Richard Chamberlain was astounding as Father Ralph. The Thorn Birds was such a success was largely (not all but a huge part of it) due to Richard's portrayal of Ralph. The Thorn Birds won Emmy awards for Best Actress Barbara Stanwyck, Best Supporting Actress Jean Simmons and Best Supporting Actor Richard Kiley. How was it possible that Richard did not win the Emmy for Best Actor for The Thorn Birds? It's as if Jamie Lee Curtis and Ke Huy Quan won Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor Oscars for Everything Everywhere All At Once and Michelle Yeoh Did Not win Best Actress Oscar for EEAAO!!! I believe the Emmy Award should honor Richard with a special Emmy to celebrate all the wonderful mini series (he was the King of the Mini Series) and movie performances that Richard has given us over the years! 👏👏👏💖💖💖
forgive the long comment as I choose not to spam the comment section RIP to those that have since passed away most recently (limit is 2 people, years capped at 3) Piper Laurie and Norman Lear (I can't tell if Joe Flaherty was there only Andrea and Eugene got to speak for SCTV) They're going to make the accountants sing aren't they? so that's what Kukla and Ollie look like in Color, I've seen bits of them in several Jim Henson docs (man Tillstrum's having a problem working Ollie there) oh yikes Michael Conrad will have passed away not long after this ceremony wonder why Bob Barker didn't appear with the game show hosts oh man they're singing too 33:21 right the tv hall of fame would be a thing (shame they didn't have them on every emmy award show the 1991 ceremony did...Philo Farnsworth should have been among the first inductees) 37:50 quiet the reboot gods will hear you yeah take a good listen people this won't be the last time we'll be hearing from Brooks and Sakai and Simon (man Brooks really had a way with people didn't he?) and they zoomed on Eddie on that why? Leontyne Price is as of this posting still alive at 97 years old you know it's amazing that Cheers managed to get that much emmy attention considering that it was very close to being cancelled in it's first year I imagine the rules changed after Hill Street Blues hogged the Drama writing category that year let me guess the workout hosts are going to come out and sing too?...nope just a bunch of dancers 1:30:35 nice to see that she got to have her moment in the sun, though I feel bad for Jennifer Beals because her career kind of suffered w hen it was revealed a body double did the dancing (she actually turned down Dancing with the Stars) For those wondering and not wanting to google Lucky Strike was a brand of cigarettes, it even sponsored Jack Benny in his radio days oh geez are the talk show hosts going to sing? aww Pee Wee Herman before he really took off (man I kind of wish Paul Reubens had a talk show) 1:47:09 hoo boy and then bailed on him to host a show on FOX and how well did that go? hmm I looked up John Flynn III he pulled through from what he ended up in the hospital for, as of this posting he is also still alive hmm I'm guessing there must have been a tie in the nomination procedure for best leading actress in a comedy since there's 6 nominees rather than 5 Don't worry Danson you'll get yours in 1990 (hell if I got an emmy from the Simpsons I'd treasure the hell out of it) 2:09:46 yeah so was M*A*S*H* 2:13:26 brace yourselves the Wayans are coming Boy did that camera person miss their cue when the best actresses in a dramatic series were read The Thorn birds was one of the last things Barbara Stanwyck ever did (and then she joined the Dynasty franchise) man this was long, with the length I saw I half expected to see commercials but this was just a really long ceremony
