The card stock quality of Lo Scarabeo decks has deteriorated rapidly over the last couple of years. In the past I have always defended the card stock used in their 'standard' decks because it was thin but definitely sturdy, “snappy”, and easy to shuffle, but the one used for this deck (and in others I've bought recently) is objectively horrible - it bends and deforms very easily, as if it had no core. I hope that Lo Scarabeo will soon realise that economising on these aspects is counterproductive and that they can quickly return to the old quality, otherwise I am convinced they will lose many loyal customers.
It’s disappointing that these companies are cutting back on quality while continuously raising prices. It’s no wonder there is such a rise of people purchasing counterfeit decks.
Besides the disappointing cardstock (I hope Lo Scarabeo is listening!), I'm a bit dismayed that all the faces are so young--I think the High Priestess, Hierophant, and Justice might have a little wisdom that comes with age, for example. But that's often the case with decks, isn't it, and the artwork is gorgeous, the colors really vibrant. Thanks for giving us a preview of this deck!
I agree with you about the faces. We meet a lot of people in life; some young, some middle aged, and some elders, in all kinds of different roles. It would be good if the faces had reflected those better, giving them more contrast and character.
I have this deck - it's stunning, and I love these cards. I agree, card stock is a bit thin, but the bright vivid colours and imagery make up for it, I think. Thank you for sharing, Simon ❤
This is his finest work so far as far as I'm concerned; there's so much detail and depth. This is easily one of my top RWS decks. You can tell he really took great pains to be as exacting as possible. I love the surreal quality of his art, it's so well done that it enhances rather than detracts from the cards meanings.
Beautiful artwork and a great take on the RWS, but I think I'll stick with his Mystical Tarot, which I love. Pity about the card stock. I saw a written review the other day complaining about the same thing. Great review as always, Simon! Thanks for the preview.

I was adding deckstiny's panoramic deck extras onto those when you were flipping through them 😂 the thing is with Lo Scarabeo decks. it doesn't matter how long I've had them, the art never wears off, unlike some more expensive decks. ❤ I thought it was beautiful 😍

Unfortunately, this time the paper is even thinner than usual and, above all, without any rigidity - it is this 'deformability' that definitely makes the difference, for the worse.
I love the art, I could do without a red title bar though. The paper stock is a shame. I'd rather have them leave the little booklet out and refer to a pdf file on their website if this meant the card stock could be thicker.

It’s surprising to me though, there’s some very fine quality card stock available in Italy, Lo Scarabeo listen to your customers! You can do better than that. I have these and love the thinness for shuffling. They seem to be pretty durable for how thin they are. I’d buy four decks if I needed to. 😂 They’re my current favorite.
I was looking up this video because I wanted buy the Tarot of Traditions but see how thin they are has really put me off its shame as cards are so stunning. I have there white cats of tarot and I love them but might hold off see if they improve the cards
Great video Simon. The artwork is stunning! The card backs are beautiful... i really want this! But the card stock... I don't know. I don't mind thin card stock as long as it shuffles well and doesn't bend or warp. And i totally agree... would love to know more about the artist's intention
I don't think I will be adding the Tarot of Traditions deck to my collection, however I did like the art work. I tend to like the more out-of-the-way artwork on new decks I acquire. Beautiful artwork, however!
Is the card stock thin as the great outdoors tarot? I am easy person but that card stock disappointed me. I was going to use that deck to bring hiking and backpacking.
Could anyone suggest an Oracle deck which will pair well with the Tarot of Traditions? Similar art feel would be good, with message/ explanation on the cards.

I'm in love with the art work, but I am very disappointed with the card stock. I'm gentle with my decks but it may be a deal breaker for me even though I love the art. There are so many decks to choose from and I take all the things I'm looking for into consideration. When money is tight, I want to put it toward the best (get quality rather than quantity).
Hi Simon, Tarot of Traditions is coming out in Jan. 2024 in the US. I have The Pre-Raphaelite Tarot deck and love the art and the colors so rich saturated. I have also have been looking forward to this deck, why change to thinner card stock , that's a let down. It is beautiful, you will have to keep us up to date on if the card stock effects the wear of the deck , etc. I really think they miss the mark by not addressing the art, symbolism plays a big part of tarot and would add a enrichment to the readings ! I have small hands and I find that both the narrowness of the cards and the "thin" card stock make it so much easier for me to shuffle. To each his own, I suppose, but I'm very grateful for this deck just as it is.👍☺

Shame about cardstock and book. It needs to have a luxury edition with better cardstock, a two-piece box and a proper guidebook.... 🤔🙏 Will still be getting it though ... 😃

Lucky duck! I pre-ordered this hoping for it before Thanksgiving, but Amazon moved ship date back to January, so I cancelled. I may reorder later. I have all his other decks. His work is always gorgeous! I probably won't mind the stock. I might have to get used to the red labels and would've preferred something darker or less vibrant. I'm a little disappointed that he gave no credit to Pixie for her exacting poses which he copied to the letter. But I was surpised that he added his own atmospheric elements that are his signature - little details and faces in the clouds. Before you started I debated, should I order from the UK rather than wait til January. Now, I feel satiated. I thnk I can wait. Thanks for sharing a deck I've been so anxious about since May!
I'm not as much concerned with the thinness of the cards as I am the glossiness and stickiness of them. (I started on the University Books deck and also have the Illuminated Tarot, both of which are super, super thin.) They do appear to be somewhat glossy, but can you tell me if they are sickeningly glossy and if they are sticky? I detest cards like the "original RWS". and a couple of the cat decks were the gloss is so terrible, that the cards stick together, making them hard to shuffle, or even separate. I love the images of this deck, but those two things are deal breakers for me.

Onesness Emporium is my go-to now as well (after first discovering them through your channel!). The prices are fair, the service excellent and I’d much rather send my money to a decent business than some of these large, heartless corporations! I’m buying that sticker book from OE on payday (if there are any left!).
Was interested in this deck. As soon as I saw the flimsiness I took it out of my cart. It seams they are getting worse and the price is toning up. It’s an hard pass from me. Sad

Oh how beautiful and oh how sad at the card stock and no book - a massive missed opportunity. Oooh and do look at the freebie cards from Oneness Emporium, it is a great quick way to see tarot unknown and I was dying for you to open the sticker book!
Does it have a black or white core? That makes all the difference. The LWB is a disgrace to the deck take a little time and explain the images, please.
Black or white core I would suggest that after you receive your copy to try a deck interview I find my intuition always spot on and I hope this helps you 🙃🦜🌱🔥🐬

While I like the art style, I don’t think the additions added much for me. I feel the original RWS has enough symbology anyway.
