    This is ridiculous, Nissan needs to step up and replace this part with a new "improved" version FOR FREE...

      glad it worked for you, I tried to get Nissan to help with just parts, but they said they couldn't even help with that. so DIY had to be done.

      Has this worked well for you since you fixed it? I have a 2008, so it is not under a recall. Did you have to mess with the fuse at all?

  • @nottyash100
    @nottyash100 4 роки тому +1

    thank you that should save me from getting rid of my 2008. Your right about the crazy prices a Nissan dealer would charge, that is why when the door lock actuators failed I changed those my self, not too difficult.

    If somebody have this problem.... Take the cover from the steering and hit the steering lock a bunch of times with a hammer or something and that will work while the car is idle take the steering lock fuse out and thats it you wont spend 1000$$ at the dealer like some people did

  • @suspectedcrab
    @suspectedcrab 9 місяців тому

    Pulling the fuse while the car is on and the steering wheel shaft is depressed works. Or at least, if you're able to start your car after, that's how you know it worked. It's better than drilling a hole in this module, a module which seems completely pointless because you still need to have your keys to start the car. If someone wants to tow your car away to steal it, nothing will stop that from happening.

    Only downside of doing this will show up when you loose your keys or try to have a spare key programmed in. A dealer or locksmith won’t be able to get the car to program new keys because the solenoid is now stuck in one position. It has to be able to move back n forth for Key programming functions to work. Sounds stupid but trust me, just how it works...

      yep. I am a locksmith and had this same car with this same problem. I fixed it the same way as in this video before i was locksmith and now I am unable to use the autel and autopropad to "unlock steering column" required to program a key to the car

      Funny, I did this fix on my 09 Altima and lost my key. Called the locksmith and he programmed a brand new fob for me in less than a minute and it works just fine.

    • @jaredhays2947
      @jaredhays2947 Рік тому

      Was your car unlocked or in the alarm “unarmed” position, meaning you hadn’t pressed the lock button on your fob before you misplaced the fob? That would be only way I could see the car allowing key programming with this done to the steering lock release mechanism.

    • @saintlike1197
      @saintlike1197 Рік тому

      My car was definitely locked when this happened. The locksmith used an inflatable bag to open the door and then programmed a new fob in less than a minute. The only downside was he did not cut the actual key (it’s still just a blank)but the fob works fine.

  • @johnsmith4120-p5k

    Richard, just curious when you tried the fuse trick......did you push the lock in and crank the car before you pulled the fuse....I know you said you put it in accessory....but I didn't know if that meant you got it started first. .....only reason I ask is because the same thing happened to me and I did end up doing the fuse and it worked for me.

    The new improved version is 77$. Never let your dealership replaced the Electronic Steering lock with the exact hunk of junk you will be back in 4 or 5 years replacing it again. The new improved part instead of 800$ is 77$.

      Nope, called Nissan, opened a case, they transferred me to the dealer who said Nissan might cover this for free, need the VIN. got that to them and he was like ...uhh no, sorry your car isnt covered. But we have appointments available, $375 for the unit, then reprogramming fee? Called Autozone, they wanted $699 for the unit. Dealerships are (not to sound cliche) all about profit. You cant get free coffee without giving them something. The coffee is always stale or disgusting because the boss needs decaf and they dont care about cleaning where the filter goes. Does anyone know of a dealership that has good coffee?

      Not all cars with this module fall under the recall. I have an altima while it has this piece of crap did not fall under the recall. So I paid to have the ESCL replaced with the new and improved part. The dealership initially tried to sell me the 800$ part but after a bit of research on my part told them to replace it with the new and improved part.
