When Canelo wanted a shot at Floyd he didn't whine and complain while refusing to do anything about it like David. Canelo went and unified with the other top champ in the division Trout and brought the WBA, WBC, and Ring belts to the table, even cut weight and agreed to Floyd's CW. On the other hand, Benavidez ducked champs, blew weight and dropped his belt, and won't even do the minimum of activating mandatory. He's just a clout chaser who's next fighting a guy coming out of retirement.
Also side note: Floyd didn't even fight mandatories. Matter of fact Canelo fought Lara who was supposed to be Floyd's mandatory but Floyd never wanted that work. And Floyd also never fought taller and lankier fighters period. Floyd even as he moved up strictly fought guys his height and almost always maintained the reach advantage unlike Canelo who fought champs at 168-175 giving up as much as 7 inches height including the guys David ducked out on.

You said he’s at the end of his career at 33 years old but he fought Floyd at 36 , Kovalev at 36, Mosley at 40, Cotto at 34 and GGG at 35. Doesn’t that mean they were at the end of their careers too? He fought a prime Bivol and got absolutely smoked. The only clear win against GGG was when he was 40. What risks has Canelo taken? The Bivol fight was a win-win for him. He had nothing to lose but everything to gain, that’s why Bivol wanted to challenge him at 68 he declined because his belts would be on the line and he would lose. Then when he got smoke by Bivol he simply went back to 68 and said “This is not my weight class I was chasing greatness” but he never was. The real risk was and always will be Benavidez that’s why he’s NOT taking it. He has something to lose in that fight. He won’t be able to make excuses after he loses.

His last 4 fights were stay busy fights. Canelo hasn’t given the fans a fight we wanna see since the 2nd fight with GGG and that was close/controversial. Nobody asked for or wanted to see Munguía, Charlo, Ryder, or GGG 3 at 40 years old. We didn’t even ask for the Bivol fight. Canelo gets treated like this great/legendary fighter but Imo it’s unwarranted. He hasn’t really beaten anyone, especially not in their prime. He moved up and cherry picked a washed up, 36 year old Alcoholic kovalev and his fans lost their mind. They thought he was invincible. But he went back down for a reason. There were 2 real monsters up there and we see what happened when he fought one of them (In their prime). At 68’ he beat Plant, Billy Ho, and Callum Smith. The WBC threw in the WBC belt soon as David lost it on the scales, he didn’t even fight for that. They fast tracked him. Caleb Plant who is ok and 2 UK bums and that’s it. But David who has also beaten Plant, KOed unbeaten Andrade, and was Already the WBC champ isn’t legendary and is undeserving of a fight? I don’t understand. They are basically even at 68’. Everyone at 168. It’s not his fault the 168 division lacks big names. The fact of the matter is that he’s considered the best at 168 but Canelo is holding those belts hostage. The only reason Canelo went up to 168 is because Benavidez had just lost the belt on the scales during covid. Benavidez has done more than enough to earn his belt back.

If you were a true fan of the sport you would see it. I’ve always liked Canelo, but he opened my eyes when he paid step aside money to GGG to defend the 160 WBC belt against Amir Khan. After his KO victory, he turned around and vacated and took on Liam Smith and the likes of Chavez Jr. A clear two year postponement of his fight against GGG and aging GGG to the ripe age of 36. Now he’s doing that with Benavidez, except that he can’t age him out but he can put the fight off until Benavidez can no longer make the 168 weight limit. I always called it. I don’t care how you look at it but if he doesn’t fight Benavidez in 2024 it’s a duck. Sorry but the truth hurts.

Aside from Direll, that’s the only top contender and undefeated he’s faced at SMW. Keep in mind that he’s been pro since 2016. It doesn't work that way when you hold the all the belts and you want people to consider you the Undisputed Champion. Benavidez and Morrell have been holding belts at 168 for over 3 years because the sanctioning bodies don't want to strip Canelo and lose the money they get from his fights. If Canelo doesn't want to be Champion and fulfill the duties of a Champion then he should have dropped the belts. That way the expectations are lowered for him. And you, presumably as a a fan of boxing, should hold Champions and the powers that be to a higher standard.
