  • Before the Broadway opening, go behind the scenes of librettist Doug Wright, composer Scott Frankel, lyricist Michael Korie, and director Michael Greif’s newest musical. Two-time Tony Award winners Patti LuPone and Christine Ebersole star as America’s first major female entrepreneurs and relentless and legendary rivals, Helena Rubinstein and Elizabeth Arden. LuPone and Ebersole joined the creative team for a moderated discussion and performance excerpts. Vanity Fair special correspondent Amy Fine Collins moderated the panel discussion. Recorded on January 22, 2017.

I'm excited to hear/see this show. But this interview is so dull. I'd rather watch war paint dry.

I didn't watch the whole video, I just watched the part where they sing 'Face to Face'. I kind of noticed the way Patti sings is quite different, like she has an accent. Is it because she's really trying to act or speak like Helena Rubinstein? If so, then WOW. I don't realy know a lot about Patti but does she really sing like that or it's just because it's her character?

It is because her character had an accent, that is why she is singing like that

Abet Llonoso yeah she mimics Helena's Polish accent...she maintains it amazingly throughout the show!

wow, what a depressing advertisement for a musical!!!
1st, those two broads were stereotypes and should be played as such. They are not Olga and Masha from The Three Sisters with lipstick. The score is depressing sounding bad Sondheim, and what this WAR PAINT needs is a serviceable Cole Porter style score of wicked fun and games. The book is probably the best in the bunch besides the obvious choice stars. But the musical score, at least these 2 numbers are just labored and not fun. All the Patty queens myself included will be there to pay homage, and pray this one lasts longer than the Almodovar lemon. Ebersol is perfect. Amy Fein, your contribution would have been greater had you excused yourself from the forum. Rubinstein would agree.

Actually the score has up tempo, lively numbers as well. I just think the interview only included slower, vulnerable numbers. Listen to Back on Top and you will see the difference.
