Reasons not to sleep on the Chargers
1. They have one helluva O-Line
2. The RB room now has at least 2 legit starters, possibly 3 with Vidal.
3. The Chargers have a top-notch special teams unit in the first season of the new rules.
4. They have Justin Herbert, an elite QB that can make good WRs great
5. The Chargers lost Williams and Lindsley (pro bowl center) and Herbert injured his thumb early in the season. Yet they lost 10 games by 1 TD and 7 of those were by a field goal or less.
6. The Chargers have a weak schedule this year
7. The defense has holes but it also has Mack, Bosa, Derwin, Colson (knows this Minter Defense), Dupree, Perriman, and ASJ. The tackling is gonna be way better.
8. The offense has Alt, Slater on the o-line, Gus Bus/Dobbins at RB, Ladd, Palmer, QJ at WR, and Dissley and Hayden Hurst at TE (blocking TEs). Gregg Roman is going to give Herbert a running game to take the pressure off and his numbers will go up because his WRs will be more open because defenses will have to respect the run. And he will likely not have to throw from his back
9. Staley's coaching staff lost the room. The team quit on him. This guy was known for bone-headed calls and he mismanaged Derwin. The teams was seriously talented yet when injuries hit, the drop-off was catastrophic because he wasn't really coaching. It's easy to win with all pros. Coaching shows up in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th string too. Moreso even.
10. Jim Harbaugh has literally been a winner everywhere he has gone. Harbaugh with that team last year would have won 9 out of 10 of those 1 TD games. He's won everywhere, taking those programs from worst to first in the first season he coached them....with lesser talent. Alex Smith was a bust when Harbaugh arrived in SF. Kap wasn't on anyone radar for QB. And how did he fare after Harbaugh left. And I would venture to say, Herbert is waaaaay better than either of those two.
A lot of people focus on the talent lost. Keenan will be missed. Williams and Lindsley when healthy were as good as anyone. Ekeler was very good for what he did. But people are not paying attention to the new additions to the team. These are not the same old Chargers. They'll absolutely be in the playoffs in 2024 season.

@dhaas4698 First the chargers lost NO talent .. Eckler was horrible, Mike Williams was ALWAYS hurt, even the games he played he would sit on the sideline for a half after making 3 catches , Keenan Allen was a WR 1 that averaged 11 yards a catch (horrible) and all the other guys that left gave no effort and dropped passes and missed tackles. Do your research.. the Chargers are already a much better team and coached team

The chargers aren’t worse than last year. Everyone thinks that Harbaugh is just one guy but he brings with him a caliber of coaches that Staley(and most other HC’s around the league) just can’t hold a candle to. Every position improves alone by that

I love blanket statements like "Harbaugh knows how to coach." Meaning what? Sean Payton doesn't know how to coach.....Andy Reid doesnt know how to coach? Chargers always get love from analysts in July. How's that been working out?

The Chargers are NOT ready to compete in 2024! This is a way bigger lift than anybody wants to admit. Their cap situation was so bad they had to trade away their only weapons. Then re-work deals with Mack who’s at the end and Bosa who’s living off his brother’s reputation. They’re massively overpaying James for how they use him. QJ looks like a bust, Palmer is a JAG, Dobbins and Edwards are always hurt. Herbert may do enough to save them once he has some talent to work with. The defense has been one of the worst in the NFL for 3-4 years and unless Minter has some magic fairy dust they’ll be below average again. This is WAY closer to a full rebuild than people will admit because of Herbert and Harbaugh. But his big boy money kicks in after this year and he’ll have to win with less around him. Hasn’t done ANYTHING with a stacked team around him, this will be interesting. Feels way more like 8-9 or 9-8 than even sniffing the playoffs!!
That’s staley not Jim and second yeah not this year but we can make a playoff push this year and make teams knows that we are going to be here for the upcoming years
