Nothing finer than the sound of an old diesel!! Luv to listen and watch em work!! This fellow is AWESOME!! He knows his stuff with driving and fixing them!! With all the heavy equipment I know you burn some serious quantities of diesel!! Great vids....keep em coming!!!👍👍👍
with a steel ball between them and some seriously heavy steel chains, nothing stopped them except to change direction or if a tree fell the wrong way and they must have been selling the trees I would imagine so did not want them damaged too much. It is weird but even at such a young age I had these kinds of thoughts tricking through my mind, but the power of these two ‘bull-dozers’ was awe inspiring. Yet to start school, but for well over a year I watched with my chin resting on my hands
Thanks for the upload. This with pushing the pretty small trees reminds me of when I was a kid, to clear the mid-sized hardwoods and firs and pine, silver birch that sort of mix, they had what to me, 7 at the time, seemed to be unbelievably GIGANTIC at the time. We moved into the first row of 10 finished homes while they were clearing the forest on what was going to be the other side of our street with a large green area in between, and using two Bull Dozers as I called them
No to pony motor and no to solenoid. On the older G and H series cats, you use the dc lvr and start on 3 cyls, keep the glow plugs going after engine initially fires until all 6 cyls fire. Warm up and stabilize then start working. Total start time is generally 15 minutes before pulling back on her ears and lettin her buck
Couple of points--I prefer pony engine, especially in cold weather, helps pre warm intake air and coolant. Granted they can be aggravating little devils too. Second, talking about RPMs, remember the D-7, 8 &9 engines of that period were governed to 1100-1200 RPM high idle. They depended on that 8" stroke to get their torque.
and we got to know the men. Don’t know where they come from but they were not local, and half the crew moving and digging with these wonderful machines which ever since I have dreamt of driving. I was the eldest of a large family and after a whole lot of egging-on I got enough confidence to say hello and later that day I got a ride, not knowing for years that my mum was wetting herself for fear anything might happen, ha ha, I just remember how loud and bumpy the ride! Thanks for the upload .
Same here. The Good old D9G will push or pull anything a modern D9 will. I doubt many of these modern machines will last as long as the old D9G though!
Assuming that the 385hp is @ 1,225rpm (that's a number I see on a lot of 353 specs), working backward from the torque-horsepower formula gives you 1,650lb-ft of torque...but that's at 1,225rpm, where peak horsepower s=so peak torque may well be a bit higher. Not sure with big, slow speed engines like this.
it builds carbon at low combustion temperatures. E.G. running low loads at high rpm. In the next higher gear at lower rpm the exhaust temperature is higher, means less carbon buildup. And it saves a lot of fuel.
I reckon this feller owns these machines, so he probably figgers that he can run em anyway he wants to. A lot of loud mouths on these video comments, find fault with his operating but at half throttle and knowing what he's doing can work rings around most of these "skin er back and let the big cat roar" cowboys.
Nonickname Thank you!! Exactly!! Getting so sick of jealous keyboard operators! Don't know what it is about heavy equipment videos that attract the most ignorant individuals remarks!!
+AZ Outcast I have it as well on both DVD and on a VHS tape that was used to record it from a late night movie showing all the way back in the late 1980's. LOL
I remember when it came out as "Made for TV" in the 70s. I was about 7 years old I think and thought how "scary cool" it was. I grew up within a mile of a stone quarry and had an entire fleet of Tonka Toys which saw 100% outdoor use. I played with them realistically and had childhood aspirations of driving a Euclid dump truck at the quarry as a kid. LOL. Then I grew up. :-) I was obsessed with all things heavy equipment. Neat information about the goof up with the movie shoot and the cars in the background. I read about that last week on an Imb site about films.
D9G = classic machine.
Fantastic old dozer that can still push with the best of them

Like starting a locomotive!!
Brings back memories of 988 split window loader.
Sounds awesome!

Sounds Right

the D9G,one of my all time favorites i love it.
I used to love the sound and rattle of starting a 9G on a frosty morning, never had another engine that sounded quite like it.
Ever heard a cat 399 air started cold. Oh yeah!

Great video of old Cat D9G startup and working. Can anyone tell me please, how big in LITERs is the D9 engine?
i love the chuncks of rut that flew out of the stack when u started it

I'll bet rattlesnakes, just friggin love when, this dozer comes around. Nice toy.
it operates as slow as a caterpillar...................wait, it is a caterpillar :) Loved this video.
Runs really well when she gets going.
dam she's beeuteefull and the Ole boy operating it knows what he's doing to!

@powellvalley Full throttle isn't needed it uses to much fuel. When the dozer is being operated at a slower pace you have more control.

Quite right..so often with heavy plant nice and steady wins the day..
yea but it takes him forever , let it rip and get something done already , too damn slow
I love that dozer it sounds sweet
nothing like seeing an old cat dozer still working
@DieselPowerTV I didn't know they had glow plugs on big engines like that. Well that's good.
New engineers need to apply this simplicity
This is the 50th Anniversary of the D9G since it was introduced in 1961.
@SuperJohndeere4020 No, this dozer has glow plugs.

I'm thinking it need a bendix on the starter, and a longer exhaust pipe.
or a starter bendix! once it starts it looks like it runs good
Excellent tractors happy days many moons ago
Was ether used on this one?
What year is that Cat?
What year is this D9G?
what torque and what cmc ?! ty
torque numbers?
@mrBelfegorr 385Hp
Are you going that slow on purpose or is that just how the old machines operate?
who knows what his problem is
all the machines that appear in your video are your property? D9G years and this was made??
Hey trees how do you like me now?
i had 1000 of hours on the d9h nice heavy machine
amen let her roar and let the black smoke role
Home Sweet Home!!
Why can't I stop watching your videos? Oh right, because of my username ;)
Damn... That wore out hunk of junk is in serious need of new spark plugs so it'll at least start easier.........
no spark plugs in a diesel , dummy
give it some juice , man
I think I'd be for contacting cat parts for grille plating. Radiator for that machine is damned spendy!
judiou do arranque, fez pegar na marcha lenta.
Looks like you are low on DEF.
maybe the particulate filter is getting plugged also
dream machine :/
Awsome
dam good operator
push dirt not brush or trees what a joke
killdozer!
Killdozer

pony engine would solve that problem
