Thanks for the video. I got one like your TruGlo and I've been messing with the dang thing for about 3 days trying to get the fiber out of the mount base so I could run the screw thru it down into the gun before I realized I was supposed to thread one end into the base and the other to gun... Man I feel stupid!
The sight I am talking about is a quarter of the size your is in the video. I turned it one revolution counter clockwise and it doesnt seem to be protruding in the bore anymore. It is all one piece. I guess the previous owner just turned the hell out of it to get it to turn that one more turn. I dont think its loose enough to move when I fire it. I will have to test it this weekend. Thanks
michael casey HI Michael, I read your response on this video. I believe my 870 (bought in 2008) has the pressed in one since I have tried to unscrew it with no luck. Do you have a video or can recommend one for how to tap and remove this type. And do you know if you do this can you then put on a fiber optic one that needs to be screwed in.
It is a pain but it can be pulled out. If you have access to a vise use a couple pieces of thin wood and block your barrel in the vise. Next protect the area around the sight with tape or an old sock and use a pair of side cutters or bullnose pliers and grab the old sight and twist and pull. If you can get under the bead and pry up it will start to move after you get frustrated. Just be persistent and you will get it. I suggest you buy two taps. The first one to start the thread and the second one will need to have the point ground flat because the hole is very shallow. This link is the cheapest taps you will find and they work well. Just use a ton of lubricant and don't try to cut the whole thread at once, let it bite and back it out then go again. pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=140898827283 If you have more questions feel free to contact me.
I bought one with a site like this already on it but I can feel the screw sticking through and feel it protruding inside the bore. What can I do to fix this? This cant be normal? Is it a big deal?
sounds too me like the screw is not screwed up all the way into the sight remove it and check it out,,but if its screwed up all the into the sight, then ,i would use a a dremel tool to grind it down the protruding end , just make sure you dont grind too much, keep me updated
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks
Thank you so much for your video it has been helpful for me ...

And depending on what 870 you have the front sight might not unscrew. Some are pressed in and a major pain to remove. Then you have to tap the hole.

I'd imagine it's by design, it'd keep the fiber optic under pressure as to hold it in place under recoil?
they make them for all types of guns
Did you fart?
