Thanks, Mr. Rose! Your tutorial helped me prepare for a Christmas show this year. I have but one request, if you please: it'd be nice to hear you playing and singing the entire song, from start to finish. For one, you have a very pleasant singing style. Two, for those of us who have 'kinda' mastered the chords, it'd be a good exercise to play along with you. Thanks again!
Hi Glen. Came across your UA-cam lessons and ended up getting both volumes of your Jazz Ukelele trainings. Love them so much. Still trying to fully grasping the concepts of the ABCD shapes fully. I guess I think in terms of chords and keys. Mahalo for putting your love for jazz for people like me.
Excellent tutorial! I don't have a clue about the jazz chord patterns, so I"ll look into your books, and see if I can summon the patience :) Thanks for sharing ~
Thank you! And thanks also for the opportunity to buy the sheets that go with the lesson (and for such a small amount). Looking forward to printing them off.
Thank you so much Mr Rose for another wonderful tutorial. I have learned so much from you, you make it very easy to understand. This is just delightful.
Thank you very much Glen. I really appreciate this and all of your sharing and instruction. I own all of your books and I highly recommend them folks. Great resources!!!
Well that was beautiful! Someday I hope to get good enough to be able to play those chords but for now I’ll just listen to you. But yes, please do a recording of you singing and playing the whole way through.
I can't add to these comments, only agree with them. I am looking for a song to play at my ukulele Group's Christmas party, this year and I think it may be this one. Trouble is, I need your voice to put it over. Thanks for taking the time to do these vids.
Hi John, It's another year gone past. I hope you remember how you played it last year. Be sure to get on my mailing list (glenrosejazz.com) for updates on the song as well as other holiday songs)
Here I am again, with a new ukulele and a new jam partner. It's going to be that time of year again soon! This time around the jazz chords feel easier. Never say never. Do you have the lead sheet for this piece? Stay well Glen.
Thank you Glen! It says on the lead sheet (which I purchased) that this form can be used with "other similar songs." Can you give some examples of other songs this would work with? Also, is it OK to end it on the major, instead of the Major 7? Just curious. I play your Autumn Leaves ALL the time!
Hey Glenn, I really enjoyed this arrangement, and it is actually in a good key for my vocals too. I was wondering though, On the A pattern chord selections.. The resolving part, I guess I am referring to the change that happens 3 times differently in this arrangement. Is there a good, or more simplified chord arrangement that might work instead of the 3 different parts to resolve the pattern. I know its almost necessary to go between the Dmaj7 and E 6 chord on the 3rd ending because of the repeating "Merry Christmas..." part. So that I understand will be different. But for A pattern ending sections 1 and 2. Could there be a simplified chord set there that would work to complete this song without having the additional more difficult endings?
Hi Michael, The first two sections have different endings with different melodies so the final chords must match the melody. So there is no shortcut. The best advice I can suggest is to listen to the song a lot, sing it, and then you will understand how each ending is different and must use different chords to follow the melody. The final ending can use the same chords as the second ending if you like, just give it a typical jazz vocal ending, that means, make your own final melody to match those chords.(F#m-B13-Em7-A13-Dmaj7) Be sure to add your name to my mailing list on the website (glenrosejazz.com) to get updates and suggestions about this song and other holiday songs as well.
This is the best online lesson I have ever learned. Thank you so much for sharing. and also love your beautiful voice. If you don't mind, I'd like you to teach me the ukulele version of "MY CHERIE AMOUR - Stevie Wonder". I love this song so much. I wish I could play it with my ukulele. THANK YOU...
Thank you Christo. Yes, advanced but well worth it once you get it under control. The chords and patterns can be used in countless other jazz standards as well, so what you learn can be valuable for future use and make learning other songs easier.
Christo, it's really not hard at all, especially if you've gotten Glen's first Jazzy Uke book (I sitll have to get the second one). Just take your time with it, you'll get it. It looks REALLY hard but like all uke songs, there is a pattern! You can do it! What helps me is knowing I have four fingers for four strings. I can't double-barre like Glen does.
Thank you Jean-Francois, We can always have a Skype lesson if you'd like to understand the theory. It's actually a very logical set of normal jazz progressions composed by Mel Torme, one of our greatest jazz singer/musicians.
Thank you Glen, I usually play this song in C with different chord. I will study and brush up. I sing with my Ukulele yesterday !! ua-cam.com/video/ji1OfIQ32vM/v-deo.html
Thank you, Glen. I never tire of your tutorials! Please keep them coming :)
More to come! Thanks
Thank you. Please make more jazz standard lessons!
Love the respect you invoke for Mel Torme.

Great vid Glen but that's pretty advanced stuff!!
Yes, sorry about that. It's not for the faint of heart. The first 4 bars are easy. Just enjoy for those at xmas time.
Thank you Christo. Yes, advanced but well worth it once you get it under control. The chords and patterns can be used in countless other jazz standards as well, so what you learn can be valuable for future use and make learning other songs easier.

did you know Mel played Baritone uke?
Yes, I've seen his wonderful cut of Quiet Nights on Yutube with the bari. have you seen anything else? He was an incredible talent.
You forgot to say that Mel was a very comfortable piano player, too.
Thanks, you said it for me. He was an all around talent. Arrancer, composer, songwriter, and what a voice.
Getting the best voicings on the Uke. I think he must be using a low G string.
Damn ! Pretty nice voice ! I need lesson to know the music theory its chinese for me ....
