Glad you had a chance to talk with Cooper and ideally will again for another three years. He's likely to go sub 1:45 while in HS. He has a devastating kick, which is critical for a top level 800 runner. Kind of fun seeing an 800 and 400 HS runners who are generational.
He is young, "relatively inexperienced" and makes a lot of mistakes on the track, BUT, he has a massive motor, a beautiful stride and the eye of the tiger. I hope and pray for two things for this kid, 1) that he stays healthy, body and mind, and 2) that he doesn't turn into the next Clayton Murphy, diddling around at the back for 500m and then trying to out-kick equally fast racers. Hoppel starts racing more aggressively (on or near the front) and is having his best year ever. The Dave Wottles of the world are few and far between, and that strategy is from a by-gone era.

Did we just see a negative split. The leader came through lap 1 in about 0:56 and they ended up at 1:50. That's amazing.
