Hard disagree on the Majorette's E-rank. Especially the "out of proportions" bit. Thing is that Majorettes are not necessarily 1:64 - they are in different scales, and the real scale is almost always written on the base. It's made so that all of the cars are more or less the same in volume (same thing with Matchbox btw), and I can see why you and other people find it unappealing, but that also isn't necessarily bad. Just like I don't find Hot Wheels bad for not being true 1:64 - 'cause it's their style.
I don't know how it is in Asia, but in Europe Majorettes are the best value for their price. Especially Majorette Deluxe: in Ukraine (which is where I'm from) for $4,81-$8,57 you get a model with rubber tires, opening features (oftentimes multiple, like hood AND doors), suspension and a box (which, I can agree, isn't well-designed at all - I love their collectible cards from the Premium line much more). Some of the newer ones even have metal bases! So for me scale isn't an issue, not only since I collect different scales, but also 'cause when it comes to HW Premium - their retail prices here are $13,41; Mini GTs are in average $16,13.
The thing I can agree on though is that Majorettes don't have many interesting castings. Or rather many interesting paintjobs - these are oftentimes really boring even when the model itself is good and unique to Majorette. So, just like Matchboxes, Majorettes are fun to collect only in addition to something else (like Tomicas or sometimes Sikus). I'd personally give Majorettes a C or a B but definitely not E.

    • @marcross52-95

I'd probably get mostly Matchbox and Majorette if
Matchbox did more realistic tampos and livery & Majorette would do more of the same and have better castings of modern cars. Their vintage castings are cooler though.
I only have 3 Matchboxes, and 4 Premium Majorettes....200+ HW mainline, but most of them I bought due to the better aesthetic execution which mask most of the imperfections. Most of the colors they use now just look wild and tacky, but yeah it's mostly for kids.
Basic Matchbox in the Philippines is $3, Majorette Premium is $5, Deluxe is $8 , haven't found a Deluxe car that feels "Deluxe" to me yet, so I end up getting the Premiums instead.

Just wish Mattel would give the orange brand more love and money to expend their product line and quality. There is so much potential left on the table for Matchbox and it is very unfortunate. Unpopular opinion but coming from a collector who is just a little newer as I only collect diecast cars from time to time. I generally prefer Tomica compared to all the ones in S tier.
This is not to say that they are bad even I don't own them, far from it in fact but they just don't really appeal to me because the car selection isn't great (although understandable since they are newer) and I prefer my cars to be plain than just logos plastered over most of the time.
So in this aspect, Tomica wins for me although don't take my words as gospel.

I agree that Hot Wheels has gotten a bit lazy. Especially with the F&F line where they re-release identical versions of former releases. However I’d say their detailing has gotten significantly better over the years, even for their mainlines. Remember the first Car Culture sets where only one out of the five cars would get proper details? I’m so glad they don’t do that anymore. Pretty much all their premium cars get premium-level detailing, and I also think they’ve gotten better when it comes to proportions, wheels and printing-techniques.
As for Johnny Lightning, I’d say they’re a tough brand to rank because their quality has changed a lot over time. In the 90’s and early 00’s, Johnny Lightning was in their prime. They basically set the standard for Greenlight, and all those other similar lines. Their classic muscle cars from the Playing Mantis era were honestly some of the most beautiful die-cast cars I’ve ever seen. But after they were sold off to TOMY, they lost their edge, and the brand faded into irrelevance.

There are way too many diecast items to collect & money is always a scarce commodity.
So, you will need to concentrate on a certain genre & focus on collecting items which will have big potential & appreciating future value.
The easiest to collect are Hot Wheels ie. mainline or basic. They are the cheapest, very easy to customise & can be traded like US$ (ie. acceptable all over the world).
Next up are the Hot Wheels Premium lines eg. Car Culture, Boulevard series, etc. Although one has to be very selective in picking up the ones which have desirability & leave aside the peg warmers. And Mattel are prone to recycling their diecast models every now & then.
After Hot Wheels, Tomica are desirable in both basic & premium. They do a lot of JDMs especially Kei Cars & Japanese only models eg. Leopard, Century, Crown, Majesta, etc. Tomica are very popular in the Asian markets.
The next step up will be a big one for collectors. Their prices are double or triple over Hot Wheels Premiums & Tomica Premiums. These brands are Mini GT, Inno 64, Tarmac Works, Time Micro & Poprace.
There are also many other upcoming brands. Most come from the same factories in China.
They are releasing multiple models every few months on pre-order basis but things often get delayed. Pre-orders have a nasty habit of creating insatiable demand such that people pre-order, pay a deposit, then find themselves making excess orders & not able to pay up in full when the models come in. And they often come in at the same time.
To be a successful collector, one needs to be discerning & be a very particular collector. Collectable genres are JDM, Supercars, Race & rally heroes, Entertainment lines like Batman, Fast & Furious, Forza, etc. Special lines like Tooned series, certain Fantasy models & iconic stuff like Beatle's Yellow submarine, Star Trex USS Enterprise & Star Wars spacecraft.
That's why I say there's just too many things to collect but money isn't enough!

I agree with pretty much all the ratings you have given all these brands. One exception is Majorette, which I consider equivalent to the Tomica mainline. They do not claim to be 1:64 scale as on the base, just like Tomica, they actually put the scale on the base. And just like Tomica, they are toys before anything hence their chunkyness, to reduce the parts that could break off and being able to be addressed to young children. I would have ranked MBX higher but that's just because l love seeing mainstream cars that just don't get cast as often. M2 doesn't interact all that much on IG for example, but they do put out challenges and do feature diecast photography from their collector base. And Maisto 1:64 are actually pretty popular here, with several lines from cheap fresh metal to Maisto Design premiums, good bang for the buck IMO. Great overall assessment, there are a couple brands I've yet to get a specimen of in my collection & I definitely will take your rating into account on my future purchases. My criteria for cars that I collect is very similar to yours as outlined in this ranking. I value established brands, price point of $30 or less, licensed cars and liveries, variety, a reasonable attempt at proper scale accuracy, and graphics detail. Given those factors, for the brands I collect my ranking would be similar to yours.
    1. Tarmac Works is excellent when it comes to detail, price, variety, licensed, scale, and a well established brand.
    2. Mini-GT to me is a close second place to Tarmac Works but they do not have a value or premium lines such as Global 64, Hobby 64 for example.
    3. Auto World has great bang for your buck wide selection of US cars and trucks
    4. Hot Wheels has a very nice variety of choices for collectors of all ages.
    5. Kaido House they make amazing cars but just are a little bit oversized for their price.

Mini gt. Pop race for your Japanese And American muscle cars. Autoworld and Greenlight. Autoworld is slightly better than greenlight but greenlight is good.

    S Inno64 and Kaido House
    A MiniGT

    D Hot Wheels
The rest is irrelevant (at least for me)

Am like you bro. Started with HW 3 years ago. Now it's getting bored and too many release and repeat. Unless you reseller or make some extra money, it's good collection. Price for culture and premium same price or higher than Mini GT here in Malaysia, but MGT details are awesome.

Bro i feel like my mind has been put out accurately in this video. I started collecting around last year and started with mainline hotwheels and some tomicas. I also bought 1 inno64 that time which i had no knowledge about. Apparently the Civic ferio SI is 4 times worth its price now 😂
Anyway after that i was introduced to mini gt and tarmac and i have never looked back at tomica, matchbox and majorette ever since. I still get some mainline and premium hotwheels occasionally if its a decent casting and a favourite of mine. Currently i prefer inno and tarmac and mini GT in third place. Its crazy how some premium hotwheels are beyond the price of inno event car. That was the main reason that made me stop collecting hotwheels.

🔥🤘🏻💀🤘🏻🔥. It’s an older model now that came out almost 2 years ago but I think one of the best models Inno64 released was the Honda city Turbo 2. I have the blue and white version. Whats so unique and rare about this casting is that your getting opening parts when it comes to to the hood, trunk, inside details, metal base and it rolls so smoothly and these Inno64 Honda city Turbos include a Motocompo. I think I paid $21 USD before tax per model.

I agree with everything but hot wheels has so much variation it's crazy. Has something for everyone. A class for sure. But you need to understand are you collecting replicas or representations of real cars? Hot wheels are a great representation of really cars, not actually replicas.

How much are they, have to add the shipping to Germany too, think that made it not very iinteressting for me to buy one. And RLC are, like Premium and Mainline, not true 1/64.

    • @JonathanToole
      @JonathanToole Рік тому

@@marcbaur677 They never claimed to be true 1/64. That was never what Hot Wheels was going for. Nobody has that perfect mix of high quality, opening parts, and spectraflame paint/ chromed metal that Hot Wheels has. The shipping is a pain, but to be fair on Hot Wheels part, it isn't their fault that shipping cost so much.
