I didn’t see this broadcast at the time so this is new to me.
Yes, I feel really sorry for both Ann and Wesley, I know what it’s like when the studio equipment wants to do it’s own thing when you are live on air. Quite a few years ago now I set up and interviewed Wesley and linked back on a live programme to the Radio Cherwell studios at the Churchill Hospital in Oxford via a Nokia 3510i from the reception area, the only place that I could get a signal, from the Abingdon Model Railway Exhibition at the The White Horse Leisure & Tennis Centre, Audlett Drive, Abingdon.
Wesley collects model buses and I have a collection too and added a trolleybus to mine.
There are still road signs in Abingdon directing to the Central TV studios although sadly the studios and Central are long gone.

When I first saw this air I felt so bad for Anne and Wes, I was surprised they bothered to come back the next night....

You can hear the gallery screeching down talkback quite a lot during this.... there’s an audible ‘oh my gawd what ARE the DOING?’ at one point

The control room (gallery) would be in utter chaos trying to right the programme.

Oh, dear lord! It's funny, but it's painful to watch those poor presenters like rabbits in headlights at the fact that they are trying to keep a shipwreck barely poking above water. They look terrified, particularly her. I think the line which really told the tragedy was "That, I'm afraid to say, was the first in our special Central News South news programmes.". If it hadn't been the big launch, it wouldn't have been quite as monumentally embarrassing. By coincidence, I'd only recently watched a ten minute item on the launch of Central South. Top man being interviewed was asked if all that technology was going to work, he replied "Yes.", albeit with a hesitant pause and an unconfident smile. The other line I love is "Tim Hurst, in Gloucester, has been finding out more... And he'll be filling us in on that, a little later in the programme.". That was an absolute quality attempt at a save by the man. Unfortunately let down immediately, but nice work.

I really feel for them. What went so wrong that nothing worked? I’d love to have been a fly in the wall in the post show post mortem.

Now here's a question, does anyone have the East edition from this date? I imagine it must survive due to that being where the aforementioned plane crash took place...

GB News probably surpasses this….but it’s taken 32 years. The above clip is somehow more panicked though

I don't think even GB News can match this for concentrated cringe. Not just the production, the script too. I know they have to look for local angles on stuff, but "stewardess from Aylesbury had cuts and bruises" doesn't really cut it. And poor Anna having to tell local viewers which county their news gathering HQ is in. And the Wesley's intro on Gloucester Station?!
