I am a ,moderate , Conservative ,always have voted such ,Conservative and cannot understand really for the life of me why our current govt apparently will not or seems like doesnt intend to ,get with the program and ante up to spend the money needed ,on defense or at least put in place serious plan to do so ,to meet the 2% mark . Instead they the liberals have made a deal with the further left NDP on a national pharmacare program , of all things , a move designed by the liberal govt with help of their ndp allies to stay in power ,, and this move for which ,the pharmacare deal ,they so far have not released the price tag for , that being nothing which inspires any confidence , and sure not to come cheap . And to add in on subject of momey, more money yet ,recently going to Ukraine ,which I myself personally sympathize with ,but is more money going out the door ,out of the country, and into the pharmacare deal, and not into tbe hands of our soldiers who need it, also not taking any step towrds meeting our treaty obligations .
and this all in face of statements by such as the US Nato ambasador , and by Natos Secretary General on the topic of not meeting the 2% standrard.. not to mention by trump who is all but assured really to be the GOP nominee and a 50/50 chance at leadt of regabiing the white housw, and who has said about Nato countries not metting their commitmenra ,as russia doing 'whatver the hell they want ' and or US not helping in such a situation .at thos point I think Canada would be almost 1st in line in that unfortnately ,and not sure how much even our European Nato allies would help us in such a case ,given that France has also made statement or 2 on topic of our defense spending.

Let's put these two in comparison, a single US Navy "Ticonderoga" class cruiser can carry almost the same amount of VLS and missiles the entire Canadian surface naval fleet can carry. Yet you still hear about how Canadians and their officials bragging about the capability of Canadian Navy. These kinda denial and inaction are gonna cost Canadian lives. Also not having capable ships means Canadian Navy can not carry out major operations alone, instead they need more capable ships from NATO allies to "babysit" them during almost every operation.

To be fair, US would never let Canada be invaded since they share a border with them meaning that a successful invader would be right on US border.
What is the consequence of freeloading may be on the economical front. US may get sick of it and start making "tough" deal and protecting their economies from competition of Canada.
Another consequence is if ressources are found in the north. Canada have pretty much no chance of deterring Russia from taking anything they want with their current armed force. The American may not care to help Canada secure their share of those ressources. Military capabilities actually have an effect on "soft" power.

In WWII, Canada had the third largest Navy in the world, and we protected shipping lanes across the Atlantic. Now, we can barely patrol our own coastline, which actually IS the largest in the world. Canada has always been good at punching above our weight class, but should we really have to punch UP? We should be IN their weight class. The fact that we only had 4 spare Leopards in working order to send Ukraine is rather pitiful. Our defence spending went up a bit in 2009, but has been in a general trend of decline since 1986 when it WAS at 2%, so as much as people like to bash on Trudeau for everything wrong with Canada, that's not all on him. Unable to deploy a frigate, so two virtual tug boat "warships" sent to Baltics "in support of NATO". Not invited to an exclusive 5th Gen Red Flag with the UK, Australia and US. NOT invited to participate in AUKUS nuke sub agreement. No fighter deployment to largest NATO air defence excercise since end of Cold War in Germany. UNABLE to generate a brigade size force for Latvia inside of 3 years. Not willing to upgrade SAR helicopters to full Norwegian standard. Extending life of Chretien's green painted civilian helicopters instead of buying real army helicopters. As others have pointed out, ZERO capability to patrol and defend arctic relative to growing threat. No ability to fill 10K positions with anybody, let alone the preferred gender pronouns of this incompetent government. And on. And on. And on...

That's why Canada needs to look seriously at law and policy to implement a so-called "National Defense Education" or "National Defense Program Outline," this would boost military personnel and reserves like Sweden, Israel, Japan, South Korea, and others. Canada spent 40 billion for the Norad upgrade. We have 90 f-35 in the works great. We need a navy fleet for both East and West. 1 advanced Fleet including inflation would cost 85 billion CAD. That Fleet comprises: 1 aircraft Carrier, 4 Destroyers (Arleigh Burke-class Flight III), 2 Wasp-class Amphibious Assault Ships, 2 Virginia-class Submarines, 2 Constellation Cruiser/frigate,1 Joint Support Ship (JSS), 1 Repair and Maintenance Ship, 1 Global Mercy Hospital Ship, Tug and Salvage Ship, Submarine Tender= total 16 ships. We need 2 fleets so 85*2 170 billion CAD and 32 ships. Upgrading the Naval shipbuilding shipyard in Canada 1 facility 35 billion, we need 3 35*3=105 billion CAD to boost production speed.

And Canadian aircraft do intercepts of russian aircraft incl bombers in the High Arctic incl in the eastern Arctic, and sometimes staging out of Whitehorse and Yellowknife in the Yukon and NWT . And Canada also participates in Arctic exercises ,with or Allies in with our exercises, with US, Danish (who patrol/ around huge Greenland) also with the Brits and or French
and must be noted Canada about 5th in Nato or after the US in defense spending (out of 31 or 32 countries), about tied w/ Italy. So while we dont have all we should probly, but its (definitely) not nothing either, our defense spending still increasing , n Canada having recently bought 88 F 35s, Canada to have the largest F 35 fleet in Nato after the US . and also the state of the art Type 26 frigates ordered, to replace the Halifax class ships & on more than 1:1 basis ,and Canada to build the Type 26s alongside /with the Brits and Australia

Ha!, this red shirted woman answered the question just like the dinks avoiding answers in the u.s.
    Increasing?
Ignores the questions, then goes off to spout stuff to make it seem like they have been doing something, also she makes a statement that come close to saying people at home are dim and just don't understand things.
Every question asked is answered the exact same, dodged, then a bunch of other stuff explained to make it seem like she has been doing something.
These "world leaders" seem to be treating everything like some sort of competition and it looks like they are constantly trying to justify their own importance in their jobfields.
Usually when someone does a good job, its seen and noticed, you don't need to explain what your doing as if those watching are blind or dimwhitted or something.
It is what it is, a lier is a lier, a thief a thief and a person who does a good job is a person doing a good job.
Most of these people have to constantly explain how doing what seems like little or nothing, is doing a lot.
NO NOTICEABLE CHANGE IN ANYTHING IN THE PAST 10-20 YEARS.
Betcha they keep going, and give themselves raises in a year or so because they believe they did a good job.
While inflation keeps going and groceries get more expensive, rent constantly rises every time that it can, wages stay below poverty or just at poverty level (unless your a croock) and god and religion is used as a weapon and a tool for judgement, instead of for love and peace. Oh and to mention some that stay unseen......
Hackers basically turning into bullies and intelligent big babies, hiding behind screens, while the countries they live in fall apart.
Most that read this might not understand, maybe think this is too negative or just one dumb person's comment.
or they can note the stuff mentioned and if really wanting change find me and ask more defining questions.
Where I have seen problems, I have also seen options for solutions as well.
Because god is a good father and he wants us(one of his children) to excel and like someone else thousands of years ago said, " I love to see them smile, I am happy."

It is true Canada's spending has been lower than the 2% amount, but we were also in the middle of most European countries before Covid & the Ukrainian invasion. At that point the European countries upped their spending while Canada stayed behind, not having any serious threat. (Another reason to hate the Liberals, but I digress.) We need to protect our sovereignty and we couldn't do it right now. Now let's not totally blame the liberals. It's other governments previous and we can go back 40 years of neglect of the military so everybody can point fingers at each other but that's not going to solve our problem in terms of lack of defense of our own country. It's time to wake up. Canadians we need to step up and do our part regardless of what the blah blah blah nonsense coming out of the liver government today about our contributions, it still falls far short for what is required to be a NATO member.
