Go live your life Lou.
You earned it...
Well done.
I’m low key glad Casey left this company. This dude seems way more interested in it
I listen to podcasts while driving and while doing chores. Favorites - WTF with Marc Maron, Freakonomics, Revisionist History with Malcolm Gladwell, The Daily, Making Sense with Sam Harris, Crimetown, Serial, and In the Dark. S-Town is the GOAT.
What about The Adam Carolla Podcast, the most popular podcast and you totally ignored him!
@@LazarusSlade Not my bag, man!
@@LouisFoglia Whoa! First of all that's elitist of you! Second of all your journalistic integrity just went down the drain! You're supposed to be presenting an unbiased reporting on Podcasting! You personally not liking something doesn't mean it doesn't exist! It's like report on Space and ignoring black holes because "they aren't on my back, man!"
@@LazarusSlade Can't tell if you're being serious or not.

Discovering this guy is one of my happiest UA-cam accidents. He has a way of skimming and summarising a subject yet it's not superfluous at all. Brilliant, please keep it coming!
Hey it's Lou and some wild shit is going down with podcasts...
I was born in the 50's and was very sickly... I caught everything except a baseball... The only real way to keep me quiet and in bed was to listen to soap opera's ... now, I hated them when I grew up, but listening to storytelling on the radio was awesome. I love podcasts too :)
Dude, I want that "Wild Shit by Lou" podcast. Seriously. I already searched for it and have come away heartbroken.
This video in a nutshell: Podcasts are the new AM talk radio.
Every medium will eventually move behind a paywall. Because, money is still the most important thing.
Any time anyone ever says "creative people do creative things because they love it, so don't worry about paying them," I say:
F***ING PAY THE DAMN CREATIVE PEOPLE, THEY NEED TO EAT AND PAY RENT
The podcast that moves behind a paywall is the podcast that dies.
apple has had podcast for their taking for a decade, and completely ignored it
You could argue that they're one of THE platforms for podcasts. The resulting brand recognition alone has to be worth something.
that's why it got better.
If companies did anything they'd have ruined it
I noticed some time ago that it seemed like we were going back in time with many videos on UA-cam having their hosts do ads just like on old time radio and TV. It's just interesting to see how old things occasionally become new again.
Hell yeah JRE 💯💯
Joe Rogan will be known as the father of the modern podcasting imo
arbaaz manjiyani absolutely agree
Adam Corolla is and how even gives him the credit for it.
"85% of NPRs listeners has a bachelor's. ARE ALL PODCASTS ELITISTS??" -_-
You are doing an amazing job guys! I enjoy every video and learn something new every time! Your view count doesn't reflect the quality :)
Media is the plural of medium, unless you're talking about t-shirts or psychics.
T-shirt or physics 🤣🤣🤣
Theo Vons ads are sometimes the funniest part of the whole podcast 😂
What lav mic are you using Lou?
The tone is damn nice and crisp. Great video too btw!
podcasts, beyond the friends-round-table-jabber style (that is certainly entertaining, but undoubtably inconsequential), are also a medium that covers news that no other platform can do nearly as effectively, podcasts often cover the stories of everyday people, marginalized people of all kinds, in truly empathetic and compelling audio portraits. This is what makes the medium special in my opinion, no other medium can highlight the voices of syrian refugees, impoverished citizenry, migrants fleeing violence, you name it, like audio documentary can. Marc maron, two dope queens and the like are all fantastically entertaining projects, but its important to remember that the medium is also capable of so much more, and has to me already proven to be one of the most compelling, empathetic, and effective forms of journalism
Why would you listen to an ad...? Even if the person reading it is someone I like I still skip it. It's an ad...
Meme Machine most people listen to podcasts while doing other things, where its inconvenient/unsafe just to skip the ads (e.g. While driving)
Because some of these ads are either entertaining or offer an interesting service. Ads are becoming quite clever in catching attention.
Loved watching this! Congratulations
I’ve been listening to podcasts since 6th grade and ever since then I’ve been hooked
About a decade ago, Google released an app that was a "podcast catcher." Any audio that was publicly posted on a website became a podcast by default. I remember listening to random academic panels. Google killed off the app because podcasts was yet a boom as they are now.
Is it true that Beme is owned by CNN? I am only asking because I really like you guys, since I look at you as an independent media.
Following
That's not exactly a secret or anything - there are a ton of articles about Casey selling Beme to CNN and how that deal went south and what CNN is doing with Beme now
Heck - it's even listed as CNN owned on Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beme
why is this not available? (Italy)
Same here in Denmark
same in Romania
And America now
Same in Maine
YT glitch this AM, some videos which have normally been available are unavailable. This one is working for me now. Try them again in a few minutes.
Lou is the best
Reconsidermedia podcast is good for those who enjoy geo-political podcasts
I just wanna hawk my podcast... which is more hyper local
The only podcast I would actually listen to the ads, rather than skipping through, was the jim jefferies show podcast (before it became a duplicate of the tv show), because the ads were insane
You should make a video about India's income income gap between top and bottom is now 73%
Would you mind sourcing that for me?
@@AdamGoldbergOmaha it's a data President by several Indian news reporting agencies like the Hindu and some Indian activist
I'm a daily podcast listener. I have to say sound, whether music or speech, is superior to all other mediums. It is also the medium to most likely help you communicate more effectively with other humans being.
These videos would also work great as podcasts... :)
Where is these team? These videos news were really good!
Podcasts mean hours of content with little to no effort. I'm not surprised everyone is jumping on the bandwagon.
I don't disagree with you but
the way you worded that makes it seem like ALL podcasts have little-to-no value
where I agree is that A LOT of shit is going to be produced in this " *Boom* " but the old saying still holds ' the cream of the crop rises to the top ' - Joe Rogan and the like
these will be somewhat viable career paths for SOME people, because they are safe from automation in the future - robots are incapable of being creative
Just like digital video, television, movies, games, and literature.
@shortchubby, algorithms can still curate man-made creativities.
@@shortchubbyneckbeard1681 That's absolutely correct. I hosted a fairly popular podcast from 2004 until 2008, but it never really went anywhere past ~200 listeners. So even getting in from the ground floor didn't help, because like you say, the "cream of the crop" will always rise.
journalistic, audio documentary works like serial required literally thousands of hours of recording, investigating, etc. thats like saying television takes no effort to make because you can record video on your phone, that being said, there is something completely legitimate and powerful about a medium that allows marginalized and underrepresented voices the opportunity to produce and release content with little cost and beyond the censors and curation of large media companies.
I listen to podcasts while doing chores and driving. Favorites include "Planet Money" NPR, "The Money" Australia Broadcasting Corporation, "In the Money" BBC. I also really like some podcast specials like "Dirty John" LA times, "Heros Hustlers and Horsemen CBC (about Calgary history where I live) and "50 things that changed the World" BBC.
I was really hoping this was going to be an episode of Wild Shit going down, but how much murder and mayhem can you get on a podcast. I already waste all my time on UA-cam so I don't do podcasts.
Comments comments, just commenting so UA-cam recommends this more, coz I like Lou 😎
Hey lou can you update us on what beme is and y its now news not social media app?
Because the beme app failed and CNN bought the company.
Another solid video
really good content,great channel
Roster Teeth Podcast is also great :)
ITS LOU GUYS
I never understood why podcasts are so popular in the US while it's something extremely niche in europe. Must be the long commutes and lack of quality radio content.
What quality radio content exists in, say, Europe?
@@AdamGoldbergOmaha I don't know for europe in general. in switzerland there are no ads and interesting talks/news/debates, but it's financed by the public and it's a small country so not really comparable. but I think ads are the killer. Anyway it was one hypothesis I don't really listen to US radio.
I looooove podcasts.... And btw: daaamn gimlet!
I remember listening to podcasts as a child more than 10 years ago
Listen Lou, you are basically my podcast... so thanks
I watched this with the screen off, was this a short podcast for me?
Good video! Podcasts are on the rise indeed! I love listening to them on my runs :)
Hollywood handbook is litty
Podcast is modern radio
Radio is still a thing. Could I suggest that internet radio is modern radio?
I only listen to Jenna & Juliens podcast, Juliens segways into their ads are so funny, he's really good at working them in I used to listen to Shane and Friends too. But I'm just not sure how to find more podcasts I like.
Watching this put me in the mood to go listen to podcast
Hey Lou. Always good to see ya.
i have been listening to podcasts since 2004. What i dislike, is how nowadays its more difficult to discover good podcasts (that interest me) than ever before.
Adam Curry is the inventor of Podcasting
No doubt, if Glass is the godfather what does that make Adam?
KENNETH the PODfather
Good to see ypu man
Wait, Lou, some wild shit is going on in Sudan. Can't bother to do an enlightening reading. You got me covered?
am i the only one shook by the realization beme is pronounced "beam" not "bee me" i had to pause at the title card to collect myself....
True that
If I hear one more ad for the Ron Burgundy podcast ima neck
Who else watches Lou's beme news videos as a podcast?
As a video podcast?
Can we get these videos as a podcast?
Like for Joe Rogans Elon musk podcast
Karma hoar
@derrick, is comment karma even a thing on UA-cam videos / channels?
@@AdamGoldbergOmaha is that what this is called?
Very well articulated presentation on this topic wow
I love podcasts. They're my favourite form of consuming content, I listen to podcasts while walking, while working, and sometimes to fall asleep. I think with any medium, if there's profit to be made it will get sullied by corporate (see: UA-cam), but I also think the people who put their time into making podcasts deserve to make money.
UA-cam is an intentional medium as well... :)
No shout out for Joe Rogan? Madness he's killing it.
He must be one of the biggest on UA-cam when it comes to podcasts.
Go on chapo

Great perspective! I think podcasting is only going to continue to grow at a rapid rate.
I don't want corporate money in my podcast. I'd rather pay for it.
Not all corporate is big corporate.
Lou you are the best! In my opinion podcasts are indeed here to stay. One thing that I don't think was mentioned is the fact that you can listen to it while doing something that doesn't require your full attention. I drive a car that has Level 2 automation. On traffic nowadays I just activate the driving assistance and keep most of my focus on a podcast/audiobook. I call it passive learning (I don't know if this is the correct term). I'm always learning something new even while I'm doing the dishes. This is also, imho, a reason why it's getting more and more popular specially with this demographic.
Lou's introductions always sound like he's trying to get back into a post-zombie outbreak bunker after leaving to scrounge for food.
Hi Lu.
What's the thing today?
I listened to podcasts way before they were cool! :D
Rodrigo Graça you and everyone else.lol
I hope everyone listens to Moderate Rebels, it's a political podcasts that talks about foreign policy and is left leaning

You ended a bit early there, it kind of sounded like you were about to say something interesting
Where does Lou go to live his life?
I’m looking for some great podcasts to get into. Anybody got any recommendations?? 😊
My name is Aminé Listen to S-Town. Fantastic intriguing mystery.
Pay Gary Vee 50K and create a social media presence. Why don’t you actively try to get more viewers.
📖
No! Whether you like it or not, the Grandfather of Podcasting and even a Guinness world record for most downloads is Adam Carolla! He's actually making money from it. You chose to ignore the most dominant player in this industry! Not cool Lou, not cool!
Joe Rogan joined the chat
we need a "wild shit with Lou" podcast
Bill burr ads
cool video, but that made in nyc at the end is sooo pretentious
Only podcasts I can stomach are sleepycast, supermegacast, shmucks, the official podcast on occasion, and Joe Rogan sparingly.
Fun fact: Joe rogan's Alex Jones podcast is the most watched podcast on youtube this year.

Podcasts will have it's golden era, then it will fade. It will be replaced by another form of media that people with gravitate to. And the cycle continues...
