Its real life twister lol
except not paid for by dodge.
Even without a flying cow, better overall.
no fire tornado :(
It's funny how the Twister script actually became real-life science.
He used to be part of the "Storm chasers" franchise on discovery. He was always competing with TIV
Congratulations Reed. Never stop chasing
Thank you Amy!
Hey reed how long have you been chasing storms by now? @@ReedTimmerWx
@@ReedTimmerWx Quick question if you dont mind answering, could this measure more accurately windspeeds of tornadoes we thought where week but in fact where stronger? For example, Rolling Fork?
Why not have a small camera in it?? I wouldn't have it in the front but on the lightest side to balance the weight. And in hopes of getting some nice high altitude shots
@@michaelwachendorf2096 Why would it matter though, its for reading data and not for pretty photos, also even if it did the debris and the winds would most surely ruin the glass or view
My cousin and I were almost in that tornado. I remember the sky going black and being scared out of my wits.
However, this is an exciting new development, and I look forward to finding out what we're able to learn in the future about tornadoes.
This was a very powerful and large tornado - it was often obscured by rain as well!
Damn, Tim, Carl and Paul are all smiling down at you saying “good job”.
Congrats!
@@ReedTimmerWxi remember I was in the shelter for over a hour because I live outside of Lawrence and that was probably the scariest moments of my life seeing the helicopter footage ❤❤❤
I have been a few and you never get used to that adrinolin rush, 🙂
@@ReedTimmerWxhope we'll see some of your footage in the new Twisters 2 movie
This just shows how far technology has come,
and how dedication drives crazy successful experiments
He has always had a driving energy/enthusiasm, this is awesome stuff!
Congratulations, Reed! That's a lifetime of your work, in one project.
That is for sure! Thank you John Abbott! Never stop chasing
These rockets will fundamentally change our understanding of these storms entirely. !
Thank you Maci! We just need some more launches!

I live by your motto to Never Stop Chasing. I'm currently in college working on my meteorology degree (I'm Dominating my grades btw,) because I watched you growing up starting age 5 from the beginning Reed. You are my literal idol & that one person I look up to. Remember that when you see me face to face someday in the field somewhere in Texas. I don't care whether it's just a handshake or a quick hello. Just as least meeting you in person someday. Your response alone on here had me stunned because out of all the comments you chose to answer mine. Today I intercepted hail in San Antonio TX, & returned home to find this comment waiting. I won't be forgetting this. I won't forget you either. Always watching, & always will support you.

Every decade there is a never before recorded data metric that amounts to, clout. Having lived in Kansas my whole life this stuff is pretty much always on topic. Really nothing new other than people seeking esteem for a new way of doing something already done.
@@geronimo5537 TWISTEX was the last team to successfully have done deployments in tornadoes up until El Reno when we lost them. No, it is not common for these kinds of measurements to be taken. I'm sure mentioning their name probably strikes a nerve with Reed. He knew them as friends.
I'm an aerospace engineer specializing in rocketry who minored in meteorology and also chases, and I find this insanely interesting and impressive. Really good data collection and analysis, especially well visualized. This is a rather simple design (that's a compliment coming from an engineer) and was very well executed, obviously requiring great skill from the user (reed in this case). The dominator series of vehicles, especially their equipment, have produced the best advancement of in-the-field measurements since DOWs and I'm sure as the suite of equipment can gather higher resolution data, tornados can become even more well understood. Awesome video and paper!
The fact that institutions like The Weather Channel and NOAA, which have huge amounts of funding, haven't even once thought or tried to do anything like this.
Good job, Reed and team!
Edit: apparently weather institutes did in the 70s, but I've not heard of them continuing. Of course, the people in this comment section that felt the need to correct me have been real jerks in their wording and attitude, so please be cautionary when looking at the other comments in my post.
They are often too busy gatekeeping self funded research
They don't like being laughed at in a dominator!
sometimes when an institution gets so entrenched in its legacy, it ends up having to justify the cost of every bit of research. interesting but risky sounding proposals get rejected in case it doesn't bear fruit for the cost sunk from shareholders or tax payers, and they might not see potential boons from stuff like this
In 1960 the U.S. Weather Bureau published its rockets-into-tornadoes findings. It continued sending rockets into tornadoes into the 1970s. Next time do a quick web check before making big claims.

This may be some of the most important data ever recovered for tornadic data. Am I wrong here? This is awesome!
Thank you Reed.from Texas/Louisiana
NEVER STOP CHASING
Incredible the amount of data you are collecting. Reed should get a lot more funding to expand this collection capability.
I'm so excited to see where this goes with the scientific community, thank you guys for everything you do!!
Yes! Congratulations! 🚀🌪️
Congratulations Reed. A great milestone in meteorology and in your career.
But they dont have Dorothy......
Your not in Kansas anymore 😂 jk
Dr. Timmer, excellent video-again. Persistence is rewarded. We thank you!
This is really a big deal, congrats Reed.
Thank you Jimmy!
This is am absolutely amazing achievement Reed. I'm so happy for you guys. That data is gonna be so useful in the future, especially if you guys can continue that research and build on the data set.
Congrats @Reed Timmer and team.
Reed Timmer. You are absolutely NUTS!
You are also absolutely one of my few HEROES! I’m 67, so there’s been many opportunities for me to say that, but very few who have made the cut. I love what you do, thank you.
So excited about this and future research coming out!!

Great work Reed , stay safe.
I’ve been watching this channel since I saw the Storm Chasers show on Discovery Channel as a kid. You have amazed me at every turn with the danger you put yourself in, as well as the contributions you have given to understanding tornadoes!
You’ve definitely earned another subscriber!
This is really huge and exciting, Reed. Thank you, and your team, for all the hard work that you've done for us.
Never stop chasing!
Keep up the important work Dr. Timmer! You’re a true legend buddy!
Almost reminds me of twister
Yes we are doing the real thing out there
This is super cool. I'm going to send this to my aviation weather professor. He would love this. The guy is a meteorologist for his day job and a pilot as a hobby, but teaches at my university part time.
Reed is man the myth the legend
Never stop chasing. It’s our only choice!
I've been watching Reed since his beginning and he never disappoints
This is so cool! 👏
Reed... You, sir are a pioneer! Congrats and best of luck for future intercepts!
Good to see this use of sensor technology combined with miniaturized delivery vehicles to obtain an understanding of "where no one has gone before!" Except for maybe Dorothy? Great work Reed- thanks for your "secret sauce" of passion and determination!
What an accomplishment Timmer👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

My inspiration to get into weather and wanting to study it. So happy to see the research published for all to see.
Let's go!👍
Congrats! I think Tim Samaras must be smiling and so proud of you!
The setup of the Rocket Launch and Dominator 3 looks amazing. It's like we can have a video game design made based on Dominator 3.
Thank you for everything you do.
Don't use Kilometers on American Soil! Thats insulting to our nation!
AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Actually America was born on the metric system. The proof is out there
Great work guys! This is incredible! 👏👏👏
Congratulations and THANK you !!!!❤🙏
This is incredible. Huge congratulations 🎊 🎊.
I have been following you ever since I was a child, to see this kind of groundbreaking data finally hit UA-cam as you further this concept, is truly amazing. Great work, Reed.
You guys basically did a Dorothy and it's so epic! Awesome work, guys!!
This is absolutely amazing data Reed, you should be so proud of this scientific accomplishment, it's truly outstanding. Congratulations to everyone that was involved with this project.
About ten years ago I remember reading about Stirling Colgate’s rocket experiments with waterspouts in the 80s and wondering why nobody had tried the concept again with all of our advances in technology- and now you guys have and you succeeded!
Holy smokes I remember watching you guys on the Discovery channel years ago, I'm so happy to see the dominator still in action! I thought you went to AccuWeather and the chasing was done. So glad this poped up on my feed what an achievement, you are going to get so much good data!
No I was storm chasing for AccuWeather during that time! They actually supported our science and foot the bill for one of the ground probes in 2017
Congratulations Reed. And thank you for all of your efforts. Your work is a game changer and fundamentally, life saving!
That is amazing! Well done Reed and your team
Congrats Reed!!! Ive been watching you for over 10 years now, you've worked hard for this one!!! Never stop chasing!
🎉Congratulations reed! Honestly amazing achievement🎉🎉🎉
Reed Timmer, you have truly made your mark on this planet, and the world is a better place because of you.
WOO HOO!!!
Congratulations!!!
This is a game changer in learning about tornadoes.
Reed is the only storm chaser on youtube who does actual science without clickbait.
Congrats Reed that's thinking out of the box!
Thank you DS!
Gotta say, thats one hell of a novel solution to getting a probe into a storm. Really has that awesome mad scientist energy.
On a side note, I am a computer Hardware engineer, and I have to applaud your choices surrounding onboard technology and implementation. Cheap(ish) to make, but, more importantly for research, easy to prototype on off the shelf development boards, build a small quantity of, and then launch. This design minimizes your need for respins, minimizes the risks associated with assembly, and looks to be based in proven designs and technology. Overall a great project and a well implemented solution.
ETA: I'd love to see an in depth technical video about how everything in your system works and how it was all designed.
Congrats on the publication! The thought of all the discoveries this kind of tech will bring is super exciting. 👍
Absolutely fascinating. Thank you, Dr. Timmer!
Congrats brother. Never stop chasing and keep on dominating!!
Congratulations Reed! I've always been a big fan of your work, you just have a passion about it that is inspiring. Keep chasing!
Thanks for keeping on! Big congrats…you did it!! Never Stop Chasing!!
Wow seeing how fast a tornado can spin truly revolutionary
Rockets… tornadoes… custom cars… this is like everything I love
Congratulations Dr. Timmer, it will be interesting to see the next stage of development in this process and the data it produces.
I hope the data is useful. you and your team are hard workers.
Well done Reed. It's always very fascinating watching you work.
Oh wow, Reed - that is truly awesome! It's like a version of the dropsonde in a hurricane. Impressive stuff!
That’s not only intense but just awesome…the science, the info/data and logic behind it. Congrats Reed, that’s something to be proud of!
Fantastic! About time, i lived in Missouri for 12 years, sister still resides in the "bootheel", seen plenty of tornadoes, and have been hoping for the chasers to finally have success in mapping the vortex, temps, and true wind speeds, so that we may make scientific breakthroughs to better, understand, predict, and warn people with. Thank you. Keep it up, keep pushing forward, we are behind you supporting.
Cool video Reed can't wait to see you back in the Dom 3 chasing EF 4s and 5s this spring and summer i enjoyed the video

Congratulations Reed, hoping the discoveries you make will advance meteorology and benefit all of us.
This is truly Holy work and it is incredibly inspirational to me. Thank you
It's like Twister all over again! Nice work!
I remember that day you launced that. Nice job Reed. Never stop chasing !!! Stay safe. Gonna be a wild ride this year I think. You going to launch another one this yr?
Amazing job using the rocket to get your instruments into the tornado. Keep on chasing and learning for all of us!
Congratulations Reed! Great research sir 🎉🎉🎉 WOW!
Major props to you, Mr. Timmer. You and your team are likely the best of the best.
Hats off to your team Reed. You risk and sacrifice so much for everyone else. Your videos are absolutely intense and at the same time inspiring as well as educational. Looking forward for this season. Keep your wheels down and keep chasing your dreams and Tornados
Congratulations Reed. Never Stop Chasing!
Thank you Mz Vicky!
This is incredible. Awesome data output from that probe.
This is a really great feat of science and engineering! Pretty amazing how they used both GPS and their pressure sensor onboard the probe to accurately determine altitude and pressure deficit due to high air velocity. I highly recommend to at least skim through the research paper as it's really interesting.
Wow! Congratulations! Your work is being seen. 🎉🎉🎉
Serious question here, what do you guys do for a living? I'm currently in college majoring in Mechanical Engineering Technology, but I've always been fascinated by storms and the like. It would be amazing to be involved in something like this someday, but I'm struggling to find any "tornado rocketry" jobs in my area lol. This is just incredible.
