Well, "my friend", my comment was an answer to Turkishman72 who said, "he [Caesar] killed Jesus." Since you seem to be so educated, you might know that such a statement is pure BS. However, my comment somehow didn't show up where it should have. That should be enough of an explanation. Scio Romae tunc imperatores appellatum esse et Mel Gibson non serium auxilium est. Cheers
When i was young I used to think it would be really cool to be a Roman and fight and live for Rome. But as knowledge has grown on me, I've since seen that Rome was a harsh and brutal world where soldiers were fodder for Consuls and Dynasties who cared little about anyone save themselves. Whole families murdered, constant assassinations and attempted assassinations, exiles, public executions and rising higher in power meant only all the more people wanted you dead.
In what way was he a tyrant though? He was very popular with the people. Ignoring the fact that history would have been completely altered had Pompey and so we may not even be here as we are, then yes you are right that he may have been portrayed as a tyrant. However, that is because Pompey and the other optimates thought os him as such. The people did not.
Actually, he wasn't known for genocide but for his clemency. He spared many of his enemies in the Civil War, and was literally SENT to Gaul to reconquer the land north of Rome and keep the Germans and Celts away from the boarders (something that had been terrifying the Romans since Gauis Marius had been consul). I think that what Marius acheived was more along the lines of corruption, and that Caesar managed to acheive a median between corruption and change.
@teslagod2003 1. Yes, I knew the bible has been "edited"; 2. Where are you basing your claim? This is your personal opinion and you have no evidence for it. The bible is simply the greatest piece of literature of all of humankind, still being published for thousands of years; 3. The bible is not a history book (it is about theology), but you can learn a lot about the history of Near East and its old civilizations. The work of archaeologists would be much harder without information from the bible
@teslagod2003 So we have something in common, I don't like religion either (it is man-made and that is why is so "faulty", to say the least) The respect for God is on the rubbish, and that is why we live in such a world. But that is not God's nor the bible's fault, it is our. It is up to you what you are gonna do with the knowledge from the bible... See ya
Caesar was a nephew or Marius, the champion of the poor and the army. He fought his whole life against the entrenched rich and lazy. He earned everything he got. He took risks and usually won. He never quaked before the Dictator Sulla. When the Germans invaded Burgundy and Austria/Switzerland they murdered several hundred thousand Gauls. Caesar knew the rule of war was victory or death. He lived and died by that.
i shall not hate those who harmed me in previous lives and historians are trying to give evidence to why reincarnation does exist. julius was a fantastic leader but so was hercules my hellenistic hero and sexy xena also my other favourite hellenistic hero : ) : )
Pompey was an old fool... he couldnt hit water if he fell of a boat...if Caesar was never assassinated, the whole of Rome would have been so much stronger...things did spiral a bit though when Crassus was killed in Parthia i think it was...
@teslagod2003 I am aware of everything you just said, as I am a history lover and Christian Apologetic. People can use anything for their personal will. The Theory of Evolution was used by the Nazis to justify the Holocaust and the supremacy of the best fit, but it doesn't mean there is something wrong with the Theory itself. The problem was when it was used in the wrong way. Yes, unfortunately human-beings use the bible for politics... so what?
@cecevans "New"? haha, funny... probably the oldest book still been published today, be considered a new thing. Where have you been for the last 3 thousand years?
@EdikShepherd China was an untested giant, while Rome was a battle-hardened giant that had proven its worth against the likes of Hannibal, Pyrrhus, and others. In the Mediterranean you not only had a variety of cultures, you also had a variety of concepts of warfare, and this forced Rome to constantly adapt and reevaluate its strategy.
@Fez1408 Ancient China... honestly? Their forces were nowhere near as organized, disciplined, and well armed as the legionaries. Their coffers were also fairly small compared to the entirety of all the Roman families together. And their fighting style was inferior as well, too much fines and too little focus on killing the enemy. Ancient Europe will smoke ancient Asia any day.
@Dutchman931 A fair few people care. A fair few people who are interested as to how one of the most important empires in western history transitioned from a republic to an empire.
@MetallicaFan035 Well... perhaps not during the early Middle Ages, as seen with the Mongols, but as soon as the Renaissance hit and plate mail was introduced, we kicked serious ass again.
Not one person in this discussion knows anything about history! Josephus was a Jewish writer that originally was part of the Jewish uprising against Rome but was captured by Vespasian and his son,Titus< and ended up becoming a client of theirs, even taking on the Roman cognomen of Flavius, which was the family name of Vespasian, Titus and Domitian. You'd better let your teacha reach ya!
JM mclovin alexander was talked a lot about in Caesars time a lot of Roman emporers compared themselves to Alexander. Caesar actaully encountered a statue of Alexander in Hispania (now knowns as spain). He felt an underachiever since he was at an age where alexander had the world at his feet. He did have that conquering spirit about him how he conquered gaul (france) and he invaded England and Germania. Trajan is another one that compared himself to alexander since after beating decavulus
Both history and the bible are somewhat biased since both are written retrospectively on many occasions, but there are certain things that historically are accurate. Bible and history converge on many accounts. This is one of them - since it is easy to pin down time, rulers, hegemonies, mentality in place of this event. Therefore, yes, I will stick to my point here. Although I am sure how Kenites were involved, that's the comment below by @gaiuskaiser. Maybe he can elaborate.
My friend, read your bible, or you can watch Mel Gibson's movie, it is also historically pretty accurate. Rome did not take Jesus that serious - they said he is a lunatic, and did not want to crucify him, but Jewish high priests felt very threatened since Jesus was preaching against a lot of their meaningless rituals, and proclaimed himself a king. They were the ones who wanted him tortured and dead. Rome literally left Jesus for Jewish authorities to deal with.
For your information, there were many Caesers during Roman empire's time. For instance, Octavius was called a Caeser during his life time, Marcus Aurelius was also called a Caeser. Anyways, you are not getting the point that this conversation is trying to get to (i.e. by whose office Jesus was condemned), my friend.
If Alexander was so great with government, his empire would not fall apart. For a king that ruled for only 13 years, he did great. However his structure cannot last as he didn't appoint a approved heir. He spent the majority of his time campaigning, not governing.
And yes, Jesus is mentioned by Josephus in his writings, among quite a few writers of the time. he was born (Jesus) during the principate of Augustus and later crucified during the reign of the emperor Tiberius, the successor of Augustus. Don't let your ignorance be your DOWNFALL! Repent!
I strongly suggest every person who reads this comment to read Conn iggulden's Emperor series. The first one is called the gates of rome. Those books bring Julius, Brutus, and even Octavian to life. I just finished the last book. Those books will change your view on life. Please read them.
@MrPontiusPilate Of course they do. Genocide makes its home in war, which is the bearer of fortune to the victor. You cannot deny that in our 'modern civilized world', that war for profit does not exist.
@pimpin702101 As an Atheist my belief in 'Jesus' is miniscule. And even so, you Christians thank and worship his death seeing as it 'forgave all of our sins' and he was resurrected...apparently.
MaskoftheWraith this is true back then it was just life many people were already trying to change it back then but that was common life so tecnichally they werent really being "evil".
Think of this! If Pompey had won aginst Caesar in the civil war, then if we watch'd a documentary of Julius Caesar today, they woud be talking about how he was such a tyrant.
julius was a transvestite so he killed jews and christians mostly : ) julius is one of my heroes : ) even constantine knew the important of the hellenistic way of life.
i met julius in my dream and i lost his pet rabbit and put the blame on me but i was rescued by gaulish missionaries and i woke up from my telepathic dream : )
@dpsantos1994 Just look at the examples of Galileo Galilei and the library of Alexandria. So much knowledge lost, and now we could be much more advanced.
It was the era of preparation for new political system, as now. The cycles of history are repeated - the senate and democracy become a brake. Bright leaders are necessary today.
@psudsl2010 I'm talking advanced in terms of knowledge.... Knowledge lost to the christian church because they said it was heresy. During the Dark Ages there were almost none or little technological advance. And that makes me angry... we could be in Mars by now xD
I hate history class, but this for English class. My mom is letting me use her account to watch some crap-video that our English teacher sent us. I'm not dissing on the guy who made this video, or the video... I'm dissing on school. School; that one useless thing that they claim will help you. Why I do need to know about Ceaser? I don't give a crap! I've got friends, a life... I can't waste my time watching this!!! So, I'm typing this abnormally long comment as a means of ignoring this video. What is WITH teachers. "OK class , this is English, but we're going to learn about history so we can understand this story better. I sent your parents this video, so you have to watch it, you have no CHOICE." BTW thanks for reading this far.; I'm surprised you're so interested in my rambling. Anyway, school SEEMS great, because you can see your friends and slack and stuff, but all the extra work and stress... it's not cool. Teachers be like "DO DIS DO DAT DO ALL UR WURK" And i be sitting here like "I ANT DOING THIS MR TEACHER MAN WHO U BOSSIN AROUND?" Anyway, video is over, gotta watch Part Two. WIsh me luck...
i love julius caesar
Bravo, many thanks.
@TheGuinnessboys did u ever here of the show deadliest warrior? would have wanted to see a match between alexander and caesar
Why would that be?
@MrDiamondexpert funny i am too

@beach real, ditto
true but the world at the time was a harsh place regardless of where you were. Kings and Emperors ruled everywhere
Julius Caesar was actualy a very just and kind man to his allies but crushed his opponents plus a great poltician and general
Caesar rekt them all lol he could 360 nosc anyone now m8 lol u crazy noonga

Correct. Had he been more ruthless, he would not have been murdered by those he had pardoned. A brilliant man, the greatest of the Romans!!

@jhille85 Good book, although it is boring at times.
What is that beautiful repeating piano rift at at 4.32 mins in this video??..It's so delicate and beautiful, yet has a haunting capacity..

Wrong. Pompey would not be able to change the fact that an empire was emerging from an anarchy.
Rest In Peace Julius Caesar.

Nobody will ever be greater the the greatest..Alexander The Great.
Julius Caesar was the greatest Roman Leader of them all
Correction. Caesar was a nephew in law of Marius.
The attached article explains the circumstances of Caesar's birth: www.crackedhistory.com/july-12-100-b-c-julius-caesar-born-caesarian-section/

Thank you uploader watched it years ago and still liked it. Caesar what a general and knew how to lead.

we should be like romans here in america if we expect to last another 100 years. we are to weak today. white young men dont fight enough.
You should actually learn latin instead of doing copy and paste, it's verum dominus, imperium maius, and so on not altogether.
@ultradumbass Nobody is saying troy did or didn't existed. I simply poked fun at you for using the bible as evidence.
he was brilliant and ruthless. Which is why he accomplished what he did. brutal or not he made a scar on the earth.
You really need to consult a history book.
Jesus died round 33 A.D.
Caesar died in 44 B.C.
Rings a bell?
Napoleon was unlike both Caesar and Hitler...because he was attacked first,he fought in defense.
he didn't destroy rome. he actually restored it, the republic was corrupted and deteriorating.
Yet again the topic of another youtube video is being tied into a religious debate. Yay!!!!
You need to know Latin to understand. The name of your sword is in your name as well ...
@JohnnyBoyCali Since you read them...What happened at the end of the second book?
Ave Imperator
If Pompey had won against Caesar we probably would not even be here right now.
I hate taking cornell notes )_)
pause at 7:30 :p looks like he just spotted a tiger running towards him
@vorotnikova No it's not correct. Jesus gave his life for human race.
It was the era of preparation for new political system, as now. The cycles of history are repeated - the senate and democracy become a brake. Bright leaders are necessary today.
No, Trajan RULED more land than any Roman, not conquered.
I see caesar statue In atlantic city,New Jersey!
I disagree. Those books weren't that good.
pontifax maximas is the current day pope?
