I consider Jack Nicklaus to be on of the great Putters. He keep the clubface square to the target line using a right arm piston action.

The GOAT addressed the ball with his hands ahead of the back of the ball. So much so, that he had to be using a putter with 9-10 degrees loft. Do that with todays putters( 2-4 degree loft) and we would be driving the ball into the ground. Have to do some hosel bending to putt like the GOAT.

You want zero loft at ball impact; this produces true roll. Since virtually every putter has loft, you have to put your hands ahead of the ball.
