    Hello! Thank you so much for these videos. I inherited an HP 8561A from a former employer. While it errors out on the amplitude calibration, it still functions. I've used it a few times, just trial and error with some success. However, many of the functions you are demonstrating in your videos were not intuitively obvious to me when using the instrument and are very helpful! I have downloaded the manuals for the instrument and have referenced them. However, there is nothing better than an instructive video! Thanks again!

    I like when you say measure. “Mayyzure” 😂 it’s endearing

    The 8000 series cal does indeed take ages to do - if I remember right, it's because it characterises the YIG filter curve. The system takes a whole bunch of measurements and identifies the 3db cutoff frequencies. Very pretty to watch.

    I just bought the Rigol DSA815-TG Tracking Generator Spectrum Analyzer. But I've got the hp esa-1500a which I love to use

    I am jealous. Mine is not m=nearly as advanced. You definitely got your money's worth!

    You read my mind. I was about to ask about the window buttons since my 8560E doesn't have that feature and then you started talking about it. The CRT on yours looks great! Mine is a bit dim, but an LCD replacement is mighty expensive.

      I still haven't learned how to use it well yet. Too many other buttons have kept me busy

      you can do a zero span to convert freq domain to time. then it has an FFT routine to take it back to frequency. they claim the best way to analyze modulation. crazy stuff

      @@IMSAIGuy Yeah, there's so much packed into these devices. What year is yours from? Mine is around '94. Looks like the ROM is '97.

    Another great video for the geriatric apprentice! Please can you say what attenuation was needed for the Tiny SA if at all. I'm really concerned about connecting after all the dire warnings about overloading the front end mixer.

    Does the Tiny SA tracking output has a reasonable sinus wave output? Or harmonic present quite strong?

    • @IMSAIGuy
      @IMSAIGuy  3 роки тому

      It does not have tracking. I can be an SA or a Generator not both. It is not sinusoidal. Lots of harmonics

    Can you normalize the output of the tinySA used as TG with the HP?

    • @IMSAIGuy
      @IMSAIGuy  3 роки тому

      It does not track. it is asynchronous to the HP. having said that, yes you can normalize
