This recently cropped up whilst I was on UA-cam and I have throughly enjoyed every episode of your journey restoring and saving that bus . Bit late to the party as I’m only on episode 20, but I take my hat off to you for keeping that bus going. I’m glad it came up on my UA-cam. Brilliant Well done 👍
I haveonly just discovered this series Pete and the more I watch I have decided that you are the love child of Mr Poppy and Jim Carey, fab fab and a pleasure to watch!!
Not sure why this dropped in to my recommended but having watched (binge watched) up to #14 all I can say is I am truly impressed by the quality, the humour , the candour, the humility , the everything . Thank you. Absolutely brilliant
Same here, also been binge-watching up until episode 14. It’s now 01h00 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Will continue in a couple of hours. Thanks Pete for sharing your fantastic adventure !
Each bit you get done gives that sense of accomplishment and how the bus is now that bit improved. No wonder many get the blues when they fully complete a project.
I think I am watching just for your gags But back to primer all color changes depending on the color of the primer I use to always use light grey primer to give a nice red Red primer if you want a darker red Black if you want a very dark red Off to number 16 love your work Pete and a manual xjs that would be the first one I have ever seen 😍😍👍👍
My gags are so terrible, some people actually like em.. ;) Indeed, primer has a big effect on your finish. I've taken expert advice on this and you'll see the colour I end up with in the next episode. The grey is simply the self etching primer used to paint onto aluminium. Thanks for all your comments and support David.
1st minute completely agree, today I've been welding up the rear quarter of my 32 yr old golf.. yeah not as simple as it first seems! 1.5 days later finally complete how much steel did I have to put in! Completely feel the pain but you know what it's enjoyable thinking I did that.. good on you..
Very interesting Kinda strange how I just came across it As I actually drove these in service in the 90’s But really enjoying your videos Great job your doing buddy
XJ, an understated classic When you drill out a rivet, during renovation, I think you've done two or maybe three tops, presumably the captured parts fall into the recesses?
Yes, sometimes bits will fall in between the panels. Those bits and all the thousands of previous pieces will then go on the journey from there on out.
A Beautifal looking XJS there Pete, most of the ones I have seen are auto so nice to see a manual. A Riviting and entertaining watch as always Pete, looking forward to the next episode.
Don't worry about the time taken! Project Binky (Bad Obsession Motorsport) has taken 4 years to get to paint! :-O You claim no training, but this is a superb build! One that many professionals would be proud of! :-) Keep safe! :-)
Bit of a technical one, do you need a regular PCV operators licence to drive the bus around, and does it need a tacho and a PCV Licence? Big fan of the channel I watched all 18 episodes last night lol
Hi bud, thanks so much for your kind words, glad you're enjoying it! Now, this is a huge grey area because the DVLA make it very confusing and everybody seems to interpret the rules differently. This is how I have it: I insure it as a catering unit for around £1000 per year and I have an independent public liability policy at around £150 per year. This allows me to drive the bus and operate as a bar. Because I don't trade as a business on the move, I am able to have it MOT exempt, tax free and am allowed to drive it on standard car license because it’s classed as historic and I’m over 30. It's MOT class 5, and I can only carry up to 8 people at a time including myself but no stock! It's not allowed to carry a load. I've only ever been pulled over once and the officers actually asked ME how it worked cos they had no idea. haha! Hope that answers your question. Thanks for your support! The facebook page has lots on it too if you fancy more bus stuff, PAHB style obvs! ;) facebook.com/peteandhisbus
@@PeteAndHisBus PAHB style is why I watched every episode in a row lol. Can’t wait for your next project. Quite right Pete, there’s no such thing as a stupid question…. Unless you’re asking the same thing time and again (que your engineering journeyman chucking a 2Lb ball pien hammer at you for not listening…….) Oh…. and the riveter is called “lazy tongs” round our way 😉😆👍
Hi Pete, does the 'inside' of the bus also need a good do-over? For example the engine or some rusty stuff at the bottom (assen en tandwielen, weet even het Engels niet...)
Hoi Robert!! All the mechanical stuff is SUPER strong. But I am going to service everything. Grease all the nipples, change all the fluids and do all the filters and te-charge the brakes. Then we’ll take it for a big drive and see how we get on. 🤞
Here's a question about episode 2, I think. Maybe 3? Anyway, when you converted the windows to hinge upwards there was suddenly a shot of you talking through an open window, but I didn't see any explanation of the mechanism you fitted to hold the windows in the open position. Sorry if I missed it, but can you explain? Thanks.

is that a route indicator above the window in the area above the engine compartment? just above your knee at 7:48 if that helps also i believe you have lost the plot with this bus
I lost the plot a long time ago ;) hahah Yes that little box with a window in it will have the route number in it. You can often see it on 2355 next to it.
