I have loved this album, and Jan & Dean for many years. For all the doo-wop fans, there's a great cover version of "Get A Job", made famous in 1958 by the Silhouettes. I am assuming it was a song that Jan enjoyed listening to as a young man because on the old "garage tape" heard on the Teen Suite CD you can hear Jan jokingly start to sing it while working on "Gotta Get A Date".
Drag City is an AWESOME album that really showcased the talents of Jan Berry as a producer and arranger, and Jan was able to get a pretty big budget for it at the time making it one of the more expensive albums for Libery to put out in those days. Interesting sidenote to this LP, when "The Who" first came to the states at one of their first press conferences, Keith Moon was asked what is the first thing he wants to do here in the US, and he simply replied, "I want to meet the guy who played the drums on Drag City"...Keith was a HUGE fan of Jan & Dean.
Thank you so much Jan and Dean was one of my favorite artist as a teenager. I was big into cars surfing not so much but I love the car scene I subscribed so I’m looking forward to hearing all the old Jan and Dean music that you can throw at me. God bless you and I appreciate your efforts.❤
At 5 years old Jan & Dean were my first true obsession in music. It's the music my parents grew up on but 50's/60's Doo Wop, Rockabilly, Surf etc...have remained a focal point of my music collection to this day. Really cool to some mention of Jan's solo album. In general I've always thought Jan & Dean as a duo and Jan Berry as a producer, writer & performer are incredibly under appreciated. To me the overall end result of Second Wave is irrelevant, anytime I hear it I just think to myself "you got this Jan!"
