so very very cool . I think they used it to pull B double,s down under becuase it was a 80 tonne spec unit. The roadtrain units are 120 tonne spec if i am correct

Seen a P series as a bin truck look lush I have to say. The only criticism I have on the design of the P series is, most P series are used as bin trucks so why not adapt the concept used in the Scania Urban Tipper of the "ankle windows" to see cyclists on the near side as its an already low cab and them windows would help a hell of alot going around busy city streets. Could be an idea for future models.

Give swævergoods old 8x4. Finn Hansen or bill Livingston. Don’t know the difference in what the two men did with the company . No longer on the go. Went bust last years. All his trucks were brilliant.

What is the P, S, R, and T meaning in scania?
Basically denotes a different model or style of cab...and possibly it's use...
P stands for low frontsteer cab ,R for high fronsteer cab and T for torpedo . S is for the new gen. Scania,s and stands for midle high frontsteer and they have a little engine bumb in the cab.
what's the difference actually between an R and a G series?
De G staat iets lager op het chassis en de cabine is iets eenvoudiger uitgevoerd.
The G-Series is less expensive and has more basic interior than the R-Series
The G series is basically a 4 series cab with the new type interior and front grill,it has the exact same hump in the middle,not as big as the hump in the p series but in between a p and an R series

Is it often to see P series tractor unit in england or in euro?
It is so often to see in my area. Most of the transport company in my place use P360, P380, P400 or P410 as tractor unit if they decided to bought Scania Truck. The G series is hard to find. The R series is a lot more harder to see in my area.
And the New Gen Scania still cannot found in my area.

I’m almost 100% certain the Scania 143M came from Geelong, Victoria which is about 85kms from Melbourne.
About 23yrs ago I worked at a take away food shop in North Geelong and I used to ride my bike past the Scania dealer there and that’s where this truck came from.
I would love to know for sure because this truck is exactly the same set up as the one I remember when I was going to the first job I ever had.
