Did you basically connected a jumper wire from the ground wire to the open port? Where did you buy the jumper wire and will any jumper wire work ?
    Thanks

Double A yes the brown wire on the radio side of the plug goes to nothing on the power supply side, so by connecting the brown wire via that open port to one of the ground wires, it will go into the "low power mode". i used a small piece of wire i had laying around, i think it was a 16 gage or so, by stripping away a little insulation on each end inserting into the ports. ive since made a more permanent solution with a switch ua-cam.com/video/8yiNeAblpS0/v-deo.html

When I connected a 16 gauge wire from the ground wire to the open port on the power supply side, no change was noticed. However, when I connected it to the black wire on the power supply side it worked. Any ideas?
      Thanks

Double A with the wire harness plug connected, ground should be ground. the only thing I can think of is the jumper wire just didn't make contact with the conductor....maybe a tight fit or the insulation blocked the connection. I did find on occasion if the harness was bumped/jarred/moved, the jumper would briefly lose contact putting the radio back into normal mode for a moment. Soldering a switch in fixed that issue.

re-reading your comment, i may have misunderstood what you were referring to...basically getting the brown wire to touch a black wire is how it works. there is an open port on the power supply side of the wire harness plug that goes to nothing at all, i may have caused confusion in referring to that open port earlier. Hopefully that helps.
