oh IMVU is MAJOR middle school nostalgia. this defined fashion, aesthetics, and nightlife for me as a closeted gay teen living in the middle of nowhere in the early 2010s lol. me and all my friends were on here chatting with strange old men. god bless.
imvu was originally marketed as an online dating thing. like you had youtube sidebar ads that had pictures of "sexy singles" enticing you to come play lol.
fr tho. imvu peaked in 2016 and it has gone downhill ever since. nowadays you can’t even join a chatroom without having miserable people wanting to start arguments with you, unprovoked
@@SanguineArtz They have been trying to promote a "Greeter" program, where they bride people to be nice to newbies. It had some success... but man, all of these negative people come to the chatrooms with a chip on their shoulder, mostly because of crap like this, telling people IMVU is a toxic place. It's just a chatroom. It's as toxic as the people who are visiting. If they come to the chatrooms to be d*cks, because they saw videos telling them IMVU is for d*cks, then you get alot of d*cks. Not really a fair analysis.
I was on IMVU from 2007. Still have an account, but I haven't played for years. They changed the format and it went downhill fast. Shame. It was a lot of fun and I met some wonderful people from all over the world.
Oh god. IMVU brought back some haunting memories lol. I was a child on there and definitely got groomed by old men now that I’m thinking about it in hindsight 😅 It looks way different than what it used to be when I first played it as an elementary and middle school kid though which is interesting. Glad you dipped out of there ASAP
Omfg me too. I’m 33 now and still dealing with that damage 😭 I still love SL (I switched) but do everything I can to make sure others stay safe and don’t have to go through what we did and can enjoy it safely 💕💕
@Gryffindor Prefect absolutely way too young! As an adult now and knowing the dark areas I’ve seen on the internet as a youngin I DEFINITELY am afraid to have children now lmao 💀
@@kamsykay577 second life is better because there are more adults there.. i never see any kids which is good i did sign up when i was like 11-13 but i only played for like a day and was like "nah i should wait until im at least 18" and did that and 9+ years later im back and playing second life again :D
Lmao another one over here! I was in Middle school playing with my bestfriend at the time (Rest in Peace Zolboo) over the phone picking out outfits. It ran like absolute crap on my mommas Windows 95 but when i did get through to a venue, I remember the guys always willing to talk and talking to the "prettier" more money girls lol
Ya it’s hard to get a full experience of the game just going in for a few minutes. There’s now age verifications in the game that make it harder for adults and kids to communicate. They also have a VU TEEN now which is a different experience. You actually have to send a picture of your ID to really get the full experience. For adults who like VR and like to fill their extra time with some fun, parties and events this game is seriously next level. It’s more than just going into rooms and talking to strangers. There’s IMVU events, challenges and so much more. It’s legit and I totally recommend it.
oh also the BEST part of IMVU is the fantasy-themed rooms, where you wear fairy wings or mermaid tails and roleplay fantasy stories with other nerds lol.
i grew up on imvu (no seriously i played it since i was like, 6? 7? 22 now) so i have such a love and insane nostalgia as well as semi bias, but holy shit its community now is so brainrotted and the changes they’ve made is awful. going from a platform for meeting new people and friends, to a lackluster social slop full of monetization and pure hatred and segregation in its own community is wild. look back at the 00s-10s imvu, compared to now. it’s so wild how terrible the changes are. i still miss the forums and the old classic layout ):
@@chynadevyne I vividly remember getting my first computer around 2008/2009 and the first game I downloaded was imvu. Doesn’t matter if the “math isn’t mathing” for you. Obviously it’s been popular for a while.
I used to play this back in my twenties, it was very clickish, you could fight people, and get kicked out of rooms. I had the most fun with my Voltron skin, or Charlie the Tuna skin. They were just starting to get voice when I left, and now with a family I don;t have time for this crap.
The IMVU you have experienced was what is known as either IMVU Next, or IMVU Desk Top. but to get the real experience of IMVU, you need a 32 bit platform, such as windows, 10 or 11, and you need to download IMVU Classic. Not Next or Desktop just Classic. Trust me, it is much easier navigating through this than the other two forementioned. After more than 10 years on this game, I watched it in evolve into a smut house, Full of lewd rooms (AP rooms). It was so simple when I first started, but AP or access pass rooms were starting to take over, and begin to get very creepy. It was over the same years that I begin to see what type of rooms, from adult content to extreme perverse content, that have changed the landscape of IMVU. It is definitely not the same. Before, I had a VIP status, but now, with all the deplorable rooms, I gave up VIP, I won’t support a server that supports such lewd acts. Now I am just there for a few friends to talk to and hang out for a few hours. I don’t logon much anymore, except perhaps to see if any of my friends may be on, Which is far and few between. And that pretty much sums that up.
What other metaverse/social apps should I check out?
rec room
Pretty much just about completed my thesis/ dissertation on imvu lol. Dm me if you’re interested
Club Cooee ^^

Avakin Life ^^ (that's all of my Suggestions haha)

IMVU is such... an experience. honestly kinda forgot it existed til now lol
Yea we all have our own trauma from it lol. 😂
Okay so we all agree IMVU has become a cesspool of groomers and bullies 😂

It's so sad too. I used it way back in 2017 and had a lot of fun and met nice people. Now it's riddled with toxicity.
Not any more then the rest of the internet.

Thank you for pointing this out!
You must be a weird lonely person
Never played this but a lot of people from an old clique I used to hang with did and the stories I heard about them were pretty sus.
So is IMVU just Second Life but they don't even trust you to walk around or make anything yourself?
That was sort of the vibe I got
Nope it's not just second life
imvu has more kids so second life is 10x better.. i'd rather play with people more like my age than with kids :D

Love how you didn't even pimp the avi 😭
I'm subscribed but haven't been getting notifications. Bout to watch 15+ videos straight. Enjoy your content.
ah weird -- glad you are still here!! Much more to come!
Be Careful. People are sometimes catfishing, lying bout their age, etc.
I could definitely see that being the case in there
You gonna blow up man. Solid editing. Great dialog and a good topic man. Keep it up.
Thank you! I really appreciate it 🙏
Hang in there Bro!
I never got to play IMVU back in the day and joined recently. Never yet been brave enough to use it.
Here for the Emily in Paris jokes
I'm glad someone appreciate them
